Description
Tessa is enjoying life as a librarian, but when she is made redundant, her partner Mark, encourages her to come and work in the City for a company which he is a director of. The move is a dramatic change for Tessa, who is soon immersed in a life of extravagance and socialising. The highlight of her career comes when she is made a director of the company.
Out of the blue the company collapses, and Tessa and Mark face the possibility of corruption charges against them. The situation becomes even worse for Tessa when she discovers that an innocent act of compassion has caught up with her and she finds herself at the mercy of the law, with the threat of a prison sentence.
Abandoned by friends, colleagues and the man she loves, Tessa wonders whether she will ever know happiness again.
Intrigue and romance are blended together in this engaging story that will keep the readers guessing until the last page.

i was truly immersed in this novel and at so many points sat wondering what was going to happen now and could someone give our character a break. i wasn't ever really sure who's side i was on and should be on until Beverley weaved it all through for me. and i liked just sitting there being taken at her pace. usually i try to predict and form so many options of whats to come but this time it felt like i was in great hands to just sit and enjoy.
i felt so bad for Tessa when coming to the end of work like there is suddenly another spark. another bout of energy for her when she is facing retirement. a new purpose if you will which can be so hard for people when they retire. and then the upmarket life full of money and socialising. that must feel very enticing.
but when that comes crashing down. and worse things start heading Tessa's way she is facing betrayal on every front and her future even become at risk.
this is a book full of intrigue and i could totally get involved as i was on board for Tessa all the way through.
i never new where this would end so i was compelled more and more to turn more and more pages.
