Description
Lucy Harris was a trailblazing basketball star of the 1970s, leading Delta State University to multiple national championship titles. As a dominant center, she revolutionized women’s basketball and broke barriers on both national and international stages.
In 1976, Lucy was selected to play on the first-ever U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team, where she led Team USA in scoring and rebounds. Her remarkable career earned her a place in history as a member of the inaugural class of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and as the first Black woman inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Harris’s legacy paved the way for future generations, and she is widely regarded as the prototype for the center position in women’s basketball. Her story is one of excellence, courage, and inspiration.
