Description
A retelling of the Norse legend of the Volsungs, derived from the Poetic Edda, rendered in expressive yet accessible modern prose:
His home is conquered, His father slain, His mother enslaved, And the boy is hidden.
Taken by the Dwarven smith Reginn into the mountain’s densest forest, Sigurd, Blood of Odin and heir to the Volsung throne, Devotes himself to study and training, So that he may reclaim his birthright.
This is the tale of the mightiest of Norse heroes, Growing from keen-witted boy to wizened man, From outcast and vagabond to rightful king restored.
The slayer of the dragon Fafnir, The hunter of raging Jotun and fierce vargr, He who rescues the entrapped Valkyrie from her enchanted slumber, And who may yet defeat the clan’s age-old enemy, And rout the Hunding hoards, And so thwart sly Loki’s schemes.

The Saga of the Volsung King retells the legend of Sigurd in a way that feels both epic and personal, following his life from a hidden child of a fallen kingdom to a man shaped by gods, monsters, and hard choices. I really enjoyed how the story took its time with Sigurd’s growth and training instead of rushing straight to the famous moments like the dragon and the Valkyrie. The world felt rich and serious without being hard to follow, and I found myself pulled into the myth and emotion behind the story. It was the kind of book that made me slow down and really sink into the journey.

Born in blood...
Raised in shadows...
Crowned by destiny...
The Saga of the Volsung King grabbed me fast and did not let go. We start with a kid who loses everything and somehow survives long enough to become a dragon slayer king and that alone had me hooked. What I loved most is that Sigurd does not just wake up heroic. He earns every step through pain training doubt and some truly wild encounters. This is big bold Norse storytelling with heart and bite and it made the legends feel alive again. If you like gods meddling fate looming and a hero who grows the hard way you need this book 📖🔥
