My mother hated me for existing. Every chance I had to build a life of my own, she destroyed. She didn’t want me free; she wanted me ruined. When they locked me inside the Facility, she finally got what she wanted. The doctors call it treatment, and the guards call it safety. But I know better. This is just another prison with her fingerprints all over it.

I was the son she paraded, the favorite she spoiled. But her love was never real. It was control, suffocating and merciless. I believed her until she offered me up to her faith, to strangers who carved their sins into me while she turned away. My sister is the only one who saw me, the only one who loved me without demanding sacrifice. When they took her, I followed. I had to. She is my only constant, and if she has to endure this place, then I will suffer it beside her.

The Facility became my sentence long before I understood my crime. They said I attacked her. That I snapped. But when I try to remember, the images blur. Flashes of blood, shouts, silence. Sometimes I think they are lying. Sometimes I think they are right. And sometimes I am more afraid that the memories I have buried will return whole, and I will finally see what I am.
