What is it about hospitals that awaken our darkest fears? Is it our own mortality that frightens us or something else, something….atavistic? When a doctor at a Tennessee hospital begins to hear his patients whisper about monsters roaming the halls under the hospital, he at first dismisses them. But as more and more strange events occur, he begins to fear for his sanity and for his very life.
Super dark and creepy. Not the book to take with you to the doctor’s office!
A truly creepy tale that will make you look differently at those old abandoned asylums and hospitals, "Darker Shadows" keeps your attention and draws you to a dramatic finish. This mental health institution owes more to "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" than to the modern treatment facilities that look after the impaired today.
A young doctor takes on a job at this facility as his first job out of college, anxious to provide for his fiancee and the baby that will be arriving soon. It pays substantially more than comparable institutions...and there's a reason.
I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. It is very Stephen King-esque, especially his early work. It's a good old fashioned horror romp and kept me wanting to read it all the way through.
You follow the journey of Dr Benjamin Kent as he embarks on a new career at the Home. You quickly become involved in his experience of the Home and I found it to be deliciously dark and creepy in places.
Darker Shadows reminded me a little of Rosemary's baby and The Shining (as I believe has been mentioned previously). I would definitely recommend this book.
