Description

I am that gash in her soul.

Once I loved Grace, really loved her.

And she loved me, and it was so fucking beautiful.

Once.

That pendulum swings to and fro.

We're here,

and then we're--

No.

How can that rare beautiful be rendered irrelevant, intangible when I still feel so damn much?

Does all that energy, that glory, that significance simply dissolve?

Turn to smoke?

To nothing?

It can't. It just can't.

Are the moments that shape us absolutely random?

Is time not fluid?

I made promises to them, to her.

Especially to her.

Promises I still burn to keep.

Lock & Key was one of my favorite biker books of 2014. I love Cat Porter’s writing, I loved that the hero/heroine were a little older, and most of all I loved getting into Grace’s past story. The majority of Random & Rare IS that story. It’s the story of Dig and Grace. And it’s told from Dig’s pov.

Dig was one of my favorite characters in the first book. I adore Miller, don’t get me wrong. But Dig is something special. Seeing his relationship with Grace, the things leading up to it was great. What I really loved was how loyal he was. I know being a biker tests you when it comes to doing the right thing/fidelity, and Dig always seemed to pass the test. No matter what other women came his way, deep down he knew that Grace was special and that she was the only woman for him.

Dig’s part of the story was probably the first 65%. It was most definitely my favorite part. The last bit takes place in the present. It starts off where Lock & Key left off. With Miller and Grace.

Grace is going through a hard time. For personal reasons, I could completely sympathize to how she was feeling.

Grace should be the happiest woman alive. After losing everything that ever mattered to her many years ago, she finally is at a good place. She has a man. A man that means the world to her. After losing Dig, she never thought she would have that again. But Miller is all that and more. I don’t want to go into all their issues, but I really felt for Grace and what she was going through. I thought it was the most special thing that everything came full circle for them. And I feel like that was all Dig… This series is a real win if you’re looking for a great set of biker books. They have a perfect mix of steam, emotion, action, grit and suspense. They also have a lot of love and devotion. You will adore all these characters. And the writing is really top notch. Thought it was painful and emotional to read at times, the ending left a big smile on my face. This is a book and a series I would highly recommend.

*** 3.5 stars ***

I’m always a little hesitant to read books that are prequels to series or those told from the POV of another character of the same events. There is that concern that instead of adding more depth to the existing story it will simply rehash the same events over and over with nothing new to bring to the table, but that isn’t what happens with Random & Rare, it really does give a better understanding of the events that led Grace to where she is when we meet her in Lock & Key. There are a few moments that are rehashed, but they are the moments that are pivotal to Dig and Grace’s relationship and being able to know what motivated Dig to do what he did was important and gave me a better understanding of them as an H/h, but the majority of his part of the book is really giving a more indepth look into who he is and his unflinching devotion to the club and his brothers. This is what held my interest the most, I liked seeing his POV of his and Grace’s relationship, but in the end it was learning about him and the club that held my interest the most.
The last 30% or so is we get back to Grace and Lock and find them in a situation that I’d never wish upon anyone. They aren’t doing so well and fighting to hold on to not only their relationship, but themselves. I felt for both of them and honestly wanted to smack Grace upside the head even though I couldn’t blame her for her thoughts and actions. But what I really did end up enjoying, and getting a little teary over, was how things came full circle at the end. I thought it was well done and made karmic sense.

Overall: I’d love to say that I absolutely adored both Lock & Key and Random & Rare, but in the end I simply liked both books. I enjoyed the story, though there were places that dragged for me, and liked the author’s voice throughout it.

This story went to a place that we wouldn't expect it to go... It took us back. Back to Dig's story. Usually with these kinds of series, we go from living character to living character. In this book we meet Dig, Grace's first husband. But he isn't her husband just yet. We get a better understanding of not just Grace, but the whole dynamic of the club.

Then we switch back to the future/present... Grace and Miller. After seeing everything that happened with Dig, we are more appreciative of his love for Grace and now Miller's love for her.

There is always two sides to a story. Both sides in this story will rip you apart from the inside-out! This book is the missing link in Grace's story we didn't realize existed. Now that the chain is complete, we can site back and wonder what more is to come of this club.

This is an intense emotionally honest tale about romance from The lead male character Digs point of view. How his attraction for Grace began as soon as he laid eyes on her and never ended. Dig waited and waited till he had no choice but to go through with Graces half cocked plan of pretending to be his old lady. Dig realizes he does not deserve her and she kept away from her but just can not bring himself to.

Dig has his own demons from the past to overcome and he knows Grace does too. Dig awakens from nightmares continuously thrashing and fighting he often chokes Grace in his grip of fear.

Much happens in this book so very much. More than half way through Grace has to work through her life without Dig. Much is mentioned about Graces possible dealings with Butler and Vig but their is no clear flow or description of what occurred. Grace seems lost without Dig even with her new husband Miller she just wants to escape from her past hurts.

This book is very heavy with a lot of twists and hard consequences to decisions of choices made.

I would recommend this book but caution is not a light hearted romance but a darker gritting nail biting romance.

WARNING~ Your eyeballs will need windshield wipers for the last 10% of this story!

I absolutely LOVED getting inside Dig's head. We didn't get much about him from Lock and Key and to be honest I didn't really like him much. I felt like he didn't give his all to Grace the way he should have. I was wrong. Dig was so much more than I thought and I'm so glad the Author let us see that. A lot of times when a book like this comes along you're thinking oh it's gonna be the same story just told by a different person. Well this in not the case with this one, this one made the story in a whole so much more rich and meaningful. Thank you Cat Porter for a look inside Dig.

COPY COURTESY OF NETGALLEY I didn't really think I would like this book becuse I really liked Dig's character. I didn't want to rehash his death. But this author is a great story teller. We got to see things from Dig's point of view. I loved them together. Don;t get me wrong, Miller is a good guy also. Grace was fortunate to have two great loves in her life. This story gives you more insight into Dig, Grace and Miller. I loved how the author intertwined everyone's story and in the end it wrapped up so nicely. I think Miller called it CONVERGENCE. loved it.
the way Ms Porter tells a story is wonderful. It is like you know the chracaters personally. This story takes you throught the full scope of emotions. I look forward to reading more from her.
