I really enjoyed this book — the pace is great and it’s a real page-turner. Lootie is so inspiring; she ran for 697 days across the world, averaging 40km a day. She navigated all sorts of terrain, as well as the challenges of the pandemic.

As I was reading, I found myself wondering why she wasn’t mentioning any injuries after all that running. But as I read on, it all became clear. Around 79% in, her running philosophy reminded me of a book I’ve read called Born to Run by Christopher McDougall — and lo and behold, she mentions it at 80%!

Lootie has such a positive mindset and prepared and trained appropriately. She experiences her runs through all five senses, and I loved how she talks about looking forward to the opportunities and surprises along the way to a new destination.

I also really enjoyed the historical and cultural insights, as well as the nature and background she weaves throughout the memoir. And the kindness of strangers really stood out.

I especially appreciated the section at the back of the book detailing the journey in numbers — a lovely touch. Amazing book and I fully recommend. I received a free advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and and this is my honest review.

Thanks to Amplify Publishing and NetGalley for this free ARC in return for my honest review.

Let's get this out of the way first. I am 71, never was a runner and have mobility issues. And, I LOVED THIS BOOK!! When I first saw the title it intrigued me, and Marie Leautey's story is one of great endurance and perseverance. This is a truly inspiring story of Marie's journey to become only the 7th person (2nd woman) to run around the world, and in doing so she ran a Marathon each and every day. It took over 2 years, was interrupted by COVID, and also introduced us to people and places that Marie encountered, as well as the goodness of the people she encountered along the way. She went though 16 pair of shoes, ran over 28,000 kilometers, never got a blister, ran in all weather and in all terrain. And so close to finishing this run she developed Covid in Australia - but she kept on running. It was a remarkable feat and basically lets us know what we can accomplish if we put our mind, body and soul into something. This is a marvelous book, an easy read and can teach everyone important lessons. I was sad when the run ended, and I wonder what lies ahead for this remarkable woman!!

I can't really wrap my head around running a marathon 6 days a week for years! It's an extremely impressive feat, especially when you factor in that she didn't get injured, didn't eat a special diet - and did all this during covid restrictions. I almost can't believe it!

Highly recommended for runners and all athletes, and for women and all those invested in the accomplishments and betterment of women around the world. Lootie is running partly to raise funds for Women for Women International, an organization helping women survivors of war, and she places great emphasis on women's rights and equality throughout the book.
