Description

In the very near future, on the tiny island of Lanai, teens from very different worlds must find a way to survive when technology is destroyed.

Bea and Sam, Hawaiian kids isolated by a paranoid, alcoholic father, are thrown together with orphaned big-city pickpocket Nick when a disaster fries all technology. Aided by a mysterious `aumakua dragon that may or may not be Bea’s imaginary friend, the kids face fire, plane crashes, gangs, pit bulls, thieves, sharks, hunger, thirst and abuse in a coming-of-age that explores a post-technology world where only the strong and connected survive.

Advance Praise

“Deep, fast-paced, filled with action, suspense, and heart, this little book about small islands is huge on the inside!” B. Morrison, middle school teacher

“Island Fire is another fantastic page turner from Toby Neal. It sucked me in until the very end and I feel like I know each of the characters personally. I still have goosebumps thinking of everything. Definitely a must-read!” ~Sophia, age 17

“My only complaint is that once again I am sleep deprived because I cannot put down Toby's book. With Island Fire, I tried to go to sleep two nights ago, and I just kept thinking about what might happen and I finally had to read more. This is always the sign of a wonderful book, that the reader is so engrossed, so deeply enmeshed in the story and so invested that it is impossible to stop reading.” F. Pepoon

“Island Fire....unbelievable...I loved every moment of it. I was imagining seeing this in theaters and casting in my head!” G.Schneider

In the very near future, on the tiny island of Lanai, teens from very different worlds must find a way to survive when technology is destroyed. This is book one in a series and if the next is as good as this one then bring it on.

I received a free copy via Net-galley.I was first drawn by the amazing cover.(I voted yes to liking the cover on Net-Galley). I loved the characters and the storyline.I love the idea of guardian angel dragon. My only complaint is that some of the Hawaiian language used in the book is not always translated to English. Some you can get the mean others not so much. This is my first experience from the author. She mentions at the end she would write more books in future if asked.I loved your books as you can see by my rating.I hope many people either buy this book or request more books in the series.Highly recommend for all ages.

Really liked this book. Loved the characters of Bea, Sam, and Nick. Was to big on Jaden his ok but just warmed up to Nick more. And felt like those two had more chemistry as well as having more things in common. With Bea's mom dying and her dad being the way he is. And with Nick's both parents being dead. So they both know what their both going throw. I really felt bad for Sam and the way his father acts towards him in the book.
