Description

In this uplifting picture book, a young Black girl’s identities converge at the Women’s March, helping her find power in her voice and her community.

Mama and I are on our way to the Women’s March. I wish we were going somewhere else. Some place fun.

Overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the protest, Hope is unsure of how she fits into this movement and how she can make her voice heard—after all, she didn’t seem to have any power when her teacher discriminated against her in class. But when she and Mama join a group of Black women protesters, Hope sees herself in them and discovers that one voice, no matter how small, can make powerful change.

With propulsive writing and vibrant, accessible artwork, The March for Hope is an electrifying call to action and a heartfelt reminder of our own inherent strength.

This was a fantastic description of the hope and empowerment that the 2017 Women's March represented and the current movements of women getting involved in politics. The illustrator did such a nice job representing the diversity, the posters and the pink knit caps that were integral to our march. Not only a factual description of the march, this story focuses on a little girl named Hope who wants to believe in the movement and the ideals, but has already at a young age been a victim of institutional racism and gender bias.

As she tries to reconcile this dichotomy, she reflects on powerful women who also contended with these challenges such as Malala, Sojourner Truth, Shirley Chisholm, and others.

I highly recommend this wonderful book for schools, libraries, and museums.

This was a wonderful read. The illustrations in this picture book are so special. I felt so connected to the characters.

I think this is a great book for kids to read along side their grown ups. I also think this would be a wonderful and vital addition to school, classroom and public libraries. I can see this being a great class read and an opportunity to open up some discussions with kids about their voices and the change they want to see in their schools and communities.

Thank you to NetGalley and W.W Norton for the ARC!

This book is such an important book of why it is important to use your voice even if you don't think it will make a change. It is also reminds us as grownups that we have long way to go when it comes to our own internalized misogyny.

I literally cried reading this. It's such an IMPORTANT story for young girls to read. Their voices ARE important. What they say DOES hold weight. It's crucial we band together to ensure a brighter future for women all around the world and until then? We march and protest to make our voices heard.

Oh my GOD, I loved this story.
