My life was perfect—with a handsome, loving husband, a beautiful home and devoted family who gave me everything I could ever have wanted. Until she knocked on my door.

There on the porch, I see a woman who looks just like me. I almost believe her when she says seven words that turn my world upside down: “I’m Sandra Steele. And I’m your mother.”

She’s lying. She must be. My real mother died in an accident. But the police have started asking questions. And now this woman is here… was she involved?

I go cold all over. She bites her lip, just like I do when I’m nervous. She knows things only a birth mother would know. But there are holes in her stories, and her accent doesn’t match where she says she’s from.
