Description

What would a powerful few do if they believed the President of the United States was steering the world toward a new Cold War—or something far worse? This provocative question lies at the heart of this final book in the Sam Stanton saga, following The Extraterrestrial and When Mercy Died.

Set twenty-six years after the previous installment, the story now centers on Sam Stanton’s son—Sam Junior, or simply Junior—who has been trained from childhood to carry forward his father’s mission. But when father and son uncover a conspiracy involving congressional blackmail and the president’s covert plans for global dominance, they’re thrust into a high-stakes battle for the soul of the nation.

Turning to the Washington Post in a bid to ignite impeachment proceedings, they risk everything to expose the truth. But when the Senate trial falls short of removing the president, Sam and Junior are forced to consider a more radical course of action.

A Note From the Publisher

Peter Van Oossanen is a distinguished Dutch scientist, naval architect, and author. After earning his PhD from Delft University in 1974, he served as a principal scientist at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) until 1991. During this time, his groundbreaking research on sailing yachts contributed to the design of Australia II, the yacht that famously won the 1983 America’s Cup—marking the first time a challenger had defeated the USA since the competition’s inception in 1851.

In 1992, Peter founded the Van Oossanen Group of companies, specializing in yacht and ship design. His 1988 publication on the resistance and propulsion of ships became a definitive text in ship hydrodynamics, solidifying his reputation as a leading authority in the field—a distinction that earned him numerous awards and accolades.

Following his retirement in 2013, Peter turned his focus to writing, authoring five books that explore the science behind sailing. In 2020, he embarked on a new creative journey, transitioning to fiction and launching his career as a novelist.

Advance Praise

"Peter Van Oossanen is a great storyteller. Apart from the politically charged conflict and the exploration of the corruption of power, the relationship between Jocelyn and Sam kept me turning the pages." -- Readers Favorite
