Description

A missing girl. A haunted mountain. And a detective who can barely remember his own past.

When an eleven-year-old girl vanishes from her bedroom in the cold shadow of Kalanu Mountain, the entire county launches into a desperate search. But the only suspect—a damaged drifter with a history of harming children—claims he didn’t take her. He insists “the Raven Mocker” carried her off into the clouds.

Most call it madness.

Former investigator Tobias Atkins isn’t so sure.

Still recovering from the brutal attack that nearly killed him, Tobias is struggling with memory lapses, chronic pain, and the ghosts of a life he can’t fully remember. But when the kidnapper demands to speak only to him, Tobias is pulled back into a nightmare—one that weaves together Cherokee folklore, old mountain secrets, and the violent myths his grandfather once whispered by firelight.

With a winter storm closing in and time running out, Tobias teams up with Micki Trueblood, the tough, guarded daughter of his late best friend. Together, they hunt for the truth on a mountain that has buried many truths before.

Somewhere in the ravines, ruins, and ice-bitten trails, a child is waiting.

And something ancient may be waiting too.

A missing girl. A haunted mountain. And a detective who can barely remember his own past.

When an eleven-year-old girl vanishes from her bedroom in the cold shadow of Kalanu Mountain, the entire...

Chills, Legends, and a Mountain That Knows Too Much
This book grabbed me with its eerie folklore, wounded detective, and a mystery that feels as old and dangerous as the mountain itself.

Raven: A Kalanu Mountain Mystery opens with a chilling disappearance that immediately pulls the reader into a world where reason and legend collide. When a young girl vanishes under the looming presence of Kalanu Mountain, the search exposes more than a crime. It uncovers long buried secrets, uneasy truths, and a folklore many would rather dismiss as superstition. The mystery unfolds steadily, balancing procedural investigation with an atmosphere thick with dread and uncertainty.

At the center of the story is Tobias Atkins, a former investigator still recovering from a near fatal attack that has fractured both his body and his memory. His struggle to piece together his past mirrors the case itself, which resists easy answers. As Tobias is drawn back into the investigation, Cherokee mythology and mountain lore seep into every turn of the search, blurring the line between what can be explained and what cannot. The setting becomes more than a backdrop, transforming Kalanu Mountain into a living presence that shapes every decision and discovery.

The pacing builds with quiet intensity, leading readers through icy landscapes and psychological shadows toward a conclusion that feels earned rather than convenient. This is a mystery that lingers, inviting readers to question what they believe and what they fear long after the final page.

What if a missing kid case stopped being normal and started getting downright creepy fast? Because that is exactly what happens here. I flew through this book because the tension never lets up and the mountain feels like it is watching you the whole time. I loved how the story mixes real danger with old legends and makes you question everything you think you know. This is the kind of mystery that keeps you reading late because you have to know what is real and what is not. Totally worth the ride from start to finish 🔥🦅
