So I swim really well but diving always looked like it could be scary. I'm glad I know so much more about it right now, and this book gives some simple but complete descriptions of the basics around how it works. The other thing I liked is that it talked about all the different jobs where people need to know how to dive. Diving can be just for fun, but it's necessary for many jobs and people who want to do different kinds of research. The photos are great too.

This is a helpful, informative non-fiction book for young readers who are interested in learning more about scientists and working divers. While scuba divers who dive for recreation are also introduced in this book, there is mostly a focus on the mechanics of diving, the equipment needed, and the precautions divers must take.
Readers will appreciate the table of contents, glossary, and colorful imagery.
I highly recommend this book for schools and libraries.

One of a series of six books that take the sensationalism away from risky careers, but present the basic facts about them. This one does seem to go on and on with similar results for a few pages, as all aspects of the 'how' of diving are presented, but we soon get on to different reasons to dive as a job, whether it be police searcher, underwater welder for the oil industry, PADI instructor or Hollywood safety guy. Certainly a niche title, it will only give a rounded appreciation of the job, with a lot of information about the safety concerns involved.
