Rock and a Heart Place, by Ken Mansfield and Marshall Terrill was received from the publisher in exchange for this review. The book was a lot different than I expected, in that my assumption was it was a biography of a rock and roll star. It was that, kind of, but also much more. The book breaks down, taken directly from the book: “Sex, drugs, rock and roll, decadent successes, devastating failures and righteous redemption.” This took place back when rockers knew how to party. The book includes modern and past rockers, including members of the following bands: The turtles; The Pointer Sisters; Korn; The Byrds; Kansas; Ozzy Osbourne; Quiet Riot; England Dan and John Ford Coley; Prince; Collective Soul; The Ronettes; Buffalo Springfield; Poco and Grand Funk Railroad. Some I had heard, some I had heard of, some I never knew existed. My favorite two were the modern rockers from Korn (Brian “Head” Welch) and Ozzy Osbourne/Quiet Riot (Rudy Sarzo), who is the only one on the list I have met. This is my second review this year about famous people, living a decadent lifestyle, who quit that lifestyle and gave their souls to Jesus Christ. While not being “uber” religious myself, I have to ponder if these books are due to the BhusseinO administrations pushing of the Middle Eastern faith, as if this country was founded on it. Have the people had enough? If you life books about past rockers and their falls from fame and attempts to get back on top, this may be just the book for you.
