Advance Praise
"Lynch is on to something interesting when he compares police intuition with psychic foresight. In many ways the processes seem similar, especially in the way that a detective's mind shifts into the subconscious when assembling the pieces of an investigation..."
"Bragg is authentic, gripping, gritty."
"The books are damn good, featuring a hard but believable hero"

I’ve been binge reading this first-rate series of books about Peter Bragg, a San Francisco private eye. Brash Books has reissued this series written by Jack Lynch and they provide an enjoyable read with absorbing plots, plenty of action, and some great characters. Especially recommended for fans of “old school” detectives.
My review was posted on Goodreads.

Die For Me is a reunion in two ways: We meet up again with Peter Bragg, the newspaper journalist turned private investigator, and Bragg reunites with a psychic he once saved.
The psychic is seeing people die and her visions seem to be very close to being all too real. A serial killer is on the loose and he seems to pick his victims completely at random. Bragg and cop tries to find some rhyme or reason to the crimes and try to prevent another tragedy.
Author Jack Lynch passed away in 2008. This is a newly published edition of Die For Me.
I enjoyed Die For Me as it unfolds little by little, enticing a reader, without going to extremes. You guess along with the characters. And what they find out, you find out. Little by little.
New fans of Lynch will enjoy this book for its pure mastery of language and older fans will appreciate the nuances of Bragg.

Thank you to NetGalley and Brash Books for Die For Me by Jack Lynch, a superb serial killer mystery. This is my first Peter Bragg thriller and I am most certainly going to read the seven other Brash books by Jack Lynch. Peter Bragg’s voice is human yet knowledgeable and believable. Bragg does not judge and seems to know how to keep his thoughts to himself. Bragg is adept at handling psychic Maribeth (with whom he has past history). Taking the psychic’s visions to the police, Bragg convinces them as well as himself that there really is some psycho who has killed and buried a good number of people. Why? is not so easy to figure out. As more and more bodies are discovered in various parts of Jack London State Park, Bragg races against time trying to locate a calculating killer who is a threat to Maribeth. I enjoyed the pace of this novel and the mystery was compelling. Bragg easily carries this book to a riveting showdown. I highly recommend this crime thriller to those who love serial killer books.

I received an advanced copy from Netgalley to read and review.
This was a great mystery-thriller. The characters were well written and the storyline kept you going. I only had an inkling near the end of who the killer might be. Mostly about the same time the characters were figuring it out. I'm going to have to go back and read the rest of the books in the series.

Great story illustrating the seamier and exotic sides of San Francisco. And the interaction between characters is intriguing, unexpected and keeps leading you on. A great read.

Peter Bragg is a guy who gave up his job on a San Francisco newspaper and is now pursuing his career as a private detective. Suddenly his past has caught up with him and now Marianne, a woman he once saved from a dive off the Golden Gate Bridge, is calling to request his help. She has discovered she has a “gift” and is now working as a psychic consultant. Recently she has had a vision of the hillside burial site of victims of violent unsolved crimes. The only problem is that in that same vision she has also seen her own future as it relates to this case and that future is pretty grim. Marianne is not really sure of where the bodies are buried but has a general "feel" for the area. With the help of Sonoma County Sheriff’s Detective Barry Smith, Bragg sets out to discover the elusive burial site and when they do what they discover is nothing short of mind boggling.
This is an above average tale featuring an old school detective. While the damsel in distress story line is familiar, author Jack Lynch has managed to give it a new spin and make it new utilizing equal parts imagination and forceful literary skills. To reveal more would be a crime but for lovers of the books of Dashiell Hammitt and James M. Cain this is a perfect page turner to start your summer.

The wheel is come full circle. - William Shakespeare
This book was originally copyrighted in 2002 under the name WOLF HOUSE. I am glad that Brash Books decided to republish this offering of Jack Lynch's. Lynch passed away in 2008 but his work lives on, which is a good thing.
DIE FOR ME is a well written private detective novel featuring Peter Bragg. Bragg gets a call from a psychic that he talked to years ago while he was a reporter for a San Francisco newspaper. At that time he helped prevent this woman from committing suicide. Now this psychic has seen a field (in a vision) where a number of bodies have been buried after being brutally murdered, and she fears for her own life. And she asks Bragg to figure out where this field is.
A touch of the paranormal, a serial killer, relationship problems, strong women, and Bragg himself - a motivated PI who asks the right questions and is diligent in wanting to find out the answers - make this an entertaining book that I finished much too quickly.
I liked protagonist Peter Bragg. I thought the author did a fine job in developing his character. I also especially liked Rachel Goodwin, the only female detective in the Violent Crimes Unit of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department. In fact, there were many characters I liked in this book.
The book flowed well and was only a little dated feeling even though written so many years ago. I liked it well enough that I plan on reading some more of the series.
NOTE: I received this book from Brash Books through Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.

I would like to thank Brash Book and NetGalley for providing me with an electronic copy to review. Scared for her life and full of information she psychically obtained about a serial murderer, Maribeth Robbins gets in touch with a person from her past. Private Detective Peter Bragg was a reporter many years before when he sucessfully talked Maribeth out of committing suicide. When her predictions regarding the killer's burial site comes true, Maribeth is unwillingly thrust into the spotlight. Die for Me features a great plot, fast paced action, and an explosive conclusion. This is the first book that I have read with Peter Bragg, but having prior knowledge about the character was not necessary to enjoy the story. His combination of instinct and intelligence make Bragg a very interesting character and one I would like to know more about. I recommend this book to readers who like police procedural novels and mystery/thrillers.

Peter Bragg would seem to have multiple dimensions and is more than just the hard-boiled noir detective I originally thought he was! Since he's a PI, violence can be part of his job. But, there are many kinds of violence and they all have consequences - for the perpetrator(s), for Bragg, for the victims, for those who help the victims, for those who investigate, and for many others. Die for Me explores all of these aspects of violence. While retaining the typical tropes of a rousing detective story - bodies and clues and suspects and danger - Die for Me, rather untypically, is also a probing character study, an exploration of how the different forms of violence depicted in the story affect particular individuals and their relationships.
Of course Bragg is the central character of the novel and it's not surprising that his reaction to violence is to move toward it, to confront it, and then afterwards to compartmentalize it and not dwell on it. But that doesn't hold true of everybody. Die for Me explores in some depth how police detectives, forensic anthropologists, TV reporters , office managers, those with mental illness and even psychics respond to threatening circumstances.
A very interesting parallel subplot deals with the character women exhibit in dealing with the verbal violence men use to denigrate them. Happily, Bragg shows himself to be surprisingly sensitive! Die for Me is a excellent mystery to read as much for its puzzle and suspense as for its insightful portrayal of human nature and the consequences of violence. Highly recommended.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

once again I thank the publisher for relaunching Jack Lynch - sensitive to women's dilemmas as policewomen and as social citizens, and plausible in use of psychics in this one, he is a wonderfully contemporary private eye with those dark edges from the 50's too - this is a gruesome serial killer story, and it takes us to places no one wants to go ... young children and seemingly odd victims buried in a field - what happened and why; what's also always interesting is the theme of local journalism and its part in crime - helpful or not? since Bragg, the PI who is main protagonist, was once a journo he has special insight - i've read another in this series with Bragg as detective and it works very very well - highly entertaining and with a narrative drive that is difficult to resist. bravo!

This is the first Bragg novel I've read but it won't be the last. When Bragg agrees to help Maribeth, a lady he stopped from committing suicide over a decade earlier, he didn't expect the enormity of what he'd agreed to. A fast moving plot that keeps you turning pages.

Die for Me Jack Lynch
Just call me Bragg. That's what he always tells people. That's what he tells Maribeth when she calls him for help. Bragg is a PI and Maribeth needs his help. She is a psychic and has had unusual dreams. She tells him that there are bodies buried and is worried there will be more. Can't say where but she gives him a good idea of the area around the burial site. With this info Bragg goes searching.
This is a wonderful mystery. Following Bragg as he untangles the clues and meets a lady cop, Rachel, who joines with him to solve the murders.
The characters are well developed and the plot is so twisted it is a joy to figure out. Keeps you guessing till the end of the book. Not a lot of shooting or car chases but it is not necessary. This is a mental exercise in deduction. Once you start you will not want to stop.
Thank you NetGalley for the free Kindle version

I am never disappointed when reading one of Jack Lynch's books. And Die For Me was no exception. This is the last in the series and was slower paced than some of his other books, but still a very good read with enough twists and turns to maintain your interest through to the final chapter. What a shame that Jack Lynch is no longer with us to extend the series even further.

Great read. Lots of action and intrigue. Will be reading more from Mr Lynch.

A psychic saved from suicide by Peter Bragg now calls him for help. She is having visions of bodies that are buried. The bodies aren't buried in a cemetery . Peter is a private investigator. She is afraid that she will become a body buried with the rest of them. Peter agrees to investigate. Can he help the psychic? Will he find the bodies?
Who is killing these people? Why? The psychic can't see how the killer is. She only knows it is a spot that has ruins by it. What will Peter do?
The mystery is excellent as it has a few surprises in it. I was intrigued with the how, why and who killed these people. It was very intriguing as how Peter was going to find the mass graves. Yes, there is more than one mass grave. I have not read any of the author's works before. I do think you can read this without having read the others. However, I enjoyed the mystery so much that I will be reading the other Bragg mysteries. I am saddened by the fact that he is deceased as I would had like to read his future novels.

Bragg had worked on a newspaper as a reporter, but now was a private eye in San Francisco. Maribeth had talked to Bragg years ago when he had been a reporter. By talking to him and on a suicide prevention line, she decided against suicide.
Bragg was an interesting character. I liked how he kept going until he found the answers he needed.
The plot was good as was the overall story. I recommend to anyone that likes this genre.

And did the psychic call it right?
Well she certainly found them the killing or burial ground - and right by the Jack London House of the Wolves.
She also maybe called it right when she sensed danger - but for whom, and from whom, and why?
A fairly typical detective novel with a baddy and some goodies and a protector in the form of Jack Bragg - so some of the usual sexism and male chivalry that one has to expect in these type of novels. But don't let that put you off. It is well written and the story has enough twists and turns to satisfy the crime aficionado. A suitable story in this series that never fails to be enjoyed.

Thanks to netgalley.com and Brash Books for the advance copy for my review.
I had Jack Lynch recommended to me, by Joan and Annie, co-owners of the now closed Cousin's Used Bookstore and never came across any of his books.
So I was excited to see 'Die For Me', on netgalley.com and even more that Brash Books approved my request.
Originally released in 2002, titled as Wolf House, takes place in the 80's, it's hard-boiled fiction at it's best and you'll believe in psychic's at least for a while.
This was a totally enjoyable read, like Lynch's writing style and that he used his own life experience molding his Peter Bragg character. It made for some great reading, could relate to it, full of twist and turns and like the fast pace to it.
Feel like Lynch with his style, he makes you read every word, and you skip nothing in his writing.
Peter Bragg's a likeable character, a retired newsman, turned private detective, believable and at his best when involved in a case. Lynch put a great support cast around Bragg, has the knack to create vivid likable characters and some easily could have had series created about themselves.
Sheriff Detective Sgt. Barry Smith and Sheriff Detective Rachel Goodwin would make for some good reading in their own series. Then Maribeth, Bobbie, Karen Ellis, girlfriend Allison France and even the bad guy all play important roles, they stand out in the storyline and make it all workout perfectly.
Life goes full circle for Bragg. When the lady who's life he saved from suicide, on his final day as a reporter, calls him.
Let's him know she's a psychic, has a vision about a burial site near a vineyard in Sonoma and Bragg brings it to the police. I really like the premise that the police let him be involved in the case.
Bragg in his own way, puts the pieces together and ultimately solves the case. You'll have to read to find out how he does it.
Highly recommend reading Jack Lynch. Just wish we had more than just the eight Peter Bragg to enjoy. Absolutely love that were seeing hard to find, long out of print books being reissued as ebooks.

Didn’t realize until I was near the end that I’d read another book in this series, of which this is the eighth; I blame it on the first person point of view.
A former reporter/now PI hears from a woman he once saved; she’s now a psychic, and tells him she pictured a body dump, and he has to find it. Despite the paucity of clues she gives him, and always remembering that this kind of plot twist is going to be convenient, I found the way it was all worked out convincing and logical, which put me in a good mood for the rest of the novel.
The rescue of the damsel in distress, while not eminently predictable, still happened the way I thought it would, albeit by someone other than the hero. The killer also turned out to be the most obvious, the one character who really didn’t have to be in the story. The most interesting part is all the women, many of whom are more interested in him than he is in them. I particularly liked the female detective, and wish there had been more on her; if there are more books in this series, I hope she’s in them. On the other hand, his soon-to-be-ex seems to only be there to tie up loose ends from previous books, and while at first I liked the coincidental meeting with the psychic’s niece, she soured me quickly.
In general, I liked it well enough, a serviceable mystery/thriller.

This is just my luck, I start reading an interesting series with the 8th and final novel. This is a great book and I plan to read the rest of the series, this time starting with the first one. This is the story of Peter Bragg, a reporter turned private investigator. In this story he is working with a psychic he knew from his past. She tells him where bodies are buried and the story takes off. It is a hang on to your hat ride after that. I like the way women are protrayed in this story, especially the dectective Bragg works with. This is a very good book and I can't wait to read more in this series. I received this free book from NetGalley for an honest review.

3.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Brash Books for this free readers edition. In exchange I am providing an honest review.
Another Bragg Thriller checked off my list. In this one Bragg gets pulled into a grisly scene. Mass burial sites are unearthed through a psychic's feeling and multiple bodies are found. The problem is there is no connection so there is no starting point for trying to determine who is killing so many people and why. Bragg is up against the clock, along with the police, as they try to figure it out before the next body joins the others. An enjoyable read as Bragg books have been for me. This one was rather fascinating due to the serial killer part and the discovery of who, what, why.

Peter Bragg has seen a few things in his time, but nothing like what his new client is describing. She's psychic, and her latest visions are of dead bodies,... including her own. A serial killer and a mass grave, a manhunt, a down to the wire chase and an unmasking All of this combines to make an incredible thriller.
