Description

A much-anticipated winter trip to their weekend cabin on the river turns dark when Mack and Nancy's twelve-year-old foster daughter, Soolie, bolts after seeing what she thinks is a dead body in a farm field.

In this sequel to Lost Graces—winner of the Atmosphere Press 2024 Book of the Year Award—psychiatrist Nancy Thomas makes the mistake of agreeing to treat a famous writer. As she and Mack grapple with Soolie’s PTSD, they grow increasingly suspicious of a secretive bed-and-breakfast conference facility nearby. Their concerns launch them into a cascade of challenges more perilous than their winter canoeing on the tidal river.

Very little is as it seems in this fast-paced psychological thriller, involving a famous writer, a literary agent, a right-wing think tank, and a deeply flawed foster care system.

"The writing is tight, the pace runs at a fast clip, and there are huge amounts of top-down layering, literally from drones to fields, making the story sing." - Readers' Favorite
