Description
Ten Things I Hate About You meets the charm (and sisterly shenanigans!) of Netflix's Nobody Wants This in this slow-burn, fake dating rom-com from the author Kate O'Keeffe says "you can get utterly lost in."
Savannah is on a mission to reconnect the Prestly sisters the best way she knows how: reliving their carefree childhood summers at the beach. She's booked the same beach house, convinced her sisters to take the month off, and even made a bucket list to fit in all their favorite coastal fun. It's going to be perfect . . . or else. (And if planning this trip has anything to do with a certain secret she's hiding . . . well, let's not dwell on that.) Sun, sand, and some sisterly bonding--what could possibly go wrong?
Enter Bianca, the baby of the family, with a huge announcement: she's getting married! And her sisters' reactions are . . . not exactly what she hoped for. But Bianca is on a mission to prove that she's not the mess they think she is. Her grand plan? To find love for Cora, her perpetually single sister, on the same dating app where she found her fiancé. The stakes? A bet that if Cora can't find her 'One' on the app, Bianca will call off her engagement. A challenge Bianca is all too ready to tackle head-on, even if it means a little conniving. Cora's about to get swept off her feet, whether she likes it or not!
Meanwhile, Cora is rolling her eyes so hard they might get stuck. Love is a fairy tale for other people, not her. As she's filling out her dating profile, she thinks--nope, she knows--it'll be easy to show her sisters just how absurd this whole love thing is. So what if this Jax guy Cora just matched with is Hemsworth-brother hot? And, if his messages could be believed, maybe even slightly charming? None of this is real, anyway--love just doesn't come easily Cora. And she's getting ready to prove it. She's got this under control.
(Spoiler alert: nothing is under control.)
What Not to Do on Vacation is a charming and lighthearted rom-com that promises low spice but high laughter. Join our leading ladies as they navigate through beach vibes, dating app drama, fake dating, and a playboy hero with a heart of gold in this modern reimagining of The Taming of the Shrew. A must-read for those who enjoy adorable romance sans the steam, a healthy dose of family drama, and a fair share of humor. So, if you're ready to dip your toes into this sun-kissed, feel-good read, don't wait! For fans of Jenny Hale, Emma St. Clair and Melissa Ferguson.

What Not to Do on Vacation: A Must-Have for Your Summer Beach Bag
If you love stories about messy families, unexpected romance, and sun-soaked second chances, What Not to Do on Vacation is the beach read you need this summer.
Three sisters—Savannah, Cora, and Bianca—are back at their childhood vacation beach house in Florida to honor their late mother’s final wish: one last summer together. Savannah, the oldest and most put-together, is the one pulling everyone back. Cora, the middle sister with a bit of an edge, isn’t exactly thrilled. And Bianca? She’s the free spirit who impulsively got engaged to a man she met on a dating site… without ever seeing him in person.
To prove her whirlwind love story is the real deal, Bianca makes a bet with Cora—and ropes in Jax, a charming local with his own reasons for playing along, to help stage a fake relationship. Chaos, laughs, and heartfelt moments follow.
The narrator did a great job of making this book and enjoyable listen. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan audio for this free advanced copy . I am leaving this review voluntarily

A special thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for providing an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My favorite summer romance this year! A great job developing the sisters characters and interactions and all the folly that comes along.
Savannah is determined to reconnect with her two sisters. Her plan? To recreate their epic childhood summers at the beach. She has rented the same beach house, convinced her sisters to clear their calendars for a whole month, and made a bucket list of beach activities they need to relive. A little bit of nostalgia and summer fun will be the perfect antidote to the divide that has been plaguing the Prestley sisters for years. Did the secret she's hiding have anything to do with her planning the trip? Maybe, but that's beside the point. The fact is, everyone could use a little vitamin sea in their life. It's going to be great! What could go wrong?
Bianca has a surprise. She's getting married! Of course her sisters aren't as thrilled at the announcement as they should be, which she probably should've expected. Her entire life, she's been trying to prove that just because she's the youngest doesn't mean she's a baby. So maybe she had some trouble getting her act together in the past, but that's different now. She's determined to show her sisters just how together her life is. And if the only way to do that is to find a soulmate for her closed-off-sister to prove that the dating site she used to meet her future husband is legit, then Cora better get ready. She's about to be swept off her feet. Bianca's going to make sure of it. Who's the one lacking follow-through now?
Cora knew there was a good reason she does her own thing. It's because people in general--her sisters specifically--are ridiculous. Bianca needs to give up her delusion that this new relationship will work out perfectly. It won't. And Savannah needs to let go of her hopes of Cora getting married. It's not going to happen. She likes being alone. Life is better when she's alone. Safer. But she'll go on this date if it will show her sisters just how ludicrous they're being. And since they set her up with the town playboy who has never been on a second date in his life, proving her point has never been easier. She's got this all under control.
At least she thinks she has it under control.
Not under control at all.

Karissa Vacker did an outstanding job of bringing the characters to life in the audiobook, perfectly capturing their emotions, humor, and loving tones.

10 things I hate about you, meets How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, meets Nobody Wants This…
This was such a cozy, warm, sweet, familiar, (somewhat) cheesy in the best way, Rom-Com!
10/10 fully recommend! I listened to the audiobook book and the narrator did such an amazing job voicing the characters.

This was very much like How to Lose a Guy in Ten days, at least with the Cora and Jax situation, complete with a wager unknown to each other with a well meaning sister (Bianca) wanting to see Cora find happiness just like she did on via a Soulmate app . That part was fully of witty banter, sweet dates, and of course falling in love in spite of their best intentions. Many truths are discovered on the way and how it might be best to actually meet your match in real life (Lord Farquaad! I laughed so very hard at this part!!). So, yeah there was much humor and laugh out loud moments, misunderstandings and I loved it all!
This story was made even fuller and touching because not only was this a search for love, it was a time for bonding of sisters, old traditions followed as a last wish by their mother to spend time at the beach every year and new traditions as they are all grown now with lives of their own. I really liked that part too and loved reading how Savannah, Cora, and Bianca got to know each other again and how they stuck together when it really mattered.
This was a fun book to listen to. It felt fresh, and even if it was a bit predictable, I enjoyed all the sweetness and humor and the very perfect happily ever after. It is a good pick me up and the narrator did a wonderful job in making all the characters real in this wonderful story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen to the fun lighthearted audiobook!

I loved this book! It was everything that I could have wanted in a romcom! It was light, funny, and had an happy ending. All of the characters were wonderful. Cora was the absolute best - I loved her sarcastic quips. I loved the scene where Cora and Jax meet in CVS. Luke and Jax were the perfect book boyfriends. This was my first book by Rachel McGee and I am excited to read more!

I just finished the perfect vacation book. What Not to Do on Vacation by Rachel Magee was so enjoyable. I flew through it.

AMAZING AUDIO. FABULOUS STORY. The epilgue *chefs kiss. FIVE STARS FIVE STARS.I loved this book! it was perfect. I loved the 4 pov; made it more engaging

Oh my! This book was perfectly executed! I loved the sisters and was pleasantly surprised that I could follow all the narratives! The narrator was awesome and I truly enjoyed this book! This is my first book from this author and will not be my last!
All opinions and thoughts are my own! Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read this book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Stars (Outstanding)
Setting: Charming Coastal Town
Genre: Rom-Com
What Not to Do on Vacation by Rachel Magee is everything a clean rom-com lover could ask for—funny, heartfelt, and refreshingly wholesome. With no bad language or spicy scenes, this delightful story is perfect for readers looking for a lighthearted escape filled with sunshine, sisterhood, and swoon-worthy (but PG-rated) romance.
Savannah’s mission to reunite the Prestly sisters at their childhood beach house sets the stage for a perfect blend of nostalgia and chaos. Her determination to create a flawless vacation—while quietly hiding a secret—gives the story heart, while her sisters’ wildly different personalities spark endless laughter and unexpected depth.
Bianca’s surprise engagement kicks off a hilarious chain of events, including a high-stakes bet that turns Cora’s dating life upside down. Watching Bianca scheme and Cora resist (and slowly unravel) is pure joy. And Jax? Let’s just say he’s the charming wildcard every good rom-com needs—handsome, witty, and unexpectedly deep.
Magee masterfully balances laugh-out-loud moments with tender family dynamics and thoughtful growth for each sister. The nods to The Taming of the Shrew are smart and subtle, giving the story a modern twist that feels both classic and fresh.
If you’re looking for a clean, feel-good read with strong female characters, hilarious banter, and sweet romance, What Not to Do on Vacation should be at the top of your summer reading list. It’s the perfect reminder that even the most carefully planned vacations—and relationships—can lead to the most unexpected joys. #netgalley #whatnottodoonvacation #booked_this_weekend

Cora! What a legend. The cynicism, the sarcasm, the competitiveness, the independence. I loved her character so much. The other sisters, Savannah and Bianca, were alright. (I mean, they were perfectly lovely, but they were no Cora.) My xennial heart loved the Ten Things I Hate About You and How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days vibes coming from this novel. I guess that kinda means Shakespeare is the inspiration, but whatever. This was a great mix of women's fic and rom com. You get a bit of enemies-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, sibling relationships, family secrets and character growth. And there were a few cute kids too. I had requested this because of Karissa Vacker's narration, so this author is new to me. But I really enjoyed this.
And Karissa Vacker was amazing, as usual. I'm not even bothered by the fact that they had her narrate four different character POVs, including a male POV. Just meant that we got more Karissa.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ALC!

Three sisters, a summer together, and finding love? Sign me up! I LOVED What Not to Do on Vacation by Rachel Magee. It was a feel good story with love and banter. It was a rom-com in an audiobook. I did not love the narrator, but I did get used to the voice as the story progressed. This was my first book by Magee but certainly will not be the last.

This book pulled me in from the first chapter to the last. It is such a perfect feel good light beach read with a little bit of family drama, secrets, and some romance sprinkled in!
This story follows three sisters: Bianca, Cora, and Savannah. They are all grown and busy with their current lives which leads them to have lost touch. Their mother had a dying wish that they would continue their family beach trips to the Panhandle of Florida. Savannah is determined to reconnect with her sisters and her plan is to recreate their childhood summer vacations. She has booked their vacation beach house for a month and has planned a nostalgic beach trip with a fun bucket list.
The audiobook was phenomenal and perfect for a beach listen. The audiobook is narrated by Karissa Vacker. Her voice was perfect for telling this story. She did a great job giving voices for the sisters and even the male character’s point of view.

Rachel Magee is a new author for me. I am so glad I took a chance on her! This was a great contemporary women's fiction full of sister dynamics. It reminded me of me and my 2 sisters, even down to the young and free spirited youngest sister and the bossy older sister trying to hold it all together. Set in a beach town, the 3 sisters go on a sister trip. Free spirited youngest, Bianca, thinks she is in live and engages herself to a man after only 4 weeks and have never met. Cora, the middle sister refuses to date. So, they make a bet. Cora will go on dates for 3 weeks matched by the dating app. If she doesn't find love, Bianca will wait to move to Idaho and marry her mystery man. The adventure begins! and what a ride it is. Reminiscent of How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. There are no swears or alcohol and level 1 kisses only. Multiple POV from all main characters.

If you can only pick up one book to read on the beach this summer, this one should be in your bag, on your kindle or listening device. I thoroughly enjoyed all three of the sisters. The clean romance was fun and a little funny. The setting ( the beach ) is always a hit with me.
The multiple points of view keeps each of their stories moving along at a perfect pace. It is a predictable story, but the journey is worth every flip of each page ( or in my case each hour of listening ).
I am now interested in what Rachel Magee is going to write next and I want to go back and catch up her other books.

Thank you @tnzfiction for my early copy of @rachelmageauthor ‘s new novel, WHAT NOT TO DO ON VACATION, out May 20, 2025.
This is the perfect book to kick start your summer beach reads! Rachel Magee manages to write a great novel with sisters (often at odds) with secrets, and beach town locals. Each sister fulfills the typical role of first born, middle child and baby of the family, all while trying to keep it “together” on this last hurrah to their family’s beloved beach (before their family went through a divorce).
The novel has some thought-provoking moments about reflectively thinking about our perspective and how far from the truth it can possibly be. Along with this there are deep themes about the secrets we keep from each other, and why (plus whether these secrets are good, or whether we should let it all out there).
Definitely read this if you like Courtney Walsh’s novels and low spice, 30-something women’s literature!

What Not to Do on Vacation, Rachel Magee’s latest release, is more than simple romance. It’s a heartwarming family tale of three sisters who gather together in their childhood vacation spot to reconnect. Savannah is dealing with a health issue she hasn’t told her sisters about. Bianca surprises her sisters by announcing she is getting married to a man she met via an app and has been talking with for months but has never met in IRL. Cora, who has pretty much given up on trusting men and finding love, makes a bet with Bianca that the app is flawed and can’t be used to find a soulmate by agreeing to test it out on herself. Each of the sisters is looking for something, even if they don’t realize it, and over this magical summer they all find what they need. Part romantic comedy and part family drama, I loved ever minute of it, and absolutely loved when Bianca’s fiance showed up. He only had a small part but was unforgettable. Karissa Vacker does a fabulous job narrating the book was a absolute pleasure to listen to. I really need to check out more of Magee’s work. I’d like to thank Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review an advanced copy of the audio version of What Not to Do on Vacation.

I had the opportunity to listen to this book. the audio was great. Karissa Vacker is easy to listen to and makes the story interesting. She also does a great voice for Jax. I would highly recommend the audio.
This book was exactly what I needed. It was funny, light-hearted and had multiple point of views. Usually with multiple point of views, I can get confused or I lose attention fast because I am invested in one character. I loved all the characters. The story was easy follow story which was really nice. The plot was well thought out and although is a little predictable I really enjoyed it. The author does a great job of following multiple stories and keeping it simple, but also making it interesting. I wish there was more because I really became invested in the characters.

okay, first of all, why does this book give me SUCH “how to lose a guy in ten days vibes”? like the bet and the whole thing. i personally LOVED it. how to lose a guy in 10 days is one of my fav movies and i’ve been WAITING for a book that would feel like it. and this one did! i absolutely love the story, it’s kinda predictable, but what romance book isn’t? it’s a beach read, definitely, also kinda gives 90’s rom-com vibes. they don’t do romance like that anymore. i feel like if i read it on my kindle instead of listening to the audiobook, i’d probably give four stars. karissa vacker (the narrator) is SO FREAKING AMAZING. i could listen to her voice for hOuRs and HoUrS!!! another thing about this book is the balance between the plot and the romance plot line. in some romance book it’s so about the romance it feels like the characters don’t have a life at all. but the characters in this book are like so relatable and real and i’m so here for it. and the character development >>>

i don’t think there’s anything i didn’t like tbh with you guys. i am HOPING for a bianca&luke book because they were so cute and i shipped them sm. i need their story!!

⌞ 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲 ⌝ i honestly can’t decide which prestly sister is my fav but cora is definitely the one i most connect with and relate to. plus her sarcasm is THE best.
⌞ 𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲 ⌝ i felt so bad for her when the whole xander ( is thaf how his name is spelt, idk man) thing happened. i love her so much, she was so fun and sweet. and she’s everything i aspire to be in life, she’s actually so smart.
⌞ 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐥y ⌝ i have to say, she might be my least fav prestly sister but that doesn’t make her any less amazing. i kinda wish i had an older sister like her.
⌞ 𝐣𝐚𝐱 𝐢𝐝𝐤-𝐡𝐨𝐰-𝐭𝐨-𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐡𝐢𝐬-𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭-𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 ⌝ if my future husband doesn’t volunteer with sick little kids in the hospital, i don’t want him. jax is my new fav book bf.

this book has a VERY cute cover, but it kinda looks like every other romance book, so i wasn’t expecting much, but this was SO FREAKING AMAZINGGGG. definitely read this!

⤷ thank you to thomas nelson and zondervan fiction audio for providing me this book through netgalley in exchange for an honest review<3

This book is such a great read! Whether you’re in the mood for a romcom, a redemption story, or a family drama full of heart, this one delivers.
What starts as a fun fake-dating plot quickly deepens into a touching story about three sisters trying to reconnect on a nostalgic trip to their childhood vacation spot. The getaway is anything but smooth—full of conflict, emotion, and ultimately, healing.
With two love stories and a moving look at the bonds of sisterhood, this book is heartfelt, honest, and truly human.
Big thanks to Rachel Magee and Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for the audio ARC. I can’t wait to add this one to my trophy shelf!

I love how this author does contemporary versions of Shakespeare. The romance is secondary to the story about the relationship among sisters. I loved the sister’ growth and the side characters. This was a perfect beach read. Narrating was top notch.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

LOVED IT!
This was a beautiful, fun, yet emotionally stirring experience…. I think most of us can relate to at least one of the Prestley sisters…. And their summer shenanigans not only kept me interested, but they made me laugh out loud, clench my jaw, roll my eyes, and reach for tissues. Anytime you get all that in one book, it’s a keeper.
The author did a fantastic job developing her cast! This book is a hit, because the characters are so unforgettable (& the story is good)!!!!

I absolutely loved this book! From the sisterly relationship between Cora, Savannah, and Bianca, to the new connection between Jax and Cora, this book kept me fully engulfed in the story. The multiple points of view worked really well for this book as well.
The sisters are spending the summer together at the beach and Savannah desperately wants to recapture some of their childhood memories. However, Cora and Bianca don't always have the same priorities. Despite that, can they still have a great time together?
I recommend this for a fun summer read. My only complaint is that I wasn't on a beach reading this book, because it would be the perfect beach read. 🏖️
thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc of the audiobook, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

What a perfect summer read. Sisters, Savannah, Cora and Bianca go back to their childhood vacation spot to try to connect. When Cora and Bianca make a bet about whether an AI dating app can actually find true love, the summer takes a turn and only a family emergency can bring them back together. I loved the story of 3 very different sisters managing life and coming together. The narrator is so good and gives everyone very distinct voices.

An excellent beach read for the summer, What Not to Do on Vacation is filled with family drama and a slow burn romance that will light you on fire. I found relatability within the Prestly sisters identifying the most with Cora; a no nonsense realist who is shocked to find out her sister plans to marry a man she's never met because of an app. What starts off as a sisterly challenge turns into more when Cora joins the app just to prove her sister Bianca wrong. Meanwhile Savannah just wants to live in the past, unfortunately, sometimes you can't really go home again.
With a nice mix of family drama and romance, I found a lot to love reading What Not to Do On Vacation. Karissa Vacker did a fabulous job narrating!
Thank you Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for the gifted ALC.

What Not to Do on a Vacation - a modern day ode to romcoms and the taming of the shrew..
Rachel Magee has woven a beautiful tale of the dynamics and communication struggles haunting the Presley Aisters - Savannah, Cora and Bianca...
Urged by their mother's dying wish, they head back to Sunnyside Beach to recapture the magic of their childhood, but this is easier said when one also has to rehash the pain of the past..
The tale begins when Bianca declares she will marry someone from her online AI matched app, and challenges her loner middle sister, Cora, to see if she can't find love
Enter Jax Verona, who must show a sign of commitment to his uncle to gain the VP position in the family enterprise. Its a how to lise a guy in 10 days meets taming of the shrew .. (I live for the subtle referenced like when the dun deck becomes the moon deck!!!)
The narrator did a fantastic job in capturing the sarcasm of Cora, the weary motherly indictments of Savannab and the vivacity of Bianca perfectly!! A joy to listen to and i finished in a day!
Thank you to Netgalley, Macmillan and Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for the audiobook!! Looking forward to more!!!

✨Review - What Not To Do On Vacation by @rachelmageeauthor
This retelling of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew brings all the beachy vibes as three sisters meet at a vacation home in Florida to fulfil their mother’s dying wish of them reconnecting to relive childhood memories.
This one was so sweet. Lots of sisterly drama that ultimately ends in reconciliation and healing. Each sister’s character was very well developed, and I loved that you got to read from each of their POV. And then of course there was some romance too. Each of our love interests came into the relationship with a secret agenda, and I loved seeing their defences wear down as they became more vulnerable with each other.
A huge thanks to @uplitreads for allowing me to be part of this campaign. All thoughts are my own.

What Not to Do on Vacation by Rachel Magee is a delightful rom-com, just perfect for summer down days. Three sisters find themselves at the beach, just like when they were little. Except, nothing is like when they are little. Not them as people, not their expectations, not even their memories of their time there. There are stories within the story and still, they all blend together seamlessly and create an excitement for when the point of view switches again. I adored each of the sisters and their reasons for being there as well as their reason for staying, because let’s face it, nothing ever goes as planned. The messes, and chaos, and drama, and familial love are all wrapped up nicely with well-timed humor and poignant life lessons. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to more by this author.
In addition to the book, I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook, narrated by Karissa Vacker. I thought she did a great job with distinguishing all the characters, nuances, and general essence of the story.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

This book was an absolute delight to read! It had everything I look for — engaging writing, memorable characters, and a story that stayed with me long after I turned the last page. The author’s voice is distinct and compelling, making it easy to get lost in the world they created, no matter the genre.
I'm incredibly grateful to the publisher for the early copy. It was such a joy to read this in advance, and I can’t wait for more readers to experience it. Highly recommend!

“We’re all stronger when surrounded by our loved ones.”
I was so excited to read this book. Not only is it the first book I’ve read from this author, I thought it would be the perfect “start to summer book” and I was right. I loved the beach vibe of the cover too.
The story is full of humor and heart and I really enjoyed these three sisters. Savannah, Cora, and Bianca are fantastic characters. The development of these women is well done. Their healing and mending of past hurts was expressed well. The bargain the sisters make was a great lead to the story. The idea of the dating app for Cora and Jax was fun.
The multiple POVs was done well. The author does a great job of showing each sister and their needs. Savannah wants the perfect reunion, to relive all the fun things the sisters did in their youth, but her motives are for other reasons. I loved Bianca and her positivity and how she improves her situation, and hatches a plan for Cora. My favorites were Jax and Cora. They had the perfect meet-cute toothbrush argument. The two had amazing chemistry.
The audio narrator was fantastic. Karissa Vickers does a great job with all the voices. Her tone and expression brings the story to life.
Thank you to @uplitreads for including me in the tour. Thank you to the publisher for the NetGalley links for the audio/ebook and the paperback!

This was my first time reading a book by Rachel Magee—and I loved it! What Not to Do on Vacation is a warm, funny, and heartfelt story about three estranged sisters reconnecting at their childhood beach house. The mix of family drama, sweet romance, and laugh-out-loud moments kept me hooked.
Cora and Jax’s slow-burn relationship was a highlight, and the sisterly dynamic felt so real. I’ll definitely be checking out more from this author. Perfect for fans of feel-good beach reads with heart!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC to review!

A Delightful, Laugh-Out-Loud Escape!
What Not to Do on Vacation by Rachel Magee is everything I want in a vacation read—charming, hilarious, and surprisingly heartfelt. From the very first page, I was hooked by the witty writing and the refreshingly relatable characters. Magee perfectly captures the chaos and comedy that can unfold when best-laid plans go hilariously wrong.
The protagonist's misadventures are not only entertaining but also layered with genuine moments of self-discovery and unexpected romance. The pacing is spot-on, the dialogue sparkles, and the setting made me want to book a trip—preferably with a much better itinerary!
Rachel Magee has a talent for mixing humour and heart in a way that feels effortless. If you’ve ever had a vacation that didn’t go according to plan (and let’s face it, who hasn’t?), this book will have you laughing, cringing, and cheering all at once. A perfect beach bag pick—I couldn’t put it down!
Highly recommend for fans of romantic comedies, armchair travel, and anyone who’s ever needed a vacation from their vacation.

"What Not to Do on Vacation" is a heartfelt blend of romance and family drama that delivers both emotional depth and lighthearted charm. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of the sisters through their unique points of view. Each one bringing a fresh perspective and adding richness to the story. The supporting characters were equally compelling, perfectly complementing the main cast and bringing warmth and humor to the narrative.
What begins as a simple vacation meant for bonding soon turns into a transformative journey. The sisters not only reconnect with each other, but also confront the pain of their shared past, offering forgiveness, rediscovering themselves, and, for some, even finding unexpected love. The story kept me fully engaged from start to finish and I found myself eagerly turning the pages, not wanting to put it down.
This is a touching, well-crafted novel about family, healing, and second chances and is an absolute joy to read.

This book was funny, wonderful and oh so very good! Sister fun and laughs and romance between all 3 of them. Family, fun and good laughs. Really enjoyable and I really enjoyed this audio! I loved the narrator. Always enjoy listening to them. Will recommend this to anyone who will listen!

Thank you NetGalley, Uplit Reads, TNZ and the author the audio!
This is the PERFECT, must-have book to throw into your tote for a summer vacay or poolside read! That’s exactly what I did on a recent trip to PCB, Florida & I think the whole beach could hear me squeee when I realized the setting for this story was in the quaint seaside town of Sunnyside … just a mile down the road from our beach condo! Talk about an immersive reading experience on a whole new level! Gah!
And I absolutely loved the story! Messy family drama, sister bonding, lots of snark & clever banter, swoony no spice romance and a very satisfying happy ever after! It’s funny, charming, heartwarming with characters that capture your heart … all the things that make a rom-com so much fun!
I
listened to this on audio and the narrator did a fantastic job bringing this book to life and I absolutely recommend!

Thank you for the opportunity to review this audiobook. I really love this narrator and she did not disappoint this go around!
The story was lighthearted and endearing. I loved the sisters and can’t wait to see if we get more in their world because I would be here for it!

Thank you, Rachel Magee & Thomas Nelson / Zondervan Fiction, for this ALC copy of What Not to Do on Vacation 🏖
Karissa Vacker did a wonderful job narrating all of these characters. She sounds great doing male & female voices, and her fun, carefree style made this an entertaining audiobook.
The plot: I loved this book so much, and I really enjoyed the Prestley sisters and their tradition and nostalgia of staying at the beach house during the summer.
The romance storylines were great and definitely had "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" vibes!
This is the perfect beach read (or any time), and I highly recommend it. The whole book made me feel cheerful. 😊
You can find What Not to Do on Vacation on Amazon, Audible, & Kindle!

What Not To Do On Vacation is such a sweet, wonderful and refreshing story about sisters, family, love, hope and so much more. This book has just the right balance of romance, comedy and family bickering to make it believable and endearing to readers.
This is a story of three sisters who have grown apart over time. Cora, Bianca and Savannah return together to their childhood vacation spot where they spend a month trying to rekindle their relationship. While they are there, Bianca drops a bomb on her sisters that she is engaged to a man she met on a dating site whom she has never met in person and is moving away to be with him. To convince her sisters that the dating site is legit, the three of them make a bet. If Cora, who has kept herself emotionally closed off for years, joins the site and finds love, she and Savanah will support Bianca and her decision to get married. But, if Cora does not find her soulmate, Bianca will have to call off her wedding.
Told from multiple points of view, the characters are so well developed and well rounded. Their different personalities shine through. The connections between them and the relationships they share are so natural that it is easy as a reader to feel like you are right there with them.
With no spice, this book has a fresh, family vibe and is perfect for a beach blanket read! I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator, Karissa Vacker was amazing! Her voice is easy to listen to, and she did a tremendous job bringing the different characters to life.
For anyone the requires trigger warnings, there are some deep topics such as the death of a parent and medical issues such cancer and heart health.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for the ALC of this book. It was such a joy to listen to!

This was a delightful and lighthearted story full of the many dynamics of family, fake dating and the drama that comes with it! The plot was captivating from start to finish! I highly recommend this clean, funny, and darling read! Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.

This is a story about sisterly love, romance, fun summer adventures and lots of laughs. Great combination of story elements. There was a diverse cast of characters and the story flowed well making a quick listen. The narrators brought the story to life.

What Not to Do on Vacation is a heartfelt tale by Rachel Magee. This story recounts the summer beach trip of the three Prestly sisters. Savannah is the eldest, married and mother of two precious little girls. Cora is two years younger than Savannah and is a fantastic photographer with her own business but not so fantastic when it comes to relationships. Then there is Bianca, the baby of the family. Eight years younger than Savannah, she is the least settled and desperately seeking her niche.
Before their late mother passed she made Savannah promise to take her sisters back to Sunnyside in Florida for an extended summer vacation to reenact the many happy times they spent on their family vacations as children. As the eldest, Savannah feels duty bound to carry out this request. Plus, Savannah’s memories are the most extensive. So reservations are made, a month at the beach planned, and bombshells are ready to be dropped.
Savannah, although well in charge, is guarding a deep secret. Cora is struggling with issues of her own. And Bianca is about to make a life altering move designed to find her place in life but she just might lose herself in the process. An accident occurs that focuses the family lens and rights their course before disaster strikes.
This was such an enjoyable read. With dynamic characters and a lovely beach setting, the reader will be rewarded with every turn of the page. I do recommend this book!

What Not To Do On Vacation by Rachel Magee was the perfect blend of 10 Things I Hate About You and Nobody Wants This. Rachel Magee delivers a charming and heartfelt story in about three sisters grieving the loss of their Mom and coping very differently with the loss. This novel is the perfect blend of humor, romance, and self-discovery, set against the backdrop of a chaotic yet unforgettable beach vacation. I really loved this book. It’s a perfect fun Summer read. Karissa Vacker did an amazing job with the narration! She had several characters she voiced and did it so well. I was so invested in each of the characters stories.

Oh my goodness! What a super cute book! First, I absolutely love the narrator, Karissa Vacker. Second, the story. Wow. Love the story of Cora and Jax. Love how witty they are with each other and love all of their banter. Their banter had me smiling. So cute. This is a fun beach read, and I highly recommend. Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for the advance listen in exchange for my honest review. All thought and opinions are my own.

This was such a cute summer read! That was some romance but at its core this was a book about sisters. Personally I don’t have a sister but I still thought this book did a good job of showing the importance of family and how they can push your buttons but also will bend over backwards to make sure you get what you need. I would absolutely recommend this book especially if you want a fun summertime read and you’re tired of the standard romance.

Thank you Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction Audio for the ALC.

What Not to Do on Vacation is the perfect summer audiobook with excellent narration by Karissa Vacker. A spin on 10 Things I Hate About You, this has humor, romance, sister bonding, and drama. I loved it and plan on constantly recommending it.

This isn’t a genre I typically enjoy. I loved every moment of this story. The author captured the messy lives of three very different sisters. The interactions between the sisters and their love interests was stirring. The romance was squeaky clean and I appreciated it as well. As with and great book I read, I didn’t want it to end. Outstanding narration. Highly recommend.
I was blessed with an ARC. The opinions I have expressed are my own and unbiased.

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁:
I loved this one so much! It had all the summer vibes, family connections, sisterly drama, rebuilding of relationships, meddling, finding love, and small town vibes. This book follows the 3 sisters as they rekindle their bond with a month long cottage beach vacay in Florida. Perfect beach read that gives you all the feels!
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:
Savannah is on a mission to bring the Prestly sisters back together as they have grown apart, so she made it her summer mission. She booked a beach cottage, made a summer bucket list and guilted her sisters into coming. Now she has to work up the guts to tell them her big secret. Plus get them to actually spend some time together.
Bianca is the baby of the family and she just dropped the bomb she’s getting married and is moving out of state! Oh and she met the guy in an AI Dating App, its only been 5 week and never seen him in person. It sounds crazy but convinced it’s the real thing so she maid a bet with Cora. If Cora didn’t find “the one” on this app she would call off the wedding. So when Bianca overhears a stranger’s conversation in the bar, and he seemed like the perfect match she may have meddled a bit. It’s still up to the app to match Cora and Jax but they really would be perfect for each other.
Cora is the skeptical sister, fierce, independent and didn’t believe in love. So she thought this bet with Bianca would be an easy win, but then she matched with Jax. He somehow is her perfect match and the more dates she goes on the harder she has to try to sabotage their connection. As there is no way finding the one could be this easy.
𝙁𝙖𝙫 𝙌𝙪𝙤𝙩𝙚𝐬:
“And maybe life wasn’t perfect like they thought it was all those years ago. Maybe what was perfect, maybe the thing that had brought them healing, was just being together.”
“…sometimes what we think are life’s biggest disappointments turn into the biggest gifts.”

After my last read I had no idea what was next. But this cover just kept catching my attention so I picked it up and so glad I did. This book was exactly what I needed!
There was a fantastic balance between family/sibling dynamics and romance. It was light, funny, and heartwarming. Also loved that we got chapters with each sisters’ POV.
This was my first by Rachel Magee but I will definitely be going back to check out her backlist!
I read this as a mix between physical and audio and thought the narrator did an amazing job.

Everyone needs a little vitamin sea, am I right? That’s certainly what Savannah thinks when she is determined to get her sisters together for a month getaway at the beach. She even creates a bucket list of items to help each of them reminisce in positive past memories. The sisters were extremely close while growing up side by side but time has forced a wedge between them. They haven’t spent substantial time with one another in a few years.
Each of the sisters travels to the beach with a little secret of their own. Bianca shares that she is getting married and she is met with less than enthusiastic responses from both sisters. Cora prefers to be by herself, she feels safer that way. But, Bianca and Suzannah are determined to help her find the man of her dreams and fall in love.Hence, Cora joins a dating app mainly just to prove to her sisters once and for all that love is not in her cards. And, she thinks it will be even easier to prove once she is paired with the town heartthrob who hasn’t been on more than one date with anyone in several years. Can we just say player?
This is a story of rom com of sisterly love and bonds told from multiple points of view. It’s considered a romantic comedy. Itr’s cozy and entertaining. The characters are forced to step outside of their comfort zones and are loveable.I would consider this a clean beach read that skims quickly across some trigger warnings mentioning the death of a parent and cancer. There is a lot of warmth and support. The book is charming with witty banter amongst the main love interests. It’s a slow burn that has laugh out loud moments. It’s a quick read. When I read the description of this book, I knew I would love it! Well, I was right. This had humor and lots of it, tension, relationship drama, and a whole lot of love. Oh and the ocean! I loved all the characters and seeing the events unfold from each of their perspectives instead of just one. I will definitely be recommending this one often. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

This was such a good audiobook! I just finished and was in tears. The growth within the characters was amazing! I can’t wait to snag a copy of this for my shelf!

Rachel Magee's What Not to Do on Vacation serves up a delightful blend of sisterly chaos, secret missions, and unexpected romance, all set against the backdrop of a summer beach getaway. Savannah, the determined older sister, is on a mission to rekindle the Prestly sisters' bond by reliving their idyllic childhood summers. She's meticulously planned everything: the same beach house, convincing her sisters to take a month off, and even crafting a bucket list of their favorite coastal activities. This trip simply has to be perfect, especially given a certain secret she's harboring.
Then comes Bianca, the youngest, with a bombshell announcement: she's engaged! Her sisters' less-than-enthusiastic reaction fuels Bianca's own mission—to prove she's not the "mess" they perceive. Her grand plan? To find love for their perpetually single sister, Cora, using the very dating app where Bianca found her fiancé. The stakes are high: if Cora doesn't find "the One" on the app, Bianca vows to call off her engagement. Bianca is ready for the challenge, even if it requires a little conniving.
Cora, however, is not convinced. Love, to her, is a fairy tale for others. As she begrudgingly creates her dating profile, she's convinced she can easily prove the absurdity of the whole "love thing" to her sisters. But then she matches with Jax, who's "Hemsworth-brother hot" and, astonishingly, charming in his messages. Cora still insists "none of this is real," believing love just doesn't come easily to her. She's sure she has the situation "under control."
Magee crafts a charming narrative about family dynamics, the surprising paths to love, and the hilarious mishaps that ensue when sisters meddle. This is a perfect summer read for anyone looking for sunshine, laughs, and heartwarming connections.

This book stole my heart and left me with a big smile on my face! I absolutely adored it.
Three sisters, one summer vacation, and a whole lot of meddling and mischievousness. This romcom/family drama has a little of everything. Sisters Savannah, Cora, and Bianca have come to the beach house, which holds childhood memories for them. Savannah, the oldest, hopes this will help reconnect them.
The summer is quickly filled up with meet-cutes, big announcements, a not-so-friendly wager, dating apps, and a secret or two. From matchmaking and fake dating to surprise romances and a concerned husband, I loved these sisters and the men in their lives.
The story cleverly pays homage to Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, adding a unique and intriguing twist to the narrative. The sisters, each with their distinct personalities and attitudes, bring a refreshing mix to the story, adding humor, engaging dialogue, and sassy banter. While this book may not have the spice, it's certainly oozing with heart, humor, and sweet romance. A perfect vacation or beach read; I didn’t want this one to end.
🎧One of my favorite narrators, Karissa Vacker, does an amazing job with all the characters—a great complement to the physical book.

What an absolutely heart warming read!! Perfect to bring with you on a beach vacation. All about family, finding yourself, sisters, love and more! The banter between the sisters was hilarious and also just such a great story. Absolutely loved it !

This is my favorite RomCom of the year! I listened to the audio book and that was great - good narrators and easy to follow. The main story was the dating based on a bet trope which was predictable but fun. The book also tells a story of three sisters who have been distant since their mother passed away. They try to recreate their childhood summer vacation which gave me Elin Hilderbrand vibes. I really loved this one!
Thank you to NetGalley for audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This. Was. Adorable!
And… sweet. And… sad. And… enlightening. And… heartfelt!
Meet the sisters…
Savannah…married with kids and a husband. And…Happy!
Cora…the perpetually single sister who loves life, but never plans to be tied down… not again.
And Bianca… the baby. Who met a guy on line. Fell in love. And…plans to marry him and move away. She’s engaged to him, but has never actually met him!!!!! Wait! What??????
So, when Bianca decides that the best thing for Cora is to ‘sign up’ on a dating match site to meet her ‘forever’ guy, well, Cora just laughs. Like…that’s never gonna happen!
And I’ll just 🛑🛑STOP. RIGHT. HERE!! 🛑🛑
That’s all I’m giving!
If you want to laugh, cry, smile, shed happy (and sappy) tears…don’t miss this one!
Although there are some rocky parts, this is a keeper!
And I absolutely love how the sisters just always come together when times are good… or bad. And that’s what friends (and family) are for! Through thick and thin!
4 1/2 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 for me, happily rounded up to 5!!!!!

I listened to this gem via NetGalley and absolutely loved it. This book is everything I want in a summer read—sweet, cozy, and full of heart. The sisterhood dynamics were so well done, capturing the complexities of love, rivalry, and support that come with family.
The beach setting was perfect for a summer read, and I really appreciated how the story explored the different life stages and experiences through each sister’s perspective. Add in some hilarious fake dating, witty banter, and unexpected romance, and it’s a total home run.
