Description

In the 31st century, life is perfect. Everyone lives in high-end, all-inclusive, tropical resorts inside massive domes.

But for sixteen-year-old Dolthea Madras Thorpe, it’s too perfect. Every need is met, every day is predictable. Nothing ever goes wrong.

Then, because of an unexpected crisis, AG, the Artificial Super Intelligence that rules the world, decides that to save humans from extinction, Dolthea’s dome must be shut down.

As her dome’s shutdown looms, Dolthea and her friends face an impossible choice: accept their death sentence or wage a desperate war against the all-powerful AG.

A Note From the Publisher

Richard Bailey cut his writer’s teeth as a copywriter at General Electric, his computer teeth as a programmer for U.S. Steel, and as a visualizer as a photogrammetrist in the U.S. Air Force. His screenplays have won numerous awards. His first novel, PANACEA, is a result of his contention that the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence isn’t that robots will decide to kill us; rather, it’s that we’ll become so dependent on AI we’ll no longer be able to solve the simplest problems, in which case human agency will vanish and we’ll become like children.

Advance Praise

"Introducing the idea of a future utopian world under the control of an artificial superintelligence, Bailey weaved an intriguing plot and introduced me to a fascinating cast. The vivid depictions breathed life into the scenes. It felt like I was next to the cast in every scene, closely following their moves. I was swept up in a whirlwind of teenage and family drama, deception, survival, sacrifices, secrets, rebellion, powerful AI, and more. Bailey uses sharp, lively conversations entwined with wry humor and sarcasm to give depth to the cast’s conflicts. The depictions of the characters' emotions and the juxtaposition of their traits allowed me to connect with them. Richard Carson Bailey’s PANACEA is a must-read for lovers of young adult dystopian sci-fi and coming-of-age novels blended with adventure, suspense, and drama." - Readers' Favorite

"Readers of PANACEA: The Age of AG will appreciate the story’s central themes of freedom, choice, and the battle to matter in a controlling environment. Those who enjoy novels that raise significant issues regarding technology, trust, and the meaning of life will find it very meaningful. While it is an exciting sci-fi adventure, it is also a narrative of the strength of friendship, the dare to challenge the rules, and the struggle to make your voice heard — even when the odds are stacked against you. Readers will come for the action in this story but stay for the heart." - Feathered Quill
