What a delightful, clever, and visually stunning picture book! "Winnie the Witch" is a classic for a reason. It’s a perfect blend of humor, heart, and a gentle lesson that resonates with readers young and old.
Valerie Thomas’s storytelling is pitch-perfect for young children, with a repetitive structure that’s both engaging and easy to follow. The book’s real magic, though, is in Korky Paul’s illustrations. The details and colors are a visual treat, and the pages are packed with funny details and slapstick energy that make every reading feel fresh.
Perfect for ages 3–7, this book is a must-read for families, classrooms, and anyone who loves a bit of magical mischief. Highly recommended!

Absolutely LOVED this book! The illustrations were stunning and the book was cute and silly and so lovely! I read with my 8 year old and he laughed and gave it a big thumbs up after.
Seeing this book, warms my heart!
I grew up with Winnie the Witch books in Ireland and seeing it return for a new generation is so nostalgic and uplifting because this book is just that sweet, funny and full of wonder. Children's books have such simple but sweet stories and this book showcases this, why change your cat/someone you love when you can change the setting so everyone is happy.
Cute writing style for all ages🖤
Nice full color images that are beautiful + fun
I really liked Winnie the witch 🧙
Okay but why is Winnie and Wilbur actually hilarious??
My 7-year-old was locked in. My 5-year-old was cracking up. And I was sitting there like… wait a second, this witch really said “let me change the CAT first” instead of the house?! The chaos…I loved it!!
It’s that kind of silly that kids think is genius and adults secretly appreciate even more. The whole situation just spirals in the most ridiculous way, and my kids were yelling out what they thought she should do instead. It was fun to hear what my kids thought was a more appropriate solution.
It’s fun to read out loud, too. You can get totally dramatic with it. This is one of those books where you don’t feel like you’re just powering through bedtime, you’re actually enjoying it.
If you’ve got littles in the 4–8 range, add this to your list. It’s playful, a little mischievous, and just genuinely fun.
Five stars from this house.
