This book was well written and the story definitely captured my attention. I have a special place in my heart for books set in Afghanistan. I don't know what it is, but I love them. Ali's story drew me in from the beginning. His emotions were very real and relatable, even though I could not literally relate to most of the things he went through. This book gave a real (mostly child friendly) look into life in Afghanistan, particularly during the time of Taliban interference. My one complaint is that there was not a lot of depth to many of the characters. Even Ali's children and wife, I knew very little about...I just never felt connected to them. Other than that, I enjoyed this book.
