Wild Word is a very informative, if informal look at several Old Testament miracles that many may be familiar with, but told with background information and new insights, and certainly a new delivery. The running commentary is engaging and would certainly appeal to teens and young adults in a discussion. The included study guide in the back of the book is a bonus and supports the biblical foundation. The casual tone in no way detracts from the seriousness of the subject, but I feel would encourage open discussion in a group that might be more reticent to join in otherwise. Wild Word was very enjoyable, and I look forward to more from Jaime Teele.
Wild Word is such a fun and surprisingly thoughtful walk through some of the Bible’s strangest, “wait… what?” moments—from talking animals and kings who lose their minds to prophets who argue with God like stubborn teenagers. What I loved most is how the author manages to keep the explanations simple, engaging, and even a little witty without losing the heart behind the stories. I honestly enjoyed reading it because it felt like sitting with a friend who finally explains the weird parts of Scripture in a way that actually makes sense and keeps you entertained the whole time.
If you think the Bible is dry toast, buckle up—this book flips the table AND the toaster.
Hi, I’m Paige Turner, and let me tell you—I had an absolute blast reading Wild Word! This book takes all the bonkers Bible moments we’ve side-eyed for years (talking donkeys? bears? a king turning into a grass-eating yard gnome?) and breaks them down in a way that’s actually fun, super easy to follow, and laugh-out-loud entertaining. I love how the author explains everything like your funniest friend who also somehow knows all the context your Sunday School teacher left out. If you like learning, laughing, or just saying “No way, that’s in the Bible?!”—you NEED this book in your hands.
