Kyle McDoyle is a thirty-something doorman in Edinburgh, unhappy and bored with his life. A low-level criminal and occasional drug dealer, he has aspirations of becoming a gangster, but he's in debt to drug gangs and his illegal activities are drawing the unwanted attention of his bosses. When his wife comes into an inheritance and he gets the opportunity to move a quantity of cocaine for some mobsters in Amsterdam, things seem to be on the up. Until his wife threatens to cut him out of her inheritance and he embarks on plans to claim the money for himself.

Kirk McDonnel is a thirty-something businessman in Leeds, happy and satisfied with his life. Abandoned at birth, he was raised in Edinburgh by his adopted parents, not knowing his biological family. But with the help of a generous benefactor he has a privileged life and is looking forward to a trip to Amsterdam.
