This is a wonderful story to teach children about the use of interjections in a story. Iris needs to write a story about her class when she takes over the room when her teacher leaves for an emergency. She is worried that her story will be no good. Her friend Ian works with her and reinforces what she has learned about interjections. Her story suddenly takes on a new life and becomes interesting. A great concept in how to teach this difficult part of speech to children. There are also resources at the end of the book to use. A book that should be in all school and classroom libraries.
Grammar is such a hard thing for children to learn, so I am a big fan of any book that teaches it! This book is not for entertainment; it is for learning. It does a great job of teaching interjections. I do not care for the illustrations.
I was expecting this book to be sort of boring. However, it does a nice job of explaining about interjections without being pedantic. It's probably more of a school library book than a public library book, but I think the kids who read will learn something without much sweat.
