I've been drooling over the covers of the fist two books in this series, but I have issues with paying over $3 for an e-book. Now I'll probably break that rule cause this book was so awesome that I need to read about Con & Vanessa.
Oh my, Lord was some serious kind of hot and sexy, plus he was so stinkin' sweet to Elle. Now Elle was no slacker. She stood her ground and made him work for it. The two of them together was explosive. So did not see that person as the bad guy.
Nice teaser in the epilogue for the next book, Tristen. I'm trying to decide if I want Hennessey HEA.

Beneath These Chains is an unforgettably incredible example of literary magic and pure bliss at its finest. What we see take shape before our eyes is more than just a journey of two lost and hurting individuals searching for something more. It is a living concept of life at its finest and at its worst. The lines and colors that make up this world converge and separate at seemingly random yet perfectly timed intervals in order to always intertwine and forever remove the threads that make up the beautiful mural that becomes the whole of our existence. No matter how much we try to force colors and objects into our final masterpiece only those that make up the correct elements will stay with us indefinitely while others will fall away quickly and sometimes painfully. In the end, we learn to accept the unexpected and treasure the priceless gifts that are brought into our path.
Elle finds herself lost in a never-ending battle for her freedom. With every breath she breathes, she fights to maintain the fragile yet deceptive veil of complete control. She has convinced herself that her desperately desired independence can only come from compartmentalizing her life. Shoving her heart out of the picture, she lives a sterile and shallow version of a life she secretly longs for. Lord isn’t a white knight in shining armor, but he is a man who knows what it means to appreciate every small blessing and treasure that he discovers. When Elle walks into his world, he wants nothing more than to thank his lucky stars and cherish every minute that he is granted with her. Keeping her in his life will be the biggest challenge that he has ever faced, but he is nothing if not persistent, patient, and persuasive. Will Lord be the one to open Elle’s eyes to what really and truly living life feels like, or will she bolt at the first signs of his encroaching upon her independence?
Lord was the perfect ying to Elle’s yang in every possible way. He truly completed her and breathed life into her very soul. Not to be outdone, but she proved to be the very challenge that Lord needed to bring spice and joy to his life. I truly adored how much he made Elle feel cherished and valued in every way while not overpowering her. He never pushed her knowing that he would lose her in a blink of an eye. Watching Elle respond and come alive under his tender yet patient love melted my heart in every possible way. This was truly a spellbinding and breathtaking love story that held me captive until the very end.
With each new character that I have the immense privilege of getting to know, I have found myself falling irrevocably and deeply in love with this outstanding series. It is the pure heart and the beautiful soul of Meghan March who breathes life into these powerful and irresistible stories of hope destroying fear and love rebuilding lives that has won my devotion and my heart as a reader. What better way to spend your time then savoring an impossibly provocative and extraordinary work of art written by a truly outstanding and absolutely exceptional literary genius!

Elle’s screams of ‘Lord’ in the bedroom take on a whole new meaning in this sexy and suspenseful story. I adored Lord. I would get down on my knees to worship him, but he wouldn’t allow that because HIS WOMAN should never be looking up at him. (btw, I swooned so hard when those words came out of his mouth).
Elle may come from money, but she’s lost the things in her life that really matter: her father to death and her mother to alcohol. She shows up at Lord’s pawn shop one day and declares herself hired. It’s part late-rebellion but it’s mostly because she’s looking for something…an item that was taken and that she needs back.
Lord’s less than pleased that Elle decides to just appear out of thin air, but he’s mostly pissed because he can’t stop thinking about her. When circumstances require Lord to claim fake ownership of Elle he’s realizes he wants the real thing. In the same way that Elle decides to work for him, he decides they’re going to date. It’s incredibly adorable, infinitely endearing, and super fucking hot.
They have two rules: no expectations & no bullshit. Hallelujah. What’s even better is that they actually follow these rules.
I loved both characters and their interactions with each other. While danger is lurking and seems to follow them, they each cling to each other as the lifeline they never knew they needed. The lack of relationship angst made my heart soar. Lord was a rock for Elle and somehow, even with all of her issues, she keeps making the right decisions and clings to him. She’s no pushover, for which I gave her incredibly high marks, and Lord is about as sexy as a man can get.
Start praying, ladies. Lord kills Elle with romance and orgasms. Now, that’s my kind of heaven. This is one big, tattooed teddy bear who I absolutely loved watching fall in love. 4.5 stars!

This is the first book I have read by this author and boy have I been missing this experience. This book is AMAZINGLY WELL WRITTEN! I will definitely read the other books in this series.
Lord runs a pawn shop one day as he was firing an employee for stealing in walks Elle his brother's girlfriend's best friend. Elle is described as a man hot dream. She excludes sex and confidence. Elle wants a job and she has a problem with the word no. Lord can nit deny the attraction he feels for Elle but wants her just as much as he wants her out of his way.
The passion between these two is immediate and explosive. The intimate scenes are jaw dropping. So much happens in this book. It ends in a HEA. Please read this book! I will definitely read the other books.

Yowser this book was hot! loved it! Five stars all the way!

Loved it! A great continuation of the series, even though it can be read as a standalone. Story was fast moving and satisfying.

Oh My Lord, this book was awesome.....pun intended!!!
I absolutely loved Lord and Elle's story and I have to say he might just be my favorite now in the series.....And after Con, who would have thought.
We were first introduced to Lord and Elle in the second book of the series. Lord is Con's older brother and Elle is Vanessa's best friend.
Elle approaches Lord at his store, which is a pawn shop and tells him she needs to work for him. She literally bullies her way into the job, as he is rather reluctant at first. The chemistry between these 2 is off the charts. Only problem is Elle is only interested in a one night stand and Lord is looking for something more permanent like his younger brother has.
Enter a bad ass gangster who is also interested in Elle and things start to escalate between Lord and Elle as he claims her in public in order to protect her....Of course Elle does not protest too much!!! I mean hell who would?
This is a really great read from start to end as both Lord and Elle battle their inner demons in order to have their relationship. Throw in a few murders, that happen to be pointing in their direction and you have a book with intrigue, a bit of drama, lots of sexy scenes and all around a book you wont want to put down....
Looking forward to and counting down for the next one!!!

I'm a cover snob. I had no idea this was third in a series, until I started reading it, because I only wanted to read it for the cover. But now that I finished it, I need to go back and start from the beginning. I seriously enjoyed this book. It was filled with sass, excitement and plenty of sexy time. Who knew pawn store owners would be so fierce and romantic??
When Elle walked in the pawn shop, she was on a mission. That mission did not include getting caught in the sights of the owner, but missions don't always run smooth.
Lord didn't want little miss priss working in his store. She was too fancy for this place, but she wouldn't leave. After listening to a few of her tips, he lets her stay, but soon they're both caught up in this uncontrollable passion that totally took them off guard. I mean, these two had a connection that was off the charts. The tension was CRAZY!!! It was super hot.
But unfortunately, Lord wasn't the only one with his sights on Elle. Pretty soon there were people all around them were starting to cause them some trouble and they had to stick together and try to find a way to uncomplicate things. This is where the excitement and suspense comes in. My heart was racing, quite a few times.
I am quite excited to see what's coming next. But first I need to get caught up.

I love the flip in this story that the woman is the rich one while the man is someone who came from nothing. It adds a nice little spin to the normal romances out there. And what you'll find while reading this is that it is different from most romances in a lot of ways. There's no unnecessary drama that adds that tension to the couple; it was a nice build up to two people being willing to drop their facades for each other.
"Instead of a scarlet letter, I had an invisible tattoo that said: I scream your name when I masturbate."
Elle may be rich but her family life leads a lot to be desired. She may have always had that fire that runs her, but I think it really began to ramp up once things started to go bad. Her stubborn nature came forward and took over. She's got a strong personality and she doesn't really take no for an answer. When she goes to Lord's pawn shop demanding (yes, demanding) a job, she doesn't realize that it'll put her in a position to letting down her exterior. She was sassy and spunky, and I enjoyed the fact that she fought for what she wanted, but was completely pliable to him...she may not have wanted a relationship, but Lord was going to take one.
"'Surprised a guy like you wants to be taken instead of doing the taking,' I said.
'Sweet thing, you took me from day one. Why should this be any different?' he replied."
Lord is the type of man that gives off that air of being dangerous. Not that he is, but that he's used to being around danger. Having grown up in the streets and being forced to steal to remain fed and clothed, he's definitely seen some things in life. He carries that knowledge and experience around on him, whether it's on purpose or not, but he sees Elle as that something sweet that he wants more than anything to have earned. I liked that he was alpha, but completely understanding of Elle's boundaries. He was sweet, pliant, and patient...for the most part ;)
"I'd hardly recovered when he was pressing into me. I didn't need to recover. I never wanted to recover. I wanted this man to wreck me for the rest of my life"
It was a great story that focused on the building and breaking down of walls without going to extremes. It had an enjoyable character arc that build up the heat and love between the two. It was well written with the perfect amount of sexiness to add to their story. This is my first novel by Ms. March and I greatly look forward to going back and reading the first two standalone novels because she's a great storyteller.

I was so excited to hear that Lord was getting I book I stalked this author quietly at first and then well I’m sure she blocked me but not before I got an arc of this book. This book, let me tell you about this book.
I was raised on the streets, so I know things are rarely as simple as they appear—especially this rich girl showing up at my pawnshop demanding a job.
Just like that I’m sucked in. Dragged in. Down the rabbit hole. Wanting more. Lord is running his pawn shop, in the wrong side of town. Well not wrong form him, just wrong for some people. That person in particular is none other than Elle Snyder. Elle the beautiful debutant, who should never be wrinkled she is also best friend to his brothers girl. She shouldn’t even be on this side the world, but yet here she is.
My eyes dropped to her red polished toes and skimmed up long, tan legs, the green dress, her ripe tits, and finally her face. Sexy as fu*k and screamed high class from every angle. And off limits, I reminded myself. And wasn’t that a shame.
She is without a doubt the finest thing that he has ever seen. He wants her at every single turn, but he knows he can’t touch her. There is just one problem with that, actually just one problem with that Elle. You see she is here looking for a job. A job in a pawn shop. A job in the pawn shop that Lord is trying to kick her out of. Just one little thing she doesn’t take no for an answer. Like ever. Lord has flat out denied that she was to ever to work there. He has actually forbid her from ever coming to the shop. Well if that is the case, I guess she will see you tomorrow!
So not only does she show up for work the next day, again dressed like sex on a stick. She actually knows her stuff. She knows how to price things and she knows what he is actually underpricing. She also wants to change the store. Well, Lord isn’t one to let someone take over his shop, or is he?
I couldn’t believe I was saying the words. She was going to complicate the shit out of everything.
Elle knows she in trouble. Not only is she out of her element in this shop, she is also there with a secret. She is one sassy lady not letting anything that Lord say get to her, and he has been saying lots of things, most of them starting with No.
I wanted him. Under me. Over me. Behind me. Whichever way I could have him. I put every bit of my longing into the kiss as I rocked against him, wanting more and closer.
But when things start to take a turn for the worse, and she catches the eye of the local thug. Lord knows he has to do something to make sure she is safe. What better way that to take her home. I can totally see that!
I pulled her into my arms and caught the tears on my thumbs.
I was gone for this woman.
Abso-fu*cking gone.
Done.
She was mine.
But what happens when you are both fighting the demons inside you? What happens when you want a future with the person who is also fighting with the past? You look beneath these chains holding you down.
“But we all deal with out demons in different ways. We’ve all got chains to break free from, some might just be prettier than others.”
So not only did this story have a sassy lead girl, a hot ass hero, it also held a mystery, a mystery that shocked me straight to the core. You must read this book!

I really liked and enjoyed this book and this series so far. The story ling and characters were very captivating and I just could not get enough of the story. I really liked the character of Elle and the fact that she stood her ground with Lord and made him work for it. Really like the authors writing style as well and cant wait to read more by her.

I loved Lord and Elle. This book is hot and intense. The anticipation kept me reading. No spoilers here, you need to read this book!
Lord will be your next book boyfriend for sure 💜

Lord's book, Hot Damn!
Not only does Meghan March write New Orleans like you're walking the streets of the city. She had now created the perfect alpha man with Lord, in Beneath These Chains, the third book of the Beneath series.
Lord is that big, dominant, intimidating and down right scary to most guy. He's also smart, sexy and has southern charm that could melt panties. Tattooed and all bad ass, lives on the wrong side of the tracks and people know not to mess with him. Lords past is not pretty, but all he went through truly made him into one hell of a man. If his body doesn't get you, his unconditional caring and his upmost respect for women will.
Elle is a woman who is not going to take no for an answer. Sassy, smart and cunning, Elle pushes her way into a world she knows little about. She's an independent woman who is trying to find freedom in her way. Her wit, sarcasm and being hard headed makes Elle one damn fine woman.
Meghan March takes her readers on a journey that will heal pain, face danger and play with ones mind. While watching chemistry ignite into passion, creating a bond in two people from opposite sides of the tracks. The book is over the top in hotness. From the perfect descriptions of the setting, to the dialogue between characters and of course, the intense ride of passion, Ms. March gives the romance reader just what they long for.

JavaGirl and Slick's Two-fer review
JAVAGIRL'S Review - 4 stars I liked this book. In fact, I liked it quite a lot. Elle and Lord were a great team; I thought they complemented each other well. I liked them individually and together. Their sexy times are plentiful and hot. However, there were times when I felt their relationship was built more around those sexy times, and less around them getting to know each other on a deeper level. I loved the first two books in this series, especially Beneath This Ink, so maybe my expectations were unrealistically high. I was disappointed that I didn’t get to know Lord better. What I did learn of him, I loved—his determination to succeed on his own, his commitment to giving back, his desire to find love like his brother, Con, had found, and the importance he placed on his relationship with his brother. But I felt like that was just scratching the surface of the man. I thought Elle’s character was a bit more developed, but there were a couple of details of her character that didn’t ring true to me, and felt like they were more of a plot device. We definitely do get to know her better, though; what drives her to work in Lord’s pawn shop, her family history and how it has shaped her and how her father’s death continues to have an impact on her life. Elle is smart, feisty, stubborn, and determined to live life on her own terms. I loved those traits in this character, but I also felt she gave in too easily when it came to Lord. I don’t like unnecessary drama and long-drawn out chases, but everything just came a little too quickly and easily in this story. In spite of this, I really did enjoy the book. Meghan March is a very talented writer, and she kept my attention and entertained me throughout this story.
SLICK'S Review - 4 Stars From the first book in this series I have been a huge fan of Meghan March. I love her sexy alpha heroes who underneath are good men, I love her sassy no nonsense heroines, I love her mix of drama, suspense and sexiness in her plots and I love her no nonsense writing style. I loved the hero and heroine in Beneath These Chains, their sexy times were undeniably hot but for me the "love connection" happened a little too quickly and parts of the story felt a little contrived. I liked Beneath These Chains but I didn't love it and for me it was not as satisfying after the two previous books in this series.
I was intrigued by Lord Robichaux in the last book and I'm happy to say that after getting to know him a little better he's a damn awesome man. Lord's childhood was less than stellar and he joined the Army instead of going to prison where he found his younger brother Con (from Beneath this Ink). Running Chains, a pawn shop he is buying from his brother Lord sees a lot of the underbelly of New Orleans so when society princess Elle Snyder walks in an demands a job, he knows two things; one she's there for a reason and two she tempts him like no other. I loved their flirting and their banter from the start and it was easy to see the heat between them. For being rough around the edges Lord was a stand up guy in regards to getting involved with Elle as he didn't want to upset his brother's relationship with Elle's best friend, Vanessa. The fact that Elle only wanted him for sex threw him and he was determined to change her mind. While I applaud Lord for knowing he wanted more, I felt that his decision to want more from her came very quickly and kind of out of nowhere considering how little they knew about one another and Elle's easy acceptance after being so adamant about not wanting a relationship seemed to come out of nowhere.
With gang members harassing Elle, two murders of people connected to her and Lord, and her mother and step-father's interference into her life and career choice these two had a lot of outside influences pushing them together and adding some drama to this story. I will admit I liked that there wasn't a lot of angst and relationship drama between them but I would have like to see them spend more time really getting to know each other better on more than a physical level. I will say sexually these two were completely compatible; these scenes were well written leaving no doubt how well they connected physically.
I enjoyed the sometimes crude but sexy Lord and the smart and sassy Elle and while parts of this story were disappointing there was still enough good in Beneath These Chains to keep my attention and keep me reading and I will continue to read this author's work because underneath it all, I still love her style.

I love this series, and even though this wasn’t my favorite in the series it was a great read. I love Meghan March’s writing style; she gives us great heroes and heroines, and a great mystery with each book.
If you have read book two you will remember this is where Lord and Elle were introduced. Lord is Con’s older brother and Elle is Vanessa’s bff. Elle is on the hunt for an item that was lost to her, so she decides the best way to find it is to work for Lord at his Pawn Shop. She won’t take no for an answer and bullies her way into the job. Lord doesn’t want her to work for him because it isn’t safe, and he is attracted to her. Of course Lord doesn’t stand a chance so he decides to let her work for him. In his mind he can keep her safe and take a chance at making her his. Elle isn’t interested in anything other than a one night stand and Lord wants more. It doesn’t take long for her to see the error in her ways and she can’t resist the temptation.
Elle and Lord had off the charts chemistry. I enjoyed the funny banter between them and Elle was hilarious. I loved the stuff she said to Lord but I really enjoyed her inner dialogue too. I think she is my favorite heroine in this series so far.
Instead of a scarlet letter, I had an invisible tattoo that said: I scream your name when I masturbate. Knowing Lord, he’d probably be totally cool with that. Elle
I was surprised that Lord wasn’t darker than he was; I was expecting more brood from him. He had several funny moments too and I loved that about him.
“Uh oh, you’ve got the bug now. Next thing you know, you’ll have thug life tatted on your knuckles— in pink.” I reached up and shoved at his shoulder. “Only if you get true love on yours in purple.”
As with all Ms. March’s books they are filled with lots of sexy time, and strong characters. Add to that we had a gangster that has his sights set on Elle, causing Lord’s protective instincts to shoot through the roof. There is a mystery to solve due several murders happening, and signs are pointing towards Lord. I was surprised discovering who the bad guy was but I do love a good mystery.
As with all books in this series you can read as a standalone. Characters from the other books do show up at times, but not enough to throw the story off or cause confusion.

Meghan March can do no wrong!!! I have read and LOVED ALL HER BOOKS!!!
Beneath These Chains is the third AMAZING book in the Beneath series. Ms. March creates intriguing, sassy and HOT characters that make me want to JUMP INTO THEIR WORLD!!! It should be said that you could read each book as a standalone BUT WHY OH WHY would you miss out on any of these amazing reads!!!
“Are you going to cooperate, or am I going to have to help you get there?”
Lord and Elle are more than opposites attract! Lord grew up on the streets and learned early on just how tough this world can be. Growing up, Elle wanted for nothing and nearly had the storybook childhood. That all was ripped from her during her freshman year of college and she has spent that last decade running from the pain.
“When it comes to you, I’m not counting on anything. You’re one curveball after another.”
Elle was looking for something and she just KNEW it would find it's way to Chains. SOOOO she did the only logical thing... she walked in at the right time and "took" the sales clerk position. With good reason, Lord thought this was a TERRIBLE idea and fought her tooth and nail. At times I would laugh out loud at their priceless banter!!!
“All talk, so far… sure hope your skills are up to par, pawn star.”
OH but it was their chemistry that sealed the deal for me... PERFECTION!!!
This man was wild, untamed- seemingly fearless- and yet his body jumped when I touched him. That was insanely seductive.
AND ELLE’S SASS!!!
Trust me, I'm not looking for anyone to chase me. In fact, the chase is decidedly unwelcome." She jerked her head to the side, flipping a lock of that sexy-as-fuck red hair out of her face. "I'm the kind of girl who does the chasing herself. I see what I want, and I get it.
True to Ms. March’s style she gives us much more than just a sexy love story. The plot had a few twists that totally shocked me and in the end I was literally left speechless! I highly recommend the entire Beneath series!!! I truly hope you grab any one of these amazing reads because I know you will devour it!!! Totally drooling for Lucas Titan's story, Beneath These Scars (releasing later this year).
Rating: 4.5 stars (Standalone; Alt POV)

I was so excited for this book! Lord had me intrigued in Con's book, Beneath This Ink. I knew he was going to be intense and I wasn't wrong! Lord is an APLHA machine!! Elle drops into his life like a well dressed red headed bomb! He may have fought his attraction to Elle at first but when push came to shove he couldn't resist her for long.
Elle had two reasons for walking into Chains Pawn Shop, have a fun one night stand with Lord and hopefully find something that is very dear to her. What she found was a man that didn't give into her charms and was a little too bossy for her tastes...maybe..
When people start dying around Lord and Elle, Lord decides that Elle is more important to him then he first thought, but can he keep her safe?
I LOVED Elle's spitfire personality! She was the girl that knew what she wanted, went for it, and let everyone know about it! The connection between Lord and Elle was undeniable and OFF the CHARTS STEAMY!! So far my favorite couple in this series!!

This man was wild, untamed- seemingly fearless- and yet his body jumped when I touched him. That was insanely seductive."
Lord, oh Lord but I loved me some Lord. Where has this author been all my life with her deliciously sexy alphas? Because if the other 2 books were anything like this, then my method of reading things back asswards has seriously backfired on me and I missed out on 2 amazing books that I have every intention of going back and reading now. Beneath These Chains is easily read as a standalone, since I clearly read it as one. However, there were characters from previous books that I clearly missed out on the backstory on that I'd love to now get. But that never took away from my enjoyment of this book since the author did a fantastic job of giving perfect amount of backstory so the reader doesn't feel lost.
What did this book have?
An incredibly sexy, tatted up alpha hero
A bad boy that runs a pawn shop called chains, Lord hasn't exactly had an easy life. Raised on the streets, he's had to fight for everything he's got. When a tempting redhead comes into his shop demanding a job, he knows she must be joking. Elle is a rich girl and has no business doing anything on his side of the town. The fact that she happens to be the best friend of his brother's girlfriend also means she's off limits. Too bad she tempts him like not other.
A sassy, knows what she wants heroine Trust me, I'm not looking for anyone to chase me. In fact, the chase is decidedly unwelcome." She jerked her head to the side, flipping a lock of that sexy-as-fuck red hair out of her face. "I'm the kind of girl who does the chasing herself. I see what I want, and I get it.
I ask you, how often do you find THAT?
Elle needs the job at chains for reasons that she's not willing to share. She's also incredibly attracted to it's brooding, tatted and potty-mouthed owner. But watching her mother withdraw into herself and turn to the bottom of a bottle because of a domineering asshole that is her stepfather, she has no desire to give herself like that to a man. She's find with one night and slaking some lust? But a relationship? She can't give up her independence for it and she's convinced that that's exactly what would happen if she gives herself to a man.
A man determined to get the woman he needs and treat her the way she deserves to be treated
While you'd expect this to be another case of sexy asshole syndrome, Lord was nothing of the sort. He won't fuck with Elle because he doesn't want that reflecting on his brother's relationship if something was to go wrong. And since his brother is dating Elle's best friend, Vannessa, he knows he has to tread carefully. But when he decides that what he wants is Elle and not just for one night, he systematically begins to wear her down. And he doesn't do this by being an overbearing asshole. Nope. he does this by demanding a date and showing her the way that she deserves to be treated.
You should be going to your knees for me, woman. You shouldn't be going to your knees for any man."
"But-"
"You want to suck my dick, you do it while you're kneeling above me. I don't ever want to see you on the ground on your knees."
"But you did it for me." I protested.
"Because you deserve to be worshipped."
No relationship drama
How refreshing was THAT? Once Lord finally wears Elle down and forces her to see how great they are together, there's no pity arguments, stupid misunderstandings, or manufactured drama. That's not to say that their relationship is smooth sailing because there's also the added element of suspense in the plot, but their relationship only strengthens through it.
An interesting and suspenseful plot
Just made this even more fun of a read. There's murders, Elle's asshole father and stepbrother, and all of it ties together flawlessly with the romance.
In short, I seriously enjoyed this book. Lord is just the right amount of crude with a dash of sweet. I absolutely loved that about him. It's so refreshing to have a hero that actually wants a relationship and proves that to the heroine. The super hawt sex scenes certainly didn't hurt either.
I'm kicking myself for not discovering this series sooner but I have definitely found myself a new author to love and a new series to read.

Lord definitely had his hands full with his new employee Elle. They couldn't be from more different worlds, but collide when those worlds intersect because of those they love. She comes into his place demanding that he hire her and she most certainly has the knowledge and skill to work there. She has another reason for wanting the job and it will take some time to get that out of her. In the mean time he fights his attraction to her while she eggs it on constantly. I was so glad to see him give in because they are scorching hot together and he is one fine naughty talker. Along with navigating what is happening between them, there is also a gang leader that's taken notice of Elle. Then there's the serial killer on the loose. This story was fantastic. I loved Elle and Oh.My.Lord. together.
I give Beneath These Chains 5 hearts!

Beneath These Chains is book number three in one of my favorite series this year, Beneath, and suffice it to say that author Meghan March continues to bring the romance and steam along with the underlying humor and not overly angsty drama that the two previous books are known for. I’m going to be honest and confess that when I was asked whether I wanted Lord Robichaux or Lucas Titan to be the male lead character for the third book, I went with Lucas. After reading the love story belonging to Lord Robichaux and Elle Snyder, I’m glad that his got told first because it does make better sense, especially since he’s the brother of Con Leahy, male lead character from the second book, Beneath This Ink. Of course, I am now patiently (cough, cough) awaiting the release of Lucas’s story, especially since he seriously got my attention in book two and needs his own brand of happily-ever-after.
Lord and Elle’s love story is one that’s filled with laughter and its fair share of tears. Add in a murder mystery that needs to be solved, lest one of them ends up having the visit the other in prison for a fair length of time. Their families are certainly nothing Norman Rockwell would crow about, but the few friends they both have are those that they’re able to turn to and know that they’re there no matter what. I really liked that Lord was nothing like I expected and there was just no way you couldn’t fall in love with him. He wanted Elle to break from the chains of her past, needing her to take a risk on having a forever after with him. Having Lord by her side allowed Elle to realize that she could maintain control of her life even as she shared it with someone who loved and respected her, looking beyond the pretty packaging on the outside to accept everything that was on the inside. Oh Lordy-lord, these two were fun, sexy, sweet, and all heart.
The murder mystery part of the book was a thrill to get through. I had one suspect only to realize it couldn’t possibly be him and then I had another one but then it became more than obvious it wasn’t him either. I guess the third time’s really the charm because I was proven right but the reasons behind the murders floored me and broke my heart. I don’t relish being wrong, what more admitting it, but when a story is this good and can run circles around my very amateurish sleuthing skills (Veronica Mars I am not), I’ll give credit where it’s due, especially since I tend to get it right the first time around.
Meghan March solidified my fangirl status with this third installment in her Beneath series and while I know book four will be about Lucas Titan, I find myself wondering who he’ll be partnered with. Could it be Yve, the manager of Dirty Dog and Elle’s friend and someone who seems to have a painful past of her own? Then, because I can’t get enough of this series, I can’t help but keep my fingers crossed that Hennessy, a police detective from both books two and three, will get his story told as well. Oooh! Maybe Hennessy and Yve, since they’ve got the whole detective and girl with an ex with a criminal past going on. Well, whatever future plans Meghan has for this series, you can be sure that I’ll be waiting with bated breath. Heck, I’ll read anything she writes! Fangirl, remember? Beneath These Chains can be read as a standalone but I’m going to highly recommend that you read each of the books in the series because they’re too good for you not to! I’m giving this third book five-plus stars. ♥♥♥

As a reader who goes through book boyfriends like Kleenex I finally found one that will be hard to forget courtesy of Ms. March! Lord, oh Lord, is he one sexy tatted-up pseudo-bad boy! He grew up in a world of rough people and rougher circumstances. Everything he's gotten in life he's had to work for or fight for. It's all left him a bit untrusting and a whole lot of jaded. Behind his gruffness though beats the heart of a loyal and caring man and it all adds up to one drool-worthy package. The day he fires a worker for stealing changes his life irrevocably as rich girl Elle walks through the door demanding a job. He's always been attracted to her but doesn't want to ruin his connection to his brother by lovin' and leavin' the best friend of his brother's girlfriend. With her so close every day, and danger coming ever closer to his front door, he can't help but give in to the temptation though. He's not interested in a one-night stand like most bad boys, but instead sets out to woo her in a sensual battle of wills that had me falling for him with every turn of the page. He's sexy but sweet, caring and willing to fight for those he cares for. His interactions with troubled teen Mathieu especially shows off his caring side. His interactions with Elle are scorching and ultimately lead to lots of steamy encounters that are sensual and playful. From start to finish he completely owned me.
Elle's the stereotypical rich girl living large and trying to find a way to annoy her parents. Working at the pawn shop Chains seems like just the thing to annoy her family and gives her the extra joy of flirting with a truly sexy and compelling bad boy. She's not ready for a commitment-minded Lord though as she's just looking for fun. After seeing her mother become controlled by her step-father and seek refuge in alcohol, she wants no part of belonging to another. It's a merry chase she gets led on though by the determined Lord that finally has her caving in a richly rewarding way. When a battle between gangs, and a return of her past, collide she'll need Lord's strength more than ever. Elle's a strong-willed character who gives as good as she gets. She tells it like it is and fights for what she wants. For so long she's been judged on a superficial level but Lord shows her her true worth in some very sexy ways. When danger rears its ugly head her and Lord make a formidable team as their sexual connection solidifies into something stronger.
From the first page to the last readers are taken on a sensual and suspenseful journey where the danger and romance are perfectly balanced. Lord is delectable and Elle his spunky temptation. Their first meeting is electric with every encounter thereafter crackling with sensuality and flirty banter. The side character of Mathieu brings wonderful humor to the story too and I long to see more of him. My only issue is the lack of deep talks and moments where Lord and Elle could find out more about each other. Their sexual connection is obvious but I wanted more. Ultimately though, readers looking for an exciting and sexy thrill ride, with no angst or big misunderstandings, will want to add this deliciously decadent book to their bookshelf.

This is my first book by Meghan March and it was a pleasure to read. This is a book of hotness, quirky characters with depth and a great storyline.
Elle is a rich women but she's not living an entitled life. She's living for adventure and with a mission to achieve. She seeks a job in a pawn shop in search of her late Father's lost and treasured watch. She strolls into Chains, Lord's domain and she's completely out of place. Elle won't take no for an answer on the job front and they end up rubbing along together. Desire is crackling, people are getting killed and family test everything.
I devoured the book and although Elle and Lord has a quick connection, it was believable and I could invest in it. I am dying to go back and read the other books note but they standalone well.
I was provided with a copy of this book by the publisher in return for an honest review.

This book was truly amazing, I loved lord and Elle's relationship. Elle was snarky, and had an amazing take no shit attitude! lord, while a bad ass, was super sweet and caring. The twists in the book I never saw coming. .

This book 3 in the series and I must admit I haven't read the first two. This is a stand alone but I am going to read the first two because I really enjoyed this one. I am a sucker for alpha males...and Lord is definitely that. This is a sexy story with a bit of dirty talk.....well maybe a lot of dirty talk..... and a bit of mystery thrown in. This is my first Meghan March book....but definitely not my last.

I was thrilled to find Beneath These Chains on NetGalley! (And even more thrilled when the author/publisher accepted my request.)
Based on previous ebook purchases, Amazon kept recommending Beneath This Ink to me. But, as most readers know, you can’t always trust a sexy cover (and these are definitely sexy). Thus, reading Beneath These Chains was a great way to try new-to-me author Meghan March’s writing on for size. Suffice it to say, it “fits.”
BTC combines a number of my favorite elements:
• a strong heroine
• an hero who knows what he wants
• enough drama to keep things interesting + a surprising plot twist
I really enjoyed both main characters: The hero (Lord) is a sexy, protective alpha who isn’t intimidated by the heroine’s independence. At the outset of the novel, he’s already reached a stage in his life where he wants more than a no-strings-attached physical relationship. I respect him for not budging in that regard—even when confronted with sexy-as-sin Elle.
"She was the kind of woman a man was meant to savor, not rush through. Whatever reservations she had about dating could be overcome."
What I liked most about Elle was her backbone. She refuses to engage with the toxic people in her life, electing instead to stand up for herself and what she’s passionate about. Our heroine may be stubborn and bold, but what she isn’t? Looking for a relationship.
“Because I’m female I have to want a relationship with my sex? I can’t just have fun and call it a night?”
However, she did NOT frustrate me (as heroines of that persuasion are wont to do). She makes significant strides throughout the book, displaying maturity and good decision-making in the face of some difficult situations.
In addition to the romance angle, there’s a bit of a mystery involved as well. Lord’s neighborhood is a dangerous one, rife with gang activity, theft, and violence. A crime spree keeps the main characters (and thereby readers) on their toes.
When it comes down to it, I can’t think of anything negative to say about this one. Beneath These Chains comprises great writing (writing that goes beyond just being error-free), likeable characters, and a storyline that will keep readers engaged and interested. In addition to those characteristics, I found the novel to be well-paced (meaning that it didn’t drag in any spots, or feel rushed).
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to purchase (and read) copies of Beneath This Mask and Beneath This Ink!

Received from Rockstar PR as part of the FOSTY program in exchange for a honest review.
When I began this series by Meghan March I was not sure what to expect. Con got me hooked in the last book and I thought he couldn’t be beat by lord have mercy his older brother Lord proved me wrong. What I loved most about Lord is his protectiveness, his loyalty, his desire to help others and keep them from going down the road he went down and his not wanting to make Elle feel trapped by showing her she can be independent and still have love in her life.
Lord was one sexy, stubborn man but he was also a cupcake on the inside. He had that tough as nails exterior but was there for you when you needed it. He knew when you needed a shoulder to lean on, when you needed open arms to fall in and a ear to listen to you with. He was everything for so many.
For his brother he was his confidante and best friend. For Mathieu he was family and the way Mathieu was tears you up in the end. Really so so sad. For Hennessey the detective he was a informant and one he knew would give things to him straight up. For Elle he was her world. He showed her that you can trust someone and lean on them for help and understanding. That love doesn’t come with conditions and to control you. That you can love and be independent and yourself. She learns the difference between protectiveness, dominance and control and how they can be seen in different ways without taking away your identity.
Elle taught Lord that he doesn’t have to take on the burden of everyone and feel guilty when things don’t go as hoped. She teaches him to love and open up to someone. She teaches him to lean on someone and have a equal in life.
They work together and help each other find where they belong and how they fit in each others lives.
The story of the murders adds a air of tension and mystery to the story for it creates a danger that brings about Lord’s protective side more. The story is passionate and fun with the sass from Elle. Sweet with how Lord is there for Elle and helps her through some tough times. Sexy with how the sexual tension builds and their playfulness about it and when they finally come together wow. This is a character driven plot that unfolds in layers and brings a passion and intimacy to it as we learn the characters what drives them and how they find each other and love. The title is apt for it goes with the way each character is tied by chains of guilt and burdens keeping them from being whole and free. As the chains are unburdened burdens are lifted, freedom is felt and new beginnings come about as well as love.

My thoughts:
This is the first book I have read by this author. I didn't know going in that it is part of a series, so I thought it stood well on its own as a stand alone . After devouring this book, I am on the hunt for the first two books, Beneath This Mask and Beneath This Ink because I love bad boy stories. Who doesn't? In Beneath These Chains, Lord owns a pawn shop and knows he is in trouble when Elle walks in demanding to be hired. He can't resist her and tried to do what he can to make her his.
I loved these two together. I swear, Lord just took up a spot on my book boyfriend list. He's an alpha male at its finest, but he was also very good to Elle in helping her feel in control when she needed to be. I loved these two together and their bed room scenes just sizzled off the page! One of the best parts is the story of how Lord got his name. I couldn't stop giggling at that one!
There is a little mystery in the book. Someone is killing off people who have wronged these two in some way. I didn't see the resolution coming, which was a bonus, But, I was a bit sad at the solution. Read it and you'll understand. -Kari

You know I love a good book set in Nola and Meghan March has given me THREE good books set in Nola! The third book in this series, Beneath These Chains is about Con's brother, Lord, and Vanessa's friend, Elle, and I have to say this one is the sweetest one of the bunch, I think. With the first two books in this series there was a lot of heart-racing angst, and while there is definitely some push and pull in this book, I found it to really be low angst, high heat, and I really enjoyed the sweetness between Lord and Elle.
A running theme in all three books in this series seems to be about characters lacking trust in others; at least one of the main characters in each book has been so badly burned by an important person in their lives that they have a hard time being open and vulnerable enough to let a potential love interest get close. All of them resist, initially, the idea of anything more than a fun or casual relationship with their alpha male but as we all know, resistance is futile. The thing that I think I liked about Lord and Elle's story is that both Lord and Elle knew when to be stubborn and when to give in. Both of them were good at reading the signals of the other, both tried to be respectful of the other, and the bullshit that you might expect in a modern day romance was at an all time low (and I really appreciated it!). I liked that even though Elle was freaked at the idea of a serious relationship with Lord, she gave him a chance (to be fair, his alpha-ness wouldn't have it any other way) and was honest every step of the way.
This book is part of a series but you can read it without having read the others. So if you like a strong woman who refuses to be slut-shamed, a very alpha male, hot sex scenes, and enduring kindness seen in both characters...all set in Nola, I highly suggest this book.

The Bottom Line A simple yet enjoyable read, I’d recommend it for those who don’t mind younger H/h and like a hot yet sweet Alpha hero. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

Beneath These Chains was such a good read.
I was intrigued from the beginning to end. Loved the complexity of the characters and the chemistry between Lord and Elle was HOT!
Beneath These Chains is the third book from the Beneath series but each book can be read as a standalone. Highly recommend this book.
Thank you Netgalley and Meghan March for the advance copy.

A gritty, erotic romance between a H/h who are from different worlds. I loved Lord and Elle as a couple. I am going to have to read the first book in this series, March definitely brought the goods in this story. I loved all the sass and banter too.

5 Stars!
I loved this book. Another great addition to this amazing series and definitely a favorite. This book was super intense, edgy, sexy, sweet, and a touch of suspense along the way. This book is a true standalone though there is a character crossovers. Told in dual POV, get ready to take a sinfully sexy ride with Elle and Lord. This is the kind of book that will stay with you long after it's over.
This is Lord and Elle's story. When Elle walks into Lord's pawn shop and demands a job, he doesnt know if he wants to bend her over the counter and possibly spank her or throw her out and take her home. Elle has her reasons as to why she wants a job. She may be rich and refined, but she is also real. Elle and Lord want each other. He wants the man-eater to commit to giving him a chance. Throw in some suspense with this sexy love story and you have one hell of a story.
I loved Lord. He was so sexy, alpha, demanding, possessive, and protective but her also had a good heart. And he wanted the sassy, full of fire, and days of curves. Elle. I also loved Elle. From the beginning, she gave Lord a run for his money. You could see them falling in love and we all knew it was inevitable no matter how much resistance was given by them.
I highly recommend this book.

Court: I LOVED this one, and exactly for why you said. These two aren't even really acquaintances, but it was somewhat of a change of pace because of Elle...and her unorthodox ways or getting a job, and pushing into even the smallest wedge of where she wants to be. I have liked Lord's presence in this series, and these two definitely continue the tradition of a strong alpha hero getting knocked down by a strong independent woman.
Shel: A running theme in all three books in this series seems to be about characters lacking trust in others; at least one of the main characters in each book has been so badly burned by an important person in their lives that they have a hard time being open and vulnerable enough to let a potential love interest get close. I really love the dynamic that they fall into, and just really enjoyed the story. The dialogue was tight, the pace was swift, but solid (we were given the information we needed to know, when we needed to know it!) and the writing was beautiful, fun, and showed us this world we love from the angle of Lord and Elle. I love these two, and I love Lord even more. He's the best type of hero that we love. I definitely wish I could read this one for the first time again.
Shel: This book is part of a series but you can read it without having read the others. So if you like a strong woman who refuses to be slut-shamed, a very alpha male, hot sex scenes, and enduring kindness seen in both characters...all set in Nola, I highly suggest this book. Court:

Obligations…
Controlling Parents…
Horrible Childhood…
Everyone has chains to break free from; forces beyond their control that define who they are and what people feel they deserve.
Lord Robichaux and Elle Snyder may come from different sides of the tracks, but they’re both contending with shackles that weigh them down and one part of that weight comes from preconceptions.
The tatted pawnstore alpha male owner and the gorgeous rich girl are an unlikely pair, but they couldn’t fit better together. Lord and Elle’s banter and chemistry sizzle from the beginning of the text until the end, allowing readers to be invested in their developing relationship right from the start. Their connection may have been a bit insta love, but it does take awhile for Lord to wear Elle down and make her realize they’re more than a passing fling.
Added into the romance and steam of Beneath These Chains is mystery and suspense; this side of the story didn’t distract from its dynamic; in fact, it made it that more intriguing. I do have to admit, though, that the identification of the culprit bewildered me and didn’t fit, but that could simply be because I was blindsided by who it was and the reasons behind it.
Lord and Elle are great characters who complement each other well with their personalities. Lord may seem harsh and crass on the outside, but Elle brings out his softer, protective side, and he’ll do anything to make sure she’s safe and his. I loved Elle; she’s feisty and independent and gives as good as she gets. She’s definitely more than what her outside appearance signifies, which makes her a multifaceted character who readers will love.
I really enjoyed Lord and Elle’s story. This was my first read by Meghan March, but it definitely will not be my last. She’s a great storyteller who knows how to mesh romance and suspense well and her characters are diverse and entertaining.

4 poison apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)

Elle shows up at Lord’s pawn shop demanding a job. Lord know she will be getting more than just a job if he hires her but eventually she gets what she wants and so does he. I enjoyed the story, I love the chemistry between Elle and Lord and the sex is hot. Great Read!

Lord Oh Lord! Yes that came out of my mouth a few times while reading this book! As well as OMFG! Lord is the kind of guy that you don’t want to meet in a dark alley, but you want him to take you home and show you what he has under all that sexiness. He is the strong Alpha male that isn’t looking for love, but when she storms into his shop, he has no chance in H*LL at avoiding it.
Ellie is on a mission that we do not really know about until well into the book. She is using the pawnshop for her own personal gain but no one really knows it. She is also the strong, take no shit kind of woman that is bound to bring or find trouble wherever she goes. And that is just what happens when the leader of the local gang sets his sites on her.
When people start showing up dead, things start getting real, the thing is that Meghan March is good at keeping it all a secret until the end… and of course, so will I. Let’s just say all of the people that give Ellie crap in her life or a hard time… end up with bullets in the back! Strange…. Nah!
This is such a good read, I could not put it down until it was done, and then I wanted more! I was sitting there wishing I had read it slower because I didn’t want it to be over. Great job with this one Ms. March!
This can be read as a standalone, but I highly suggest that you get the others in the series too! They are really really really good!!!

I have enjoyed all three of these books and I'm looking forward to reading Beneath these scars! Lord was a mix of all the wonderful things an alpha male can be. Elle was innocent, but confident. I loved them as a couple.

I first heard of Meghan March from an author friend and I one clicked her debut book. Time went by and I still had not read this book. Then I met Meghan at the Austin Book Fest and she was so sweet and I knew I needed to dive in. Well I have finally read one of her books too many months later and I wanted to smack myself for taking so long. BENEATH THESE CHAINS was the book to break me into Meghan’s fantastic writing world and I loved it! The characters were spectacular, the themes and situations perfect. This woman has just been added to my must watch list!
Lord and Elle are wonderful. I have read a lot of books but there was something that had the ability to draw me in and keep me begging for more. This story has everything. It is suspenseful, sexy, and fun. Lord is a perfect bad boy book boyfriend to add to my ever growing collection and Elle is the fabulous witty heroine who snags his attention. I loved these two characters and how they interacted. It was funny and smart. There were moments of heartfelt emotion, as well as many moments of swooning and blushing! Their chemistry was tangible and their story was wonderful.
The themes in this story are great. I loved seeing families that clicked and friends that stood by each other. There were broken relationships and new beginnings. There was life, love, and passion woven within each chapter of this story. We entered the world that Lord inhabits right alongside Elle and it was impossible not to fall in love and lust with everything happening. The emotion is provocative and the passions is enough to set you on fire. The relationships are genuine and the friendships are strong. I loved watching different worlds collide and how they brought a tangible story to the reader.
I have sufficiently chastised myself for not having read the first two books ye,t and I am planning a weekend reading binge to fall in love with all of Meghan’s other leading men! This book can be read as a standalone but I am sure it would have been even more epic when reading it in order. Lord oh Lord, this is a book that you will not want to miss! Make sure to check out BENEATH THESE CHAINS and get ready to forget your responsibilites and fall in love with this story!

Lord owns a pawn shop and he thinks he is doing pretty well but he is losing money. He finds out that the girl who is working the front is also stealing from him, so he fires her and it ends up being a scene in front of the store. Ellie now comes in the picture and Lord does not want to hire her but she won’t leave and because of her stubbornness she also tells Lord that a lot of his items are priced far too low and she proves it. After he looks up the items and sees that she is right he still does not want to hire her because someone like her rich and beautiful does not belong in that neighborhood. She does not back down and so this part of the story is set. Then you have the gangster who runs part of that hood who wants her as one of his but Lord says she is his and they have to make it look like they are a couple. He finds out after a while why she is their because she is looking for her father’s watch who her mother gave to her step brother that her mother married his father just a few months after her father’s death. He traded the watch for drugs. While this is going on the girl he fired turns up dead and then a few days later after a guy pins Ellie on street right before Lord gets there he also turns up dead. The police are looking at Lord and now he must clear himself and her plus look for her watch and then you have her mother who has been drinking since her new marriage and the step father also giving her hassle. With all of this they also find out that they are attracted to each other but must get everything cleared up so they can have a relationship. When you are getting to the end there are some twists and turns that make the a little better and Ellie also gets past a couple of her fears. This all makes for a good book and a good story. I really liked this book.

Beneath These Chains was an entertaining read, it had a little bit of everything; sex, sass and a little suspense. They each had their own demons to fight and lessons to learn, and together they make it all happen. Elle is a smart woman who is just a little lost, she dishes out a mouthful of sass and sexiness, sometimes a little too much for her own good. Lord is possessive and protective, from the very beginning his need to keep her safe nearly drove him insane. I enjoyed what I read, just wished I could love it even more... for me it was more a book to read, sure it was entertaining but it didn't draw me in to live each page with them. Regardless of that, I'm sure many would love this for Lord alone, because he is a man who knows how to worship his lady ;)

Copy courtesy of Netgalley I read the first book and really liked it. I missed the second but I was able to read this one and not be lost. Even though the 2nd and 3rd book have overlapping characters. It can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed this book. I was hooked from page one. I loved the sassiest of Elle. I love strong female leads and she fit the bill. She did not back down from Lord's bossiness unless it suited her needs. Lord was an alpha male with a soft heart. They were very good together. The story moves pretty fast but you can see the attraction between the two. There is romance, mystery and drama. There are a couple of twists. I think the author is doing a good job with this series. I look forwRd to reading more.

I was introduced to Meghan March when I read the first book in her Beneath series. I missed out on reading books 2 and 3 when they became available, but was fortunate to catch up on the series when I had the chance of reading Beneath These Scars. After reading this title I knew that I had to complete the series, hence my decision to read Beneath These Chains.
Like the other books in the series that I have read so far the story was told from a dual POV. I enjoyed reading stories written in this format as I believe it gives readers the chance to know what the characters are thinking and feeling.
Beneath The Chains, the third book in the series focuses on Lord Robichaux and Elle Synder. Lord is a former soldier who currently operates a pawn shop called chains. He had a rough life growing up; however, he was able to turn the negatives of his past into something positive for the future. Elle is sassy, feisty and independent. She is not afraid to go after what she wants, which is evident when she decided that she wanted a job at Chains.
Lord and Elle were an explosive combination. They brought the best out in each other. In spite of his bad boy persona Lord was the perfect gentleman. He treated women with the greatest respect. This trait was evident in his interaction with Elle.
“You shouldn’t be going to your knees for me, woman. You shouldn’t be going to your knees for any man.”
Initially Lord was wary of giving into his attraction to Elle. It was his belief that he was no good for her in light of their different backgrounds. He realized that Elle was the type of woman that should be wooed and treated like the lady she was. Elle was more interested in a short term fling. Elle’s biggest fear was that she would end up like her mom and as such she was not willing to commit to a permanent relationship. Will Lord be able to convince her otherwise? Elle was still trying to come to grips with the loss of her dad and what she believes was her mother’s betrayal. Will she be able to move past the pain, hurt and isolation caused by her father’s death? What I liked most about Elle was her independence, maturity and her ability to make good decisions. She was the epitome of a strong female.
There was some amount mystery incorporated into the story. This added an element of danger to the story, which made Lord even more protective of Elle. Chains is located in a neighbourhood that’s riddled with gang activity, theft and violence. The revelation of the villain took me by surprise as honestly, I never for a moment suspected that individual.
I enjoyed this installment, maybe not as much as I did book 1 and 2 but it was still an awesome story. The writing was good, the characters were three dimensional and the plot was engaging. I was hooked from the first page and my interest never wavered for a moment. The story was well paced as such there was never a dull moment.
If you are looking for a story that is hot, sexy and have an element of suspense then give this series a chance. I am sure it would be worth your while.

Boy do I love Meghan March's male characters! She writes them with the perfect amount of alpha. It's a total toss up between Lord and Con at this point. They are both are big, handsome, broken men that found a good woman to complete them. Love!
We got a sneak peek of Lord in Con's book (Beneath This Ink) and now it's his turn to shine. Running the pawnshop Chains and a small restoration business on the side, Lord hardly has time for a woman in his life. Then Elle walks through his door looking for a job. She is a curvy, sassy chick that can give him a run for his money.
"This is the game of life sweet thing. No time outs until you're done breathin'." ~ Lord
Short and sweet is how Lord operates. He knows of Elle from Vanessa, Con's woman, so he also knows the girl carries some baggage with her. Just like him. Elle ends up with the job and so much more as the weeks go by. Lord isn't anything she thought he was. In fact, he is something she never really realized she wanted.
"We won't put a label on it if that's gonna scare you off, but you need to know I'm staking my claim. You're mine." ~ Lord
Swoon! Although the line got me, it scares the crap out of Elle because she never wants to end up like her mother, dependant on a man. Lucky for her Lord isn't looking for that, he wants an equal. While they are trying this relationship thing, Elle still has to deal with her messed up family life and Lord has some problems on the street that are now coming back to him.
For the third book in the series Meghan March has kept it as sexy and suspenseful as the first. I like that both of her main characters are broken and help fix each other. The book is written in dual points of view that keep the story moving forward and is an excellent addition to the Beneath Series.

This story was filled with mystery, action, sexual tension, and tender love. I absolutely could not put this book down until I read the very last word of the very last page. Meghan March has a way of writing that makes me forget that I’m reading a book because I can see everything happening right in front of my eyes. Her characters are raw, honest, and unapologetic.
We finally get Con’s brother Lord’s HEA that is filled with drama and a soft side to the pawn shop owner that I didn’t see coming. He is one protective alpha male that surprisingly does not want to control Elle, but to make her acknowledge and strive for her best self. That is, as long as she’s not putting herself in danger and allows him to give her multiple orgasms whenever the urge strikes.
Then we have Elle. She’s a blunt and funny woman who says what’s on her mind because somewhere along the way she lost her filter and we thank her for it! Her ability to constantly surprise Lord and keep a smile on his face with the things she says and does was adorable and had me smiling and giggling.
Overall, Beneath These Chains was a fabulous contemporary romance with a dash of mystery and violence thrown into the mix. You never know what’s going to go down in NOLA and March proves this with her third installment in her Beneath series. I cannot wait to keep reading more of this series. I have no clue what to expect and I know March is going to throw a curveball at us just to keep us on our toes!
