Description

Sherbourne Mistletoe has been prized and sold at the annual Mistletoe Fair for over a hundred years; but could this year possibly be the last? With her father’s sudden death and debts mounting up it looks as though Freya’s only hope for the future is to sell her beloved family home. And to make matters worse, the only contenders to buy Appleyard Farm, are the people she’d least like to sell it to – the dreaded Henderson brothers who seem always to make life so difficult.

It’s magical stuff though, mistletoe, and the arrival of the mysterious Amos Fry brings a glimmer of hope that just maybe Freya can fall in love with Christmas all over again.

As the snow begins to fall, cosy up and find your sparkle this Christmas with another big-hearted, and wonderfully warm read from the author of Letting in Light.

In this charming novella, Freya fears she may lose her family farm. For over 100 years, her family’s mistletoe has been the most prized at the annual Mistletoe Fair. But this year, after the death of her father, Freya’s family farm is awash in debt. It looks like she has no choice but to sell – and the only takes are the nasty and dreaded Henderson brothers. Is there any Christmas magic to save Freya? Sweet and light. A perfect read on a cold winters night

Merry Mistletoe was a sweet story, that really brings home the value of friendship and goodwill at Christmas.

Freya is dreading losing Appleyard Farm and the Sherbourne orchards, having had it in the family for over a hundred years, but when her dad did, he left a lot of debts, so Freya can't see any way out but to sell. But first she needs to do the last harvest and sell off the produce at the Mistletoe Fair.

Freya's only offer on the farm come from rival brothers the Hendersons, who she would rather not sell to, but may not have any choice. As the story progresses we discover she has had an interesting history with the brothers, one that I would have liked explained in greater detail than it was.

Freya has two main allies as this time, Sam, the Henderson who she doesn't hate as much as the other and Amos Fry. Amos Fry appeared randomly in the autumn, and has turned into a really good friend and helper on the farm, when Freya's boyfriend wasn't willing to do anything.

There is just something about the way Amos is described which makes me wonder if he was human, or some sort of spiritual being.

There is a countdown to mark each passing of time, and it is a countdown to Mistletoe Day, but having never heard of Mistletoe day, I would have loved an explanation as to what it is.

Merry Mistletoe is a entertaining novella, that is well written, although more details would have been nice in places, and a great snapshot into a December at a Mistletoe Farm.

Thanks to Lawsome Books and Netgalley for this review copy. This was my honest review.

A wonderful Christmas novella that you can enjoy in an evening. Freya is struggling to make it through the holidays running the farm on her own since her dad died. Amos, a wandering soul is helping her harvest the holly and mistletoe for sale at the market. Can a Christmas miracle keep the farm from being sold and bring love back into her life? A nice read with a hint of an angel. Enjoyable and heartwarming

This is a sweet book - full of hope and sparkles! Freya is a lovely woman, trying to hold onto her farm against all the odds. Even when she decides to sell, mentally she is unprepared to face the future away from her home.

I loved Amos. A mysterious man who appears and disappears as required and interferes just enough to resolve the situations. Sam and Stephen were brothers but like chalk and cheese...or so it seems.

I loved the way the mistletoe held the story together and seemed magical itself.

Can really recommend this one!

Freya’s life has pretty much turned upside down. When her father passed away, she was faced with a mountain of bills that she’d known nothing about – and the very real possibility of having to sell her home. Two brothers vie for the property, neither one is a person she’d sell to if given a choice. When the past collides with the present everyone usually loses… unless they get a bit of a Christmas miracle to pave the way to a brighter future.

I enjoyed Merry Mistletoe very much. Christmas is not a happy season for Freya, gone is the enjoyment of this blessed holiday. When faced with a man from her past that might hold the key to her future happiness, Freya has to make choices. While this story is a novella there is a powerful tale packed in this short story. Along with some lovely mistletoe history and the feel of a Christmas village of any timeframe. The past will always be there for us, sometimes we find ways around it and learn how to love again.

If you are addicted to Christmas stories, Merry Mistletoe will be one you’ll want to add to your collection for this year. Poignant and hopeful, this is a story that will warm your heart and believe in Christmas magic once again.

*I received an e-ARC of Merry Mistletoe from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*

When Freya's father dies the debts are mounting and so she feels she has no choice but to sell her childhood home Appleyard Farm. She is struggling with everything when along comes Amos who helps her with the farm and putting her life back together

The only potential buyers for the farm are the neighbours Sam and his brother Stephen, but what is the past between them all and can Amos help her overcome this

A great novella that had plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested and to help get you that Christmas feeling

Can never resist a gorgeous christmas cover so this is what drew me immediately to this novella - and my theory of good cover = good story has worked its' magic again!

if you're looking for a lovely christmas novella that will warm you on a cold winters night then this is the book for you! Immediately felt empathy with the main character, Freya Sherbourne, who is trying to continue the family business of growing mistletoe as the business of selling Sherbourne Mistletoe has been running for 100 years but since the death of her father it has been a real struggle for her. The reality of having to sell the family home and business is beginning to sink in for Freya but with the help of the mysterious but endearing Amos who seems to be in the right place at the right time, then the business lives on for another Christmas.

Poor Freya has also been unlucky in love in the past so tends to keep herself to herself and this isn't helped by the rival family business run by the Henderson brothers - Stephen (boo hiss!) and Sam who seems to do all the work and keeps a quieter, lower profile.. Enjoyed the dynamic between the brothers and Freya and the reader soon learns of their shared histories which really adds some twists to the story.

Really love how Freya never gave up despite her doubts and fears and all the curveballs that were thrown her way and highly recommend this for a warm, fuzzy feel good read this Winter!

A book that had twists and turns that weren’t expect but brought the joy of the holiday season early for me.

Emma Davies brought to life a beautiful orchard in the country along with a magical town at the holidays. Her main characters Freya, Amos, Stephan and Sam were well developed. Freya is having issues holding onto the past and Amos is a drifter who helps her come to grips with the past and face a wonderful future for her. With the death of Freya’s father she is finding it a struggle to make ends meet and the joy of the holidays aren’t seeming as bright. But Amos comes and helps with the orchard and in doing so helps Freya put her life back together.

Sam and his brother Stephan are not only competitors but potential buyers of Appleyard Farms. Sam, Stephan, and Freya have a past together but it is not known until later. Will Freya be able to look beyond the past do business with the brothers? Will she get to be happy again?

Emma Davis did a great job of keeping the reader engaged. I was so engrossed that I finished this book in one setting. The twists and turns, the love triangle, the emotional tug at your heart strings provided a very enjoyable book. I look forward to future work by Ms. Davis.

Even through her grief, Freya has to carry on selling mistletoe from the family farm. Sam and Stephen, owners of nearby Henderson farm, don't make it easy on her, as they want to buy her property in the middle of the Christmas season!

Davies writes a magical story, where Freya lets the wonder of the season speak to her through a mystery visitor. When Freya opens up her heart, she finds her happily ever after - and so does one of the Hendersons.

I liked that this novella was a light read but had a deep message. Davies reminds us that we can find happiness and love despite grieving a loved one. Tis the season.
