Description

A young author becomes the object of a fan’s desire—and rage—in the gripping thriller by the #1 New York Times-bestselling author of Hidden Nature.

He showed up at Arden Bowie’s debut author appearance with a copy of her novel and an eager smile. He showered her with compliments and got her autograph. Then he came to her next event. And the one after that.

Dustin was just an aspiring writer who wanted advice, Arden reassured herself. But after giving in to one of his incessant invitations and chatting with him over coffee, she discovered that ignoring her inner alarm bell had been a terrible mistake…

An introvert at heart, Arden had long craved solitude—but now, after a harrowing assault, she finds herself hiding behind locked doors and startling at every sound. And her relief at his imprisonment is tempered by anxiety when Dustin’s wealthy mother helps to get him a paltry five-year sentence at a psychiatric facility.

Arden decides to write a new story for herself, moving to a tiny Oregon town and befriending Gideon, an ex-LAPD detective. But while she learns to thrive, Dustin remains his delusional, twisted self, as fixated as ever and now seething with anger. He still believes Arden's purpose on earth is to serve and please him. And his job is to protect her. But who will protect her from him?

If I could choose to live in a Nora Roberts book, I would. The Final Target met all of Nora's usual style. Arden is a beginning author when she attracts the attention of a sociopath. A few years later, she's making a wonderful life for herself, beginning a relationship with the hot stuff chief of police when her past comes back to haunt her. I loved this story for the characters, the found family in the midst of hard times, and the beauty of Nora's storytelling.

Another hit from Ms. Roberts. Final Target keeps you guessing how they will catch him and how the two leads will find their happy ever after. And the cast of extras are great fun!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. Nora Roberts leads us into the mind of a maniac but gives the heroine the strength she needs in spite of her terror. The harrowing plot is balanced by a love story and oddly enough, instances of humor.
The author's skill at description immersed us into the story.

A brilliantly written novel! Nora Roberts did a wonderful job in writing about how this woman suffered a terrifying ordeal that almost crippled her from living her life to the fullest. With the help of family, friends, therapy, and love she took charge and put a stop to her tormenter.

4.5 stars. I read an ARC from St. Martin's Press and NetGalley. Thanks!
Over the years I've realized I love a Nora Roberts stand alone novel. The Final Target is a fast paced thriller. 5 years ago author Arden Bowie did a reading/signing of her first book at the independent bookstore where she worked. It was fairly well attended. One of the attendees was a man about her age who asked her out after she signed his book. She had plans so declined. He managed to hide his displeasure and wished her well. Over the following weeks her life moved on and he dug in determined to become involved with her. What followed was a traumatic attack and its aftermath. Five years later he's out of the mental hospital and once again ready to end anyone who gets in the way of his happily ever after with Arden.
This book is the story of what came after the assault. Nora Roberts' heroine is strong in optimism and constitution. She knows what she wants moving forward. I loved how that played out. She's supported by a strong family, new friends and the love of a good man. The novel felt empowering. Recommended to fans of Nora Roberts and a fast paced thriller.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an early copy of this book in exchange for a honest review. Nora Roberts did not disappoint with this book. I throughly enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. I could not put this book down, I had to know what was going to happen. I loved the storyline and the characters. And, as always it was well written. I would definitely recommend this book.

Another hit in the books for Nora! I always enjoy Nora’s books and are always entertained by them. Every relationship that she writes are always developed so well and feel so genuine The relationship between Arden and her family, especially Zoey, was wonderful to read. Arden was a great character who didn’t let a horrible, traumatic event define her and overcame the obstacles to healing. The relationship between Arden and Joe was refreshing. It was nice to see them build each other up and learn to work around the other’s quirks. Can’t wait to add the physical copy to my shelf!

This. Book. That. Villain. I. Can't. Even.

I'm not sure the last time I was so disgusted, so enraged by a villain before. Probably not since Umbridge in the Harry Potter series have I wanted someone so badly, to get what was coming to them.

This book brought out so many emotions. I can't even tell you the number of times I smiled, teared up, and, yes, was seriously pissed off.

The characters, the settings, all of it, will grab you and refuse to let go. This is by far one of my most favorite Nora books yet. I just couldn't get enough, and yet, I had to pause and take breaks too because...the emotions were all over the place. Fabulously done!
