Description

In his book, "Kulture Klash: An Allegory, Changing the Culture in the Corporate Workplace, Terry Barber uses an ancient site as a battlefield for the modern day confrontation between the good and evil of a hostile takeover in the corporate workplace. It is an allegory that is brilliantly presented for today's leaders and followers who struggle in their job of trying to make their companies and lives relevant. Barber highlights three groups of combatants: King Klash, the Enigmatic Emperor, the bad guys in the office, The Troublemakers consisting of The Blamegamers, The Clockwatchers, The Cornercutters and worst of all, The Insidions; and the good guys, the Remnant, The Inspirators, The Encouragamentors, The Creativists, The Integrists and the Passionates who follow their conscience and not corporate politics.

As the battle approaches with a fatal hostile takeover imminent, we see the issues plaguing most corporations today and why many of them have failed to reach their potential. Barber deftly moves the players around like a six thousand old chess game, readily recognizable in today's corporate world.

Kulture Klash is not just a fun read, it is loaded with philosophical, inspirational and practical principles that apply to today's corporate issues and relationships. Barber has just invented a creative way of making the problems and solutions clear for the 21st Century employer and employees by bringing in the character pillars of the past to build a foundational future for success today. It is easy to read, entertaining in its texture and has a wonderful ending, one that any corporate leader or employee would be happy to experience.

Advance Praise

“Few books are both fun to read and at the same time challenge the reader to think. Every chapter of Kulture Klash gives the reader something to think about regarding how we let our workplace culture drift downward or grow in a healthy way. Terry Barber does an excellent job reminding us of what is truly important as we build our firms.”
~Ray V. Padrón, Managing Partner, Brightworth

“I have known Terry Barber for years and admired his thinking more and more each year. His insights into both corporate culture and how communities work are vivid in this allegory, Kulture Klash. Terry has an imaginative way of revealing the realities of organizational conflict and the principles that shape those cultures. This is a fun read. When you read these pages, you will both enjoy the narrative [and] learn the art of changing organizational culture. I recommend this allegory highly.”
~Tim Elmore, President, Growing Leaders

"In a highly creative way, Terry illustrates the forces at play in the workplace ... forces that impact every organization. A great read with some thought-provoking questions to consider as you navigate this allegory.”
~Bryan Miles, CEO of eaHELP

“In this tale of kings, tribes, troublemakers, fire starters, and others who play a part in any territory, author and consultant Terry Barber lays out an imaginative tale of how to deal with not only a hostile takeover, but infighting in the royal court.

“Whether it’s the poison pill or the White Knight, every CEO must be aware of strategies, and possible allies to call upon when situations become dire.

“As Barber poses in the last question of his book, who is yours?

“Kulture Klash is an entertaining and all-too-true look at how cul- ture can be shaped, and misshaped, with multiple and long-lasting consequences.”
~Laurie Beth Jones, author of Jesus, CEO and The Path: Creating Your Mission for Work and Life

“Kulture Klash accomplishes the difficult task of painting a story about the varied personalities that exist in an organization and the interplay between them. By delivering this message through an allegory versus more typical business language, Terry succeeds in helping us all think outside the box and acknowledge the per- sonalities for what they are. In an increasingly complex global business environment, with personalities that span generations, geographies, and languages, an understanding of how to inspire and drive creativity among teams requires an understanding of the [individual] person and his or her personality, not just what [that person does]. I highly recommend this to any business leader who is seeking to increase his or her emotional intelligence and better serve his or her teams.”
~Chad Osgood, CEO, Premier Logic

“Kulture Klash is a clever allegory on corporate politics and the world of hostile takeovers, poison pills, and white knights. The story format allows complex areas of corporate politics, ruthless competition, and warring internal factions to be considered and effectively discussed. Kulture Klash is a perfect pre-read for a man- agement gathering to discuss internal and external threats, and also a great read for any CEO or senior leader contemplating his or her role in effectively leading a company in challenging competitive circumstances.”
~Mike Osorio, Region President Americas/Pacific Islands/Japan, DFS Group

“Terry has always been someone whom I respect and admire for his integrity and intellect. Both are on display with this powerful allegory, which is a timely and timeless look at what sage leader- ship requires and how to foster a healthy culture. The discussion questions at the end are a superb exercise for any team wanting to get better and move their business forward more impactfully. All in all, this is a creatively insightful piece of writing for today’s corporate challenges and opportunities. Well done, Terry. ”
~Glen Jackson, Co-Owner, Jackson Spalding

“Terry’s book on culture is so practical it seems simplistic. I’ve found, though, that common sense is rarely common practice. In addition to sage, prescriptive advice, Terry shows the importance of self-reflection with a good hard look in the mirror—to learn lessons and understand what you contribute to a creative, effective, agile, and successful culture. This book is a great conversation starter for healthy cultures as well as for those who can’t seem to get out of their own way.”
~Jane Gentry, Principal, Jane Gentry & Company
