If you speak the names of each person in the book as if you know them, the author has created for you a reality from their imagination. Brittany Touris is one of these authors. It may start with her captivating title but believe me it does not end with the last paragraph. This book will hold you in the palm of its pages.

Marketing Plan
Brittany Touris is a young writer, blogger, and YouTuber from the city of Rochester in Upstate New York. She's spent some time traveling and trying out different colleges before deciding to drop out and become a writer. This is when she began work on Stars Melt to Milk.
In August of 2014, she published her debut feminist e-book, A Man's Right to Choose, which focuses the voices of girls and young women.

This book has a lot of promise. The plot, characters and events in it were great. but I didn’t enjoy how it was actually written. I felt like it was more of a screenplay, just without the cues. In the 248 pages at least 3/4 was just people talking. When they would be talking it would go as follows:
“Blah blah blah”
“Blah blah blah”
“Blah Blah Blah” Some thoughts. “Blah Blah Blah”
And that’s how it would be for 3-4 pages. It was hard to keep track of who was saying what in certain situations. On top of this, the book changes POV every chapter from Charlie to Janis. Which was great. I loved reading about what each person was going through. What I didn’t like was the entire book was written in 1st person, so if you were just reading blindly and not paying much attention, you could easily mix the two up. At least during the first part.
Now I connected with Janis on same levels. I too got pregnant young and was extremely scared. But I admire how she stood up for what she wanted. She prevailed throughout the entire pregnancy and from then on. Charlie. He I did not like. Even to being with. At the start of the book, sure he was in love with Janis and would do anything for her, at that time. But he made everything about him. Sure his dad died when he was 10. But it’s been 10 years. I know it’s not something he can get over, but stop using it as an excuse for how you act. You are an adult. And on that note, act like an adult Charlie.
I still don’t know what I want to do with my life, and I’m 22. But I at least would have gotten a job to support myself. Oh well. You hated working in the restaurant. Boo hoo. Poor me. As you guys can tell. I do not like Charlie’s character. He gets somewhat better at the end. But I still don’t like him.
This whole book covers about 6 years of life, 4 of which you don’t read about. While I liked the time jump of the 4 years, in the beginning I didn’t really grasp the time jumps. I see their point. But there was no way to tell a time jump had happened right off the bat. You had to read a while first.
Conclusion:
I really liked the plot and Janis. I just didn’t like how certain things played out, or the fact that book felt rushed like the author didn’t have enough time before her deadline.

Brittany Touris' Stars Melt to Milk is a light, but enjoyable read. Young adults Charlie and Janis are passionate about each other, ballet, and cars, but yet they find that their passions may not be enough. Stars Melt to Milk is a novel about growing up, dreaming, and making amends. It is a novel that straddles the YA and adult fiction line well.
