Description

“It’s a new show, Quirks and Kinks. We’ve already selected a male reenactment actor to be your co-host, so you're the last piece of the puzzle. There’s some seriously f@$%ed up sh*t out there that people are into, and the two of you are going to be the face of it.”

“I’m going to be the face of people’s freakish fetishes?” I asked disbelievingly.

Larry shrugged his nonchalance, shoving it directly down the throat of my panic. “Half of it.”

That conversation was the beginning of more than a show. It was the beginning of mystery, friendship, and love, and the outcome of mixing all three together with two unsuspecting victims.

Easie Reynolds and Anderson Evans were drawn to the same, simple thing—each other.

But, sometimes, undeniable chemistry isn’t enough. After all, how easy is it to get know someone when they’re constantly pretending to be someone else?

I loved Easie that girl cracked me up, “I just . . . I’m not judging.” He raised a thick brow. “No, really,” I promised, my nose only growing minimally with the small fib. “I’m just having a hard time figuring out the appeal.” Seriously this girl cracked me up, “how in the eff is it possible you don’t have condoms?” she demanded loudly, making her exposed breasts bounce and distracting my eyes." Generally it's the men that make the book, but this one was all Easie the girl was entertaining and I loved her, Anderson really doesn't know what he's getting into, life will be full of surprises.

I picked up this book expecting to find a light, off the wall comedy. What I found was something so much more. I loved the depth and backstory that made this more than a quirky comedy and made it impossible to put down until I had read the final words.

Easie Reynolds is a struggling actress with the added stress of having her sister as her manager. If Easie doesn’t have work, her sister doesn’t get paid either. When he least favorite producer calls with a re-enactment role, Easie doesn’t look the gift horse in the mouth (too long) and takes the role on the new Quirks & Kinks reality show.

Anderson Evans is also looking for his big break. Waiting tables in the meantime, the chemistry that crackles between him and Easie is palpable. I love his reaction to her prickly exterior, especially during their initial meeting. The more we see of him, the more I liked him for more than just those surface characteristics.

The characters themselves had the same mix of humor and depth found in the book as a whole. Anderson is almost comically busy, but as he drops hints to readers, it turns out there is a pretty serious reason for his full calendar. Easie uses anger and sarcasm as a shield, but some of the things that come out of her mouth are truly hilarious. Even the side characters have hidden sides to them, things they only share with select people.

Quirks & Kinks is an interesting mix of comedy and drama. I loved the message of acceptance and tolerance that simmered behind the surface of much of this book. It stands alone perfectly, though in the background there is something happening between two of the side characters. Their full story will be coming soon, and I am intrigued by the small bits that appeared here.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars

This book is sarcastic, quirky, hilarious and yeah a bit kinky too. The fact that it centers around a reality tv show called Quirks and Kinks provides a background for some fun, drama, humor, and sexual tension. But the story also deals with more emotional topics and self discovery as well.

Easie Reynolds is desperately in need of an acting job so she does not have much choice but to take the gig as a reenactment actor for a reality tv show about fetishes. She is sarcastic stubborn, opinionated, and a bit prickly. But she uses that personality to cover her anxiety, insecurities, and vulnerability. Her unfiltered comments and social awkwardness was both funny and endearing.

Anderson Evans is handsome, smart, sexy, and flirty, but has poor follow through. He is mysterious and has his own issues and agenda that he keeps hidden. His life is very busy and structured and he has a hard time just doing what he wants and what makes him happy. I really liked him even though he could be a bit clueless. I was really interested in what he was hiding and what had marked him so much in his past.

Together they have fun banter, a definite push and pull, and serious sexual tension and chemistry. They add excitement to each other's life. But he also tends to be a calming influence on her while she pushes him to be more spontaneous. But communication is not their strong point and their issues cannot stay hidden forever. It is hard to build a solid relationship when they have a hard time really opening up and showing their vulnerabilities.

Will they not only ruin their chance at a real relationship but also their jobs too?

The side characters of her sassy sister Ashley, grumpy agent Larry, understanding Director Howie and his best friend Tammy round out the cast of crazy and interesting characters. They add even more humor, support, and drama to the story. There is also an antagonist that really annoyed me.

This book had a lot of verbal sparring and off beat humor. At some times the pacing was almost frantically funny. But it also was layered with some surprising emotional issues and secrets that gave it more depth. It was told in both Easie and Anderson's points of views but in different sections. I was so happy to get to Anderson's voice when he joined in. The characters were likable even when they could be frustrating and I wanted to smack sense into them. They were complex and had an interesting dynamic between them. This was definitely unique, entertaining, and fun while also sharing some valuable lessons about living life, laughing, loving, and being true to yourself.

I am looking forward to the next book about her sister Ashley. She is the sweeter and more socially appropriate sister, but she has her own spunk as well. Here story was teased at in this one.

**4.5 STARS**

Easie Reynolds is finding that trying to become an actor is getting close to not worth it. She's been in the business for seven years and still hasn't hit it big. Which leaves her open and desperate to take the next available job that's open: a reenactment actress for a show about couples quirks and kinks. Surely it's not something she wants to do, but she needs it to not be homeless. Easie was entirely, well, easy to relate to. She sort of let anything slip from her mouth (nice or not) and while she was labeled a bitch, she was really anything but. Her and her sister had a funny, sarcastic relationship together that really made the book light-hearted. When taking this job, she's forced to be close to Anderson Evans who seems to be the one person who gets under her skin. He frustrates her, makes her want to stop being that bitchy person she always falls back on as a shield, and to open herself up to someone. I loved that he made her want to be different, to want to be her true self, even if she didn't really know how to do that. They had instant chemistry, and Anderson was entirely sweet and sexy. He had such an understated calmness and sweetness to him that you don't see too often, and he melted my heart.

This is my first book by Laurel Ulen Curtis, and I loved her writing. Her humor was spot on, and the sarcasm and vulnerability of Easie was incredibly real. But it isn't all laughs and giggles; it will also make your heart ache. The journey to self discovery isn't an easy road, but Ms. Curtis will balance it out perfectly. You'll completely relate to Easie and feel for her instantly. You'll want Anderson for yourself. Well-written and sexy, this story will captivate readers of all kinds.

Quirks and Kinks by Laurel Ulen Curtis is a fun, fresh, quirky, humorous, and sweet read!! This was the first book that I had read from this author and surely won't be my last.

Quirks and Kinks is the title of a new television show that chronicles couples and regular folks on what else but their quirks and kinks. As a matter of fact, the premise of the show is something I would definitely be interested in tuning in and watching. Though Quirks and Kinks was a show that wanted viewers to tune in, this book had me tuning in on the development of Easie and Anderson and the secondary characters. All I got to say, I practically inhaled this book. I laughed, cried, swooned, laughed, cried again, and fell in loved with Quirks and Kinks. Ms. Curtis delivers a fresh original story line that can weave laughter, romance, kinks, and heartbreak all into one. What I love about this book was how raw, real, quirky, and true to vulnerability it portrayed it's characters. When a book can make me FEEL then I know I got a winner and I got to say Quirks and Kinks is a win for me. So if you are looking for a book that takes you down a journey of love, self-discovery, acceptance and of course humor then I highly suggest you read Quirks and Kinks.

Btw, Lauren Ulen Curtis...can I have Anderson? I absolutely LOVE LOVE him. ;)

Quirks & Kinks is a wonderful mix of emotional moments, inappropriate humor and unexpected situations. If you are a fan of Tara Sivec's Chocolate Lovers series, you should definitely enjoy this book as well.

Let's start with the humor first. One of the things I love about this author's books is her ability to make me laugh. I can definitely appreciate her sense of humor since it so closely mirrors mine and I should know better than to try to sneak in reading at work, but of course I still do it anyway, and I nearly spewed my drink across my keyboard several times. Easie and her sister Ashley have a great relationship, and Ash tends to take the brunt of Easie's frustrations as her agent but their exchanges and Easie's use of creative insults had me cracking up repeatedly.

As for the kinks referenced in the title... all I can say is wow people are into some unique things! Don't worry- the book doesn't get too explicit, it just talks about the various show topics a bit. But Laurel, I would love to see the face of anyone who pulls up your internet search history while you were completing your research because I bet it would be priceless!!

Not everything was fun and games in the story though. Easie has some issues, but they pale in comparison to what Anderson is struggling to deal with. When these two meet, the UST is off the charts and it continues to swirl around them as they get to know each other a little better. Anderson has a way of instinctively seeing through Easie's defense mechanisms which both annoys and comforts her. She knows that he is hiding something by his reactions and clever avoidance of answering certain questions, but she never in a million years would have guessed his secret until he finally has to spill the beans.

This story ranged from making me laugh to making me tear up and back again. Anderson was funny, sexy, devoted, charming and had the ability to roll with Easie's brand of goofiness without being thrown. Easie has closed herself off from many people over the years, but when she started loosening up and letting you see the real her hidden away, she had a great personality and a strength that can't be denied. There was a great cast of supporting characters as well. If you are looking for a book that will inspire a great range of emotions, then go get your 1-click on for Quirks and Kinks.

Live Free, Breath Easy

While I was reading Quirks and Kinks I realized how much I have missed a true stand alone novel. Not one book that’s stand alone and a part of the series, like Quirks and Kinks, but a book that isn’t a part of a series or a collection. From early parts of the book it was obvious that Ashley and Larry would get their own book. So, I would like to thank the author for making me realize what I truly want as a reader.
From what I understood Laurel Ulen Curtis’s books are quite humorous. It was the reason I started this book first instead of the other arcs I have, but as the author warns in the beginning, this isn’t as humorous and it’s about the past of the characters.
We learn a lot about Anderson’s past which might be a tear jerker for some. I felt that we know next to nothing about Easie. I guess Anderson had more to say about his past than Easie.
Which leads me to the point of views of this book. The story is separated into 3 parts. The first is being told by Easie, the second from Anderson and the third from Easie and Anderson alternately.
I would like to see Tammy in Ashley’s novel. I know I will see Easie and Anderson.
The book is likeable, the story flows easily and the reader finds him/herself liking the characters without realizing it.

4 stars Quirks and Kinks was my "surprise I loved this book' pick of the week. I went into this book, not knowing a single things about it and fell in love with a cute and moving story. This was a funny and telling tale about why people do the things they do and what lies behind their actions. (PS, I am not giving the plot away)

Meet Easie, yes her name is Easie. She is witty and sarcastic and fantastic. I love a women who is made tough and snarky. It makes her fun and lovable for me. She is an "actress" who is desperate for a job, and he sister forces her to take one on a reenactment TV show. The show is equally as weird. The actors need to react things that people find kinky and turn them on. Desperate, she can't say no.

Que in the adorable and instantly charming Anderson. When fate brings them together at a restaurant, and then again when Easie needs a leading male, both Easie and I has a hard time falling in love with him. He is every girl's dream guy. Hot.. check. Smart... check.
Witty banter... check.
And most important of all.. he feels a spark for Easie.

Their chemistry is though the roof, and you are rooting for them to get together the entire book. As we follow the couple, we laugh ( a lot) and cry a little. Their love story isn't an instant one, but a hilarious one that keeps you with a smile on your face the entire book.

And as an added bonus... I loved Anderson's best friend and roommate Tammy. She was an unexpected character that I thought I would hate, but loved her too (once you got to know her).

Laurel Ulen Curtis has won her self a new fan!! I can't wait to see what she writes next!!

This is highly entertaining. Laugh out loud smile and root for the good guy entertaining. Easie has a mouth and attitude but Anderson does put her in her place and we get to see a softer side emerge because of him.

Anderson is wonderful. I love watching his evolution. He is a guy who lives to try to have his brother’s dreams come true and in the process gets lost along the way. He meets Easie and begins to want his life for himself again but fights it because of the memory of his brother. He wants to be the good and help everyone. Over time this does crash around him and he realizes what his brother would have really wanted. With the help of Easie and his love for her and his roommate Tammy Anderson finds who he is again and gets the girl.

What makes this funny is the way these two came together. they are on a show together in which they reenact peoples’ fetishes. For Anderson he is easy going and accepting of all things. No judgement is there and for Easie we see her battle her inner snarky self over some of the fetishes and begin to open up and accept that the people with the fetishes are just that people that are nice in some instances but have a different way to express themselves. It doesn’t make them good or bad just a different route to show affection. Anderson helps her see this and also that having a soft side doesn’t make you weak.

Together they help each other become better versions of themselves. Each one has demons to face and mountains to climb but for each other they want to.

Each character brings a fun element to the book. Tammy shows us how to to have kindness for everyone even when they are narrow minded. Anderson that being nice isn’t a weakness and that you don’t always need to live for others but yourself. Easie she shows us strength but also that we can have someone who sees the best of us without us being weak.

A great fun entertaining story of two people who help each other find their way to who they are and in the process fall in love.

Quirks and Kinks is another fun, witty and sweet read.

The story is about Easie and Anderson. Both are aspiring actors in L.A. Easie lands a part in a new show ‘Quirks and Kinks’. To celebrate she goes to a restaurant where she had an encounter with Anderson. On the first day of her new show she meets her male co-stars and it is clear that the pair don’t get on and Easie finds him creepy. Following an incident her co-star is fired and Easie needs a new one quickly. This is where Anderson enters. As the pair begin to work on the show the pair become closer whilst re-enacting all the crazy Quirks and Kinks in the show. However Anderson has some secrets he has not shared with Easie. Can Easie overcome Anderson secrets and can Anderson bury them to be with Easie.

This story seems to have everything- humour, great witty one liners along with romance and some emotional scenes. The book is spilt into three parts. The first part is told from Easie’s POV and is full of humour and great witty lines from Easie. The second part is from Anderson’s POV and this is where the story changed slightly for me. Yes there is still lots of humour but Anderson’s POV also adds an emotional dimension to the story. The third part of the book alternates between Easie and Anderson’s POV.

There is some great banter between Easie and Anderson and there are some laugh out loud moments. I very quickly connected with the story and the characters. The only thing for me was I thought that perhaps the author could have brought out a little more of the Quirks and Kinks stories which Easie and Anderson were re-telling. All we got were little tiny samples of the stories. There are also some great secondary characters and I would like to see more of Tammy and also Easie’s sister Ashley.

Overall another great story from author Laurel Ulen Curtis . If you’re looking for a fun, humorous, sweet read then this book is for you.

I can't wait for Ashley's story.

I went into this book not really knowing much about the story itself. I just knew that is was a new book from Laurel Ulen Curtis, so that means that I will read it. Quirks and Kinks is a fun, witty, and refreshing read. It has just the right amount of wittiness and sarcastic humor that I love from Ms. Curtis mixed with sexiness but also a bit of sadness as well. And of course, a hero that you will just fall in love with.

Easie is snarky, witty, sarcastic and at times may come across as a bit of a bitch. But deep down she is a good person who says what she is thinking at any given moment and doesn’t really take crap from anyone. She is an actress and in desperate need of finding work, like now. She has been doing it for a few years now and still has not found that job that will make her a big star. Her sister who is her best friend and manager has found a new job for her and whether she likes it or not, Easie really has no choice but to take it. The name of the show is Quirks and Kinks. A show about people who have some weird kinks and Easie is the reenactment actor who portrays these people. But she is not doing this show alone. Enter Anderson Evans, he’s cute and sexy and he knows how to handle Easie’s snarky attitude very well.

Anderson is an actor but he also has a lot going on in his life. He is juggling a lot of jobs, hobbies whatever it is that you want to call them. To say he is a busy man is an understatement. But you soon find out his reason for doing the things that he does. Why he lives his life this way. And when you do your heart will just break for him. I loved Andersen. Easie was the first women that came along and made him want to change the way he was living. He wanted her and couldn’t stop thinking about her. But he was keeping something from her and he knew it wasn’t fair to her but he was afraid to tell her the truth for fear of losing her, but also that she will not understand him and his reasons.

I loved both of these characters. Anderson is sexy and sweet but also has this calmness to him that I think helped Easie. He helped her to want to become a better person, less of a bitch you could say. I also loved the relationship he had with his best friend which I won’t go into but I loved the whole way that they met, what happened after and that they still remained friends.

Easie was a heroine that I loved. She was feisty and I loved that about her. Her and Anderson helped each other in many ways. Anderson was stuck in the past, living a life that wasn’t necessarily the life he wanted to live. But his reasons for doing it were very honorable but at the same time stripping him of who he really was. Being with Easie helped him to be himself and she helped him to move on from his past and be the person that he was meant to be. Once she found out why she understood and helped him live his life for him but at the same time not forgetting his past. They helped each other.

I always look forward to Laurel’s books. She knows how to write quirky characters that make you smile. She has the perfect blend of humor, sexiness and romance. It is not that over the top humor that becomes too much, if that makes sense. I loved the uniqueness to this story as well. The are reenactment actors so it was fun to see the behind the scenes moments with them. Quirks and Kinks is the prefect beach read. It is fun and witty and quirky as well. You will fall in love with Easie and Anderson. So grab a cold drink, some sunscreen, some sand and enjoy!

Are you a fan of New Adult novels with a hint of sex and strange things ? Do you spend your nights watching reality TV ? Quirks and Kinks has it all as Easie - yes that's her real name has been offered a position as a co-host on a new strange TV series called Quirks and Kinks and she is at her last chance so she can't stuff this one up otherwise it's bye, bye life and crawling back home. Anderson Evans is living life to the max and has his own reasons for everything ,reasons that he keeps tight and close to his chest. Not many people can make Easie feel at ease and alive and well , happy but Anderson seems to be doing a great job at it as they maneuver through strange fetishes and skits each week from clown sex to period sex - yes this is a thing and lately has been in the news alot -apparently when a guy does this he is earning his "red wings". As the pair get closer, and Easie lets down her guard - will she find herself opening up to him only to get hurt and wounded ? Can Anderson finally let someone into his circle of trust and reveal the secret and burdens that he has lived with for a long time ?

We all have our own Quirks and Kinks in life and in Laurel Ulen Curtis's new book , you can discover some weird and wacky ones.

** My 4-Star Review **

How could one not love a book about a show that showcases quirks and kinks in the bedroom? You couldn't could you? I know I can't help but to love this book!

The first part of this book is full of laughs. I mean, come on... Clown sex? Right there, alone, had me in stitches. Trust me, there is more... But really, the clown sex alone is enough to make you curious, right?

All jokes aside... This book isn't just about a television show. It's about two people, who share an undeniable attraction, who also happen to end up as co-stars on this kinky show. The plot doesn't stop there... Anderson has some secrets. Secrets that could destroy any kind of friendly or romantic relationship that could happen between he and Easie.

And Easie. What a name for a character! And trust me, there are plenty of puns hidden in this story that will make you chuckle... Or maybe my dirty mind just thought they were puns. Either way, what an inventive name!

There was a bit of a drawback in this story. The characters tend to be over-dramatic in places where it isn't warranted. They tend to be over the top over things that really aren't an issue. At times, it was hard to feel the characters.

Overall, this is a well-written book that will make you both laugh and cry. It has just enough joking around and seriousness to balance out. I recommend it, especially if you are looking for sweet and funny read.

Laurel seriously made me chuckle, A LOT, with this one. Its lighthearted, funny, definitely quirky and full of a whole love of kinkery. Quick but cute, "Quirks & Kinks" is the perfect mixture of Curtis' personality. While super sweet and nice, she has the zingers and a humor that will have you laughing for days.

Easie and Anderson are the lead actor/actress on a new show Quirks & Kinks. The show re-enacts the quirky and kinky romance habits that average people have. From having sex dressed as clowns, to a man with a third nipple, Easie and Anderson must morph into these crazy and impossible moments in people's lives. Of course this "close" acting does wonders for two people already having some pretty crazy sparks happening between them.

Easie is a smart mouthed sassy thing with a ton of personality. Anderson is hiding a few secrets to explain why he is constantly on the move. These two together was a fun thing to read!

Another example of why I love Laurel Ulen Curtis both as a writer and a person. She really is a sweet, funny chick with some serious talent!
