I really liked the look of the Bible and the excellent comics. They really add an imaginative feel to the Scripture giving a mental image of what things may have looked like.

'The Action Bible Study Bible ESV' combines the great Action Bible art by Sergio Cariello with a pretty decent study Bible for younger readers.

This includes the entire text of the ESV Bible. Each of the 66 books includes an introduction. Within the text are study boxes including verses to memorize, ancient and interesting items from the Bible (like the ark of the covenant, or the Shema), sections that ask and answer tough questions that come up during the reading. There are devotional sections and illustrations by Sergio Cariello. There are marks in the margins showing what sections have been illustrated in the Action Bible. Also included are 40 full-color pages in 4 page sections with kind of an abbreviated look at the Action Bible.

The study content is solid. The addition of the Action Bible illustrated pages is good. The entire story of the Bible is told in those pages, but abbreviated. It feels a bit abbreviated, but the illustration work by Sergio Cariello is solid. I really liked the Bible book intros. They include an overview, some key people to look for, and a cool key word collage. It's a pretty great package, and I'd recommend it for a younger reader needing a study Bible.

I received a review copy of this ebook from David C. Cook and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

The Action Bible Study Bible ESV includes the amazing artwork from The Action Bible with the solid, full text of the ESV and study notes appropriate for a younger audience. The artwork features an abbreviated view of the stories of the Bible, just enough to captivate those with active, visual imaginations. I have long been a fan of both the ESV translation and The Action Bible so their being published together is definitely something to be excited about. Highly recommend.

When I picked up The Action Bible Study Bible ESV in a store, I judged by its cover and was disappointed with the lack of amount of comic art. I love the introduction pages. In each introduction, the "Faith in Action" section makes small art mural of the key words found in the book. I was expecting the whole Bible to have the format of the introductory pages. But as I looked through the Bible I found other things that I liked. This Bible would be great for highlighting and jotting notes. The "What about this?" section asks questions about the faith that most people ask. The "Unlock It" sections which ask important questions to help understand the passage. The "Guess It!" sections is a challenging guessing game with 5 clues. The "Ancient Archives" sections add history to give a quick glimpse of what it was like in ancient times. The "Activate" sections give small devotions. The "Remember It" sections highlight important verses to memorize. This Bible also has maps, sketches, a dictionary and a concordance. Although all these sections are good, I thought that there would be more of them. At first glance, I thought the whole book would be in comic format. But as it is, it is a great study Bible for any comic lover child or adult. I would buy this book for my children and I recommend anyone into comics to purchase this book.

When looking for a Bible for your children, there's always a lot to consider. I always want a good translation that is both true to the original language as well as easy to understand. I look for a study Bible that gives insights, things to think about, culture, context, and encourages my children to contemplate and ask questions.

As far as translations, you can certainly Google search for differences, but there are a few helpful links at the end of my review to find out which version tickles your fancy.

This Bible has some pretty cool things on each page that will catch the attention of children and helps them get the most out of their study Bible. I'm gonna take a stab and say this is good for 4th or 5th grade on up. Overall, this seems to be an engaging study Bible.

The Mardel Translation Guide is about two pages in length with a chart that goes into each translation's philosophy, target audience, and what makes each one distinctive.
This link goes into when it was translated, who the translators were, the philosophy of the translation, and which texts and manuscripts they translated from.
This link is a short description of what it means to be a word-for-word translation, meaning-for-meaning translation, or a paraphrase.

Thank you Netgalley and David C Cook Publishing for a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Selecting a bible for our children or any child is the first step to love a child well. You want to select a bible that will encourage them to read it, walk in the word and know the love of God and His plan for redemption. This bible does all that! Not only for children but for anyone that struggles to get into their bible. Using graphic pictures and context helps a child to connect to God’s plan. Not only knowing that God loves them but his purpose for redemption.

Each book of the bible begins with a summary of what God is doing and who wrote the book. This helps prepare the reader’s heart to receive God’s word. People in Action depict the main players and faith in action with key words that describe what faith in action looks like. Did you Know? Gives a great insight i.e. –the 10 plagues in Exodus targeted different Egyptian Gods. About worship and how Jesus came to fulfill the law.

Ancient Archives bring brings the word into context. Helping the reader understand the culture of the times and what it can mean for us today.

Guess it is a fun way to challenge your knowledge of the word. Asking several questions with the same answer helps bring the word to a different level for one that seeks to God.

What About This? Is a question that we may ask God that can trouble our faith or a question that is a desire to understand God’s ways.

Unlock it takes a verse and goes deeper that unlocks truth that exposes God’s character and attributes.

Remember it is a verse that is key and a great word to memorize.

Activate . From the mundane to the extraordinary, application of scripture as we walk with God, everything matters along with the condition of our hearts it all matter to God. How do we respond to others? How do we respond to the character of God and His ways? Using our culture, just as Jesus used parables, we are given insight how God is involved in our everyday! Activate is engaging part of daily bible reading.

I am grateful to David C. Cook Publishing. They have solid Christian books to encourage God’s people to know him in truth and spirit.

A Special Thank you to David C Cook and Netgalley for ARC copy and the opportunity to post an honest review.

This is a fantastically engaging version of the Bible that will really appeal to children. The language and illustration make it easy to read and visually attractive to families and children from around 5 up until mid teens and beyond.

Great for leisure and educational reading and for those wishing to gain knowledge of the Bible from a young age.

I enjoyed it so much I am purchasing a copy for my children and we will use it in our home education studies.

Solve the mysteries... Unlock the action... explore history... find out what, why, how, and when things happened. Enjoy seeing the Bible and its stories again in a new and mystery solving way. Children and adults will love diving into the Action Bible with its easy to understand version, the English Standard Version.

My kids and I really enjoyed exploring this Bible. Illustrations in Black and White can be colored (if you chose and order the paper version) and the Explore, Unlock, and Guess It articles made old stories they had heard over and over were given new life. My son loved trying to find answers and wanted to continue reading after normally wanting to do something else. The ESV is perfect for the younger generation as well as those who need something that isn't bogged down with thy, thou, and thee. A great new Bible for the kid in you...

Using the same artist, The Action Bible ESV Study Bible is aimed at a slightly older population than the earlier Action Bible. Including the complete text of the ESV, an abundance of self study devotional questions, and a few snippets of the visuals that defined the earlier work. A variety of indexes add additional value to the book.

While the earlier Action Bible appears to be designed for the 9-12 year old child, this version would appear to be designed for the junior high or middle school student. Note, this differs slightly from the publisher’s recommendations, who suggests slightly younger age groups for each of the two books. Having said that, it should also be noted that the devotional material may be encouraging to Christians of any age from 12 on up. With the assistance of parents, it may even be useable by younger children.

The devotional self study material consists of Bible memory suggestions, answers to tough questions about faith, brief insights to important Bible passages or events, trivia questions, historical insights, application helps, and more. Those sections also illustrated in the Action Bible are marked in the margins of the current book for cross reference if desired. Much of this material is also indexed for future reference.

Though I am within a few weeks of reaching my normal retirement age, I found this version of enough interest and help to install the e-book I received on my e-reader for regular access and easy reading. I suspect many other readers will want to do the same. ______________ This review is based on a free electronic copy provided by the publisher for the purpose of creating this review.
