From #1 New York Times bestselling author Elsie Silver comes a small-town, forbidden, rivals-to-lovers romance, the first book in the brand-new Western romance series Emerald Lake.
Professional bull rider Emmett Bush is not looking for love. He’s looking for a paycheck to save his family’s farm from bankruptcy. So, when he agrees to be the leading man on a hot new reality dating show, Romance Ranch, he’s already decided it’s all one big performance.
Until Julia Silva walks onto his property. Smart, snarky, beautiful, and off-limits in more ways than one. As the location consultant on set and the little sister of his most bitter professional rival, she’s the last woman who should pique his interest.
Julia has been warned about Emmett. She knows better than to fall for his cocky swagger, broad shoulders, and smoldering good looks. Plus, she’s sworn off relationships.
But as Julia and Emmett work together, mutual distaste grows into an unexpected connection and then… something more.
Soon, they find themselves searching for excuses to spend time together and out of reach of the cameras. Knowing glances. Stolen kisses. Secret rendezvous.
Still, Emmett signed up to play the role of an eligible bachelor searching for the one. His family’s land and legacy depend on him completing the show.
The problem is, he’s already fallen in love.
Just not with a contestant.

I knew that I would enjoy this book, but I wasn’t expecting to fall head over heels for these characters, and I definitely wasn’t expecting this level of tenderness in a romance revolving around a f*ckboy.
The complex layers of Emmett’s character are so well done. Some scenes make you feel for him so deeply that it hurts. And the strength of Julia’s character is admirable, as Emmett would describe her, “she is a f*cking badass”.
I think one reason some romances can fall flat is that the characters have nothing to lose. It is two people who don’t want to risk getting their feelings hurt or their hearts broken. But with Fever Dream, both characters DO have so much to lose. As someone who has watched almost every dating show under the sun, it is hard not to pay attention to the BTS drama. The cast members who get involved with the crew have always been the drama I can never get enough of. Seeing it play out on the page reveals a whole new side to things.
I don’t know if I just loved the book because I felt so lucky to get an eArc (Thank you SO much Atria, I will forever be beyond grateful for the chance to read and review this story early), but something about Emmett and Julia feels like they will stay with me for a long, long time.
Fever Dream is so achingly tenderhearted in ways I was never expecting. I cannot WAIT to spend more time in Emerald Lake. I have a feeling we are all going to fall head over heels for this new town and the Brandt family.

Ahhhhh! We are back in the Elsie verse and I couldn't be happier. Emerald Lake and the Brandt family quickly stole my heart. Emmett Bush aka Emmett Brandt is not the persona he shares on the WBRF circuit. He is a guy from a small town, who loves his family and would do anything for them. It's amazing to see his layers slowly unraveled.
If you thought Elsie couldn't out due Crazy Clyde or Harvey you were wrong...enter Oma and Opa...and the whole Brandt crew. Also cameos from Loretta, Theo and Winter...say less.
Julia Silva is everything I imagined she would be and so much more. She's closed herself off bit by bit over the past two years and she didn't even realize the extent of it...until him. Emmett, her big brothers rival on the WBRF. She finds herself opening up to the supposedly arrogant, playboy in ways she never imagined...and he is soooooooo down bad.
They are everything, I love them endlessly.
This story felt like a breath of fresh air. Mark this as a must read for 2026.

this book had such a unique plot with the whole "reality dating show" scene going on and i genuinely liked reading something new
the mmc being theo's rival was everythingggg, i had been itching to read emmett's book since wild card but also the realization that this book was gonna centre around THE theo silva's sister was EVERYTHING TO ME. i loved theo so reading about julia was so great, i genuinely loved emmett and julia's story so much
julia is the location coordinator on the show and emmett is the main contestant who's supposed to be "finding love"...and he does...but now how we expect clearly
i always enjoy elsie's small town romances so much and i can't wait to keep reading about emerald lake, i just know we're about to get some amazing stories out of it 💜

Bravo Miss Silver, BRAVO!!! Emmett and Julia were fantastic today, a beautiful slow build with amazing chemistry. Oma gets an A+ as a side character too but for real, I legit loved Catherine. Im hoping she pops up again! Here for anything and everything Emerald Lake!
