This is not a book for the faint of heart. Spiders are photographed clearly, up close, and shown in attack position in some instances. I was a bit squeamish looking at the photos, although there is nothing gross or gory. I just didn't realize what a strong reaction seeing a close up of spider eyes, or a spiders legs would have on me! I struggled to read the facts because the pictures gave me the shivers.

Now, a spider lover, or science fan who is not bothered by spiders will have no problem with this book, and will find it to be easy to digest, with quick facts and lots of photographs. At the end are some Q & A facts, and a glossary. I highly recommend this book for schools and libraries, and spider lovers!

I love spiders. I watch every horror movie with spiders and I try to leave them alone when I run across them because they have important work. People who find spiders icky should check out this book where they can see all different kinds of spiders and learn cool facts about them where they're just on a page.
Warning: the photos are bright and clear and close-up, and they show how amazing spiders are.

I don't hate spiders but I am not a fan, it's fair to say I have a decent amount of fear surrounding spiders but I also have a respect for them as well.

I found this book to be very informative but the pictures are very clear and bright. If you have a strong fear of our fanged friend be mindful of that!

I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Lots of spider facts and bright photos make this a read for spider fans or for those wanting to know more about these creatures.

Ten different spiders are taken under the microscope...well, not literally. From habitat to life span to characteristics and more, this creatures are studied and exposed. The information is brought across in an organized manner with each theme marked by a clear heading and followed by a short paragraph. The information is clear and concise. Yet, it flows smoothly enough to remain perfect for even the younger end of the intended age group. To help familiarize the reader with the spiders, bright and clear photos cover the pages. These are taken from various angles to ensure readers will recognize the spider, when they see it. After all, many of these are pretty venomous.

To round off this book, there are several chapters in the later pages, which take a general look at spiders. The anatomy, habits, and more are explained in a clear and understandable manner. Photos are used to showcase each fact, and these are pointed out with little tags as needed. This makes it a lovely read not only for spider fans, but also works for anyone seeking more information about spiders. It would make a nice addition to classrooms and libraries and even fits to homeschooling situations.

It's a well done read for a quick look at some of the more dangerous spiders as well as basic spider-knowledge in general.

This 32-page book provides neatly organized facts about and photographs of ten different dangerous spiders from around the world. Some general facts about spiders are included at the end, along with a glossary and index. The text didn’t provide enough detail to satisfy me as an adult, but I’m not the target audience. This book probably would have given me nightmares as a child, but my stepbrothers would have loved it when they were young!

The photographs are wonderful. My one complaint is that the brown recluse is described as one of the world’s most dangerous spiders, yet there’s a photo of a person’s hand with numerous brown recluses on it with no explanation. That seems confusing for children, who might be tempted to try that themselves.

This book should appeal to children who are interested in dangerous animals and won’t be too upset by the closeup photos of venomous spiders. It’s recommended for grades 3 to 6, which seems about right.

Thanks to Rosen Publishing Group for providing me with an electronic ARC through NetGalley. I volunteered to provide an honest review.

The bulk of this book is a database of the worst spiders – the really nippy and dramatically nasty ones, where we have a full-on photo portrait, and data about their diet, size, life cycle, habitat, etc. It's only after those that we get the basic details, in factoid form, about how many legs they have, how they work and why we tend to hate them so much. One of the three questions posed on the front cover isn't specifically answered within, but what we do get is strong enough, if you can stomach the close-ups and the thought of these critters sharing our world. All told it might have dropped some of the sensationalism for more of the basics, or given itself different priorities where those are concerned, but it's still just about a four star read. One of a series of six similarly-minded volumes for the school library – if you dare.
