Description

Lambda Literary Award winner and national bestselling author Alexandria Bellefleur returns with a steamy Sapphic rom-com about two rival publicists who are forced to work together when their mega-famous clients—a popstar and a quarterback—begin to date.

Poppy Peterson’s life is finally back on track and she’s thriving as the publicist of the NFL’s most promising quarterback (and her childhood best friend), Cash Curran. So, she doesn’t appreciate when he makes an impulsive and public pass at America’s popstar darling, Lyric Adair. When Lyric’s notorious publicist Rosaline Sinclair reaches out, Poppy is ready to face her wrath, but instead learns that Lyric is equally interested.

As Cash and Lyric embark on their ill-advised whirlwind romance, Poppy and Rosaline are forced together, each determined to protect their own client from the other. Poppy is frustrated by Rosaline’s cool demeanor, while at the same time, as a legend in the industry, she’s determined to impress her. But, no matter what she does, she can’t shake the feeling that Rosaline doesn’t like her.

That is until one steamy night, when the two women contend with their unexpected feelings and begin a messy romance of their own. But with paparazzi, tabloids, and stalker fans nipping at their heels, Poppy and Rosaline’s loyalties will be tested in ways they could never expect.

A high energy, Sapphic, and deeply sexy romance, Playing for Keeps has everything readers expect from Alexandria Bellefleur and more!

The perfect book to read on The Life of a Showgirl release date. What if Taylor and Travis' PR agents were gay and in love?? (Tree Paine pls) It was so fun to have 2 different couples fall in love at the same time. I don't care what anyone says, I love the little tweets and articles at the beginning of chapters to really build the fan frenzy about both couples. Also fuck AI

This was such a delicious book to read!!

Alexandria Bellefleur is so good at writing grumpy/sunshine lesbians!! This is my second of theirs after Written In the Stars so I already had high hopes and boy were they met.

The banter in Playing for Keeps was so fun and witty. I loved seeing Poppy and Rosaline go back and forth and the tension building. It was quite fast paced and kept me intrigued the whole time. I liked that they both helped each other through their personal issues and really connected on that too. I also just adored their little stolen moments together.
I also really liked Cash and Lyric's relationship as it felt a lot like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's relationship. A football player and a singer forced into the spotlight.
The ending of the book did fell a bit rushed but otherwise a really fun read!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this book! Poppy and Rosaline have a great dynamic. Witty banter and they clearly have chemistry. I found the story moved along at a great pace. The obstacles were very believable even with the third act breakup. Personally I loved the romance between the clients as well. This book is a mix of sweet, spicy, fun, with great writing and plot lines! Go read it now!

This was one of the most adorable books I have read this year and all I wanted was MORE, MORE, MORE!

First we have Cash and Lyric who are basically Travis and Taylor in the most adorable rom-com.....it’s cute, its dramatic, it’s sweet, it’s all things that I love in a romance.

But the true love story is between the two superheros (not literally) that are behind these two superstars. The love is slow-burn, delicious, filthy, and all together all consuming.

Poppy never expects her client’s random tweet to go viral let alone land him a date with America’s sweetheart but when it does, she finds herself frantically barreling towards one PR disaster after another. One PR disaster she cannot handle or spin is the impact the long-legged, tattoed, fashionable, blunt and extremely competent Rosaline is having on her.

Poppy has demons and so does Rosaline. Can this romance survive a romantic entanglement, deepfake AI, and client meltdowns?

My new favorite Alexandria Bellefleur book? I think so! Playing for Keeps was fantastic! I really connected with Poppy's character and I loved her dynamic with Rosaline. Their scenes were spicyyyy in the best way. More of THAT, please! 🥵🥵 The Hollywood-romance between Lyric and Cash was sweet without overshadowing the main couple. 10/10 would recommend.

Poppy and Rosalind had me HOOKED!!

The tension, the ups and downs, I am so obsessed with these two characters. Cash and Lyric in the background are just an added plus to the whole story. The emotional connection between each couple was so nuanced and perfect for their personalities, I love when I feel like a part of the friend group in a book, and this is what that was like.

This is my first Alexandria Bellefleur read, and it will not be my last. This is one of my favorite romance reads of the year.

I fell in love with Alexandria Bellefluer last year and every single things she puts out i'm floored. The writing was smooth. I sympathized greatly with Poppy and I really connected to her as a character. I love being able to be transformed in a love story and this was a sapphic dream.
Thank you to HarperCollins Publishing and Alexandria Bellefleur for me with the eARC of in exchange for my honest review!

I would recommend if you're looking for (SPOILERS)

-f/f contemporary romance
-celebrity
-workplace
-hard one/soft one
-this is just a hookup

This was fun/frothy and I loved the Taylor/Travis side characters, but the stars of the show are the publicists behind the scenes. I loved their chemistry, the flirty messages, the banter as they both tried and failed miseraly to keep it professional.
