Description

In the distant future, the bulk of humanity lives on a moon with drastic shifts in seasons that force its inhabitants to chase the thin band of livability up and down the globe. The country of Ionia is preparing to relocate their citizens to the Tawny Desert, a land which is about to become lush, only to discover the land has been seized by traitors. After the land grab, we’ll follow several storylines and see how lives have been upended. Some will rise to be heroes, while others will succumb to a darkness that always lurked inside them.

Among them are the Stem Shifters: people with the ability to alter Space, Time, Energy, and Matter with their minds. Some can conjure energy swords, others can bend space, and an elite few can manipulate time. Some, like Sophie Song and Alex Lucien, are peacekeepers, while others have joined the turncoat and drug lord Antoine Callichio.

The Ionians have a Stem Shifter with the rare ability to let her consciousness drift into the future and bring back visions. She sees a glimpse of a teenager named Isaak Kaldera ending the upcoming war. Isaak is living on his own in the Slums of the Forsaken. Will he prove to be a hero or has the act of witnessing his future changed its course?

There’s Dante Zotto. His father is a corrupt oligarch who Dante wanted nothing to do with, but, as events unfold, he gets sucked into his father’s world. Will he slide into corruption, or will he remain true to his daughter, Garima, as she undergoes her training to be a Stem Shifter fighting for Ionia?

We’ll see Renette Imari, a government worker overwhelmed by the task of distributing too few resources to too many people. She’ll also discover her government is much more corrupt than she’d imagined. And as if that weren’t enough, her brother, Terran, fell to the charms of cult leader named Killian Scuro who has convinced his followers to join Antoine Callichio.

Then there’s Kyra Anderton, an off-world miner whose crew is attacked by creatures known as Shadow Demons. She is nicked on her calf and cuts off her own leg to prevent infection. But did it work? As Kyra heads back to Novena we have to wonder if she is bringing a deadly plague with her.

Falling Into Shadow is a story of power, betrayal, and revenge, where allegiances shift, and no one knows who is good and who is evil. This may be Space Opera with futuristic tech, and imaginary creatures, but it is really about people, specifically the struggle within every man and every woman who tries to remain good while a world of evil tries to drag them into shadow.
