Description
Evan Dahm's richly imaginative work of epic fantasy and culture clash is finally collected in a beautifully packaged four-volume trade edition!
The river Ata grants the nomadic Fluters all they need to survive. That is how it has been since the dawn of time. But every year, that becomes less and less, and their hardships grow. Vattu was the only child born that cycle, and late at that. With an empire encroaching, if the Fluters are to survive, they must change, and Vattu is that change. Soon, she is thrust into the new world of the imperial city, leaving behind all she has ever known.
But Vattu and the Fluters aren't the only ones suffering. A chance encounter with an intimidating band of silent warriors will spark a fire in Vattu, one that may engulf the entire realm.

This graphic novel is about a small nomadic tribe that encounters an imperialist empire, through the eyes of a young girl named Vattu.
Recommended for fans of fantasy featuring immersive worlds and original artwork.

In an alternate fantasy world, this book follows the struggles of an alien like people. Vattu is a girl from a nomadic tribe. Her tribe follow the path of the river and migrate with the beasts they hunt for sustenance. Lead by a priestess and a hunter their world is seemingly simple. But a group of aggressive armed creatures arrives, claiming they are on someone else's land and they must pledge fealty to the empire in the form of taxes. Their world is turned upside down and Vattu is thrust into a foreign world of cities and domestic servitude. This story is beautifully and simply drawn, the story is compelling and touches on deep issues like slavery and war.

This story follows a young girl born into a primitive tribe who dreams of becoming a hunter. When her tribe is confronted by soldiers from the Empire claiming they are trespassing, the priest is forced to offer her up—disguised as a boy hunter—to satisfy their demands.
On her journey to the Empire’s town, she meets a new friend who teaches her how to fight with a sword. Once they arrive, the two are separated, and she is made to serve a new master, doing chores around his home. Over time, she learns more about the world beyond her tribe, and eventually, she escapes and reunites with her friend.
The story ends on a cliffhanger, leaving you eager to know what will happen next. The art and character designs are beautifully unique, adding depth to the storytelling and emotion to each scene.
This was a really beautiful graphic novel. The art style was so unique and lovely. I found the storyline really interesting, and I am definitely intrigued to continue with the series and read the next book.

This is one of those graphic novels that brings nostalgia and emotion in such a beautiful way. I cried, and I was in awe, as well. I absolutely loved the illustrations, too. The color pallet was gorgeous, and the environments were spectacular.

I loved reading this comic online, and I have seen the earlier (I believe self-published) edition of this book. I am thrilled that it has finally gotten the attention it deserves from a publisher! Unlike the self-published edition, this has a couple more pages of art, an author's note, a blurb on the back and, most importantly, the maps in the back have legends in English. If you have read Vattu before, even if it was in the previous print run, this is definitely work taking a look at. If you haven't read Vattu before, what are you waiting for?
