Description
In the high-stakes conclusion to the Micah Grey Trilogy from the USA Today-bestselling author of Dragonfall, Micah faces his own magical power, nebulous alliances, and a conspiracy that unravels all the way to the Royal Palace
The gifted can’t hide their talents forever. But monsters await when they step into the light...
Micah's Chimaera powers are growing, just as dark visions threaten to overwhelm him. Drystan is forced to take him to the Royal Physician, but can they really trust the doctor? Especially when he gets Micah hooked on a mysterious medicine, and a close friend is revealed to be his spy.
Meanwhile, violent unrest is sweeping the country as anti-royalist factions fight to be heard. When a royal secret and an attack on Chimaera brings Micah into the heart of the conflict, he and his friends must fight an ancient sect that aims to spread terror once more. The fate of all Chimaera—and the world—hangs in the balance.
In this satisfying and thrilling conclusion to their inventive fantasy trilogy, L.R. Lam raises the stakes like never before.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy.
Lam knocks it out of the park with the finale to the Micah Grey trilogy. Masquerade was a delightful ride of emotions, even though I felt like screaming and crying sometimes :)
Without talking about the actual plot of the book, the end to this series felt wholesome but bittersweet. I’m sad it’s over, but I sure am glad I got to read it!
The character development of both Micah and Drystan has been my favourite part of this trilogy, and Drystan reallyyyyy had a big development in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading his character arc!

A beautiful finale to the Micah Grey trilogy, LR Lam knocks it out of the park with MASQUERADE in the magical realm of Elada.
What can I say about the Micah Grey trilogy besides I am so sad to see it end? But also, what an ending!
There were so many reveals, and revelations, and Hestia's fables!
I am so sad to be finished with Micah's story and love him, Drystan, Cyan, Maske. I love Cyril and the moments they had together and just unrestrained love he has for Micah.
"Life is nothing but change, after all, and we believe the world having a little more magic, a little more wonder, is no bad thing."
I'm so glad I joined this circus.
Masquerade by L R Lam is the thrilling conclusion to the Micah Grey trilogy. In this novel, Micah’s questions about his past and the future are answered, and he is finally tasked with saving the world. Micah and his friend Cyan and lover Drystan must figure out who the blurred man is and what he wants before it is too late. Additionally, the trio must figure out the motives and intentions of Dr Pinecrest, the doctor who claims to have found Micah as a baby.
This book was all a reader could hope for in a finale. L R Lam pulled their signature move of masterfully interweaving tense events in the storyline with heartwarming and breaking emotional scenes. All lose ends that needed tying off were tied, leaving the reader yearning for more, but not so much that they can’t understand the story without it.
The Micah Grey trilogy and its conclusion are masterful pieces of works: thoroughly engaging and enjoyable. This series is perfect for fantasy readers fond of tropes such as found family and mysterious pasts. Thank you to DAW for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own
A very fitting and magical end to the story!
We added some more characters to care about as well as more magic and different powers which was very cool to see and learn about!
While less magic was learned in this book we still got plenty of shows and performances for the group to put on which were delightful as always!
I've greatly enjoyed watching Micah grow on his journey with all the friends and companions helping along the way!
If you enjoy coming of age queer stories or stories of magic and illusions this trilogy is wonderful and I highly recommend it broadly!

I loved this whole trilogy. The world-building is so cool and vibrant, Micah is a great main character, and his relationships with the other characters are so lovely to read.
As Micah's Chimera powers continue to grow so does the political unrest sweeping the factions. Micah becomes ill and Drystan must take him to the untrustworthy Dr. Pozzi. The Chimera must fight an ancient sect that threatens them. They must all come together as family to fight this new evil.
I enjoyed watching Micah and Drystan's relationship blossom into what it is now. It felt natural and perfect. The new found family aspect of the whole trilogy has always been my favorite part. There is definitely more royal intrigue, secrets and betrayal on this final book. I am very happy to have been part of Micah Grey's journey. This third and final installment is bitter sweet.
Thank you Netgalley and DAW for this eARC. All opinions are entirely my own.
I read this whole series without stopping to read anything else as I usually do because I was so invested in it. Lam's writing is captivating and their characterisation, superb. Definitely one of my favourite trilogies of all times.
A FANTASTIC conclusion to the trilogy, a greatly developed, well paced book that flowed so well. I really appreciated that Lam re-wrote and updated this trilogy as it gave me the chance to discover this work.

I've waited for what seems like SO LONG to see this series to its end. Now that I have, I wanna immediately go back and read again from the start.
Thankfully, I still have some Vestigal Tales to catch up on.
Masquerade is the long awaited finale in the trilogy about Micah Grey, a young Kedi--intersex--character who fell in love with a circus performer and ended up becoming a magician. In this novel, he, Drystan and their friend Cyan struggle to make sure that a fringe group in Ellada doesn't make sure that all Chimera like them are killed.
It does very much feel more like a direct continuation of Shadowplay, largely because our characters are still in the same place, around the same characters and, with the exception of the prologue, the whole of it is told without any seeming of a dual narrative. The themes, though, are quite different. While, in Shadowplay, the focus was on the magic of the world and the relationship between Drystan and Micah, in Masquerade, that relationship is more established and the plot is more of a murder mystery.
The book starts with an introspective from Anisa, a character who has been with us through all three books, and she recounts the events of the first two books in the series in a way that advances her own character and also happily reminds the readers of the pertinent points of what came before. It was perfectly done, giving me at least the feeling of sinking right in where I'd left off.
There wasn't a not perfect note of this entire book. I can not rate it high enough.
