Oh I love this. I am so into permaculture and growing things where we can.
Why do a yard of rocks when you can grow a food forest?
I have it all in my yard but I picked this up for some more ideas.
It is lovely.
Thank you!

This book is for those seeking a simpler, more sustainable way to garden. A perfect starting point. I found the book easy to read, easy to follow and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
What a gem of a book! “Low-Maintenance Eco Gardens” is one of those rare guides that manages to be both inspiring and truly practical. It’s the kind of book I wish I had had at the start of my gardening journey. Fred Meyer and Jen Kardos bring together experience, warmth and a refreshingly down-to-earth philosophy that turns gardening from a list of chores into an act of joy—for oneself, the planet as well as every bird, bug and buddy who drops by.
The authors’ ethos to promote wellbeing while creating nourishing spaces - literally and metaphorically - shines through on every page. Their advice covers everything from planning and design to tackling pests and choosing the right plants, all while keeping sustainability front and centre. The guidance feels doable, honest and encouraging—never preachy or overly complicated.
What makes this book especially engaging is its look and layout. The design invites browsing, with plenty of photos, charts and handy inserts that make information easy to digest. Best of all, the images show real gardens and real people—not manicured perfection, but spaces that look achievable and alive. It’s comforting to see authenticity celebrated instead of curated idealism.
This is a book that doesn’t just teach—it uplifts. It reminds readers that gardening doesn’t have to be elaborate or exhausting to be meaningful. Practical, beautifully presented and deeply motivating, “Low-Maintenance Eco Gardens” is one to treasure and share. It will be on my go-to list of gifts for friends taking their first steps into gardening or setting up a new allotment.
