Description
Celebrate the seasons with this delightful collection of 50 haiku that illuminate the wonders of the natural world and brief moments in time.
Time for Haiku invites young readers on a poetic journey through the seasons. Arranged from fall to winter and then spring to summer, this charming collection of haiku captures the small, fleeting sensory wonders of the natural world: the hush of falling snow, the rhythm of ocean waves, the shimmer of sun on golden sand, and the sound of waves in a seashell.
Each poem serves as a gentle bridge between language and science, making the traditional Japanese haiku form both accessible and enriching for elementary students. Luciano Lozano’s Japanese art–inspired illustrations, with their minimalist brushstrokes and dynamic perspectives, bring each seasonal moment to life with warmth and whimsy.
Back matter includes a brief history of haiku and a guide to writing them, encouraging young poets to create their own reflections on the world around them.

A beautiful introduction to haikus for children. Time for Haiku takes you on a simple journey through the seasons with haikus befitting each one and gorgeous illustrations to go along with each poem. It is the perfect way to introduce the art form with kids. The inclusion of lessons on haiku writing and appreciation for the art form in the back of the book is a good addition.
What an absolutely lovely introduction to this contemplative poetry form for readers of all ages! I am especially in awe of the prowess of the translator to take structured lines and make them sing in English, well done. The calm, soothing colors and lines of the accompanying art make this little volume ideal for young eyes. I especially enjoyed the outline and guidance for haiku writing exercises at the end.
This little book would find a good home in a child’s room, any personal poetry collection, a library, a classroom, or even a nursing home or long term care facility. Just perfection.

Time for Haiku is a nostalgic collection of poetry starting in autumn and ending in summer. Both the artwork and the poetry remind me of my childhood and how it felt to explore the world. Its a great introduction to haiku for kids.
Time for Haiku by Josep Santaeulàlia is a great book to teach children poetry. It helps them learn how to write and read Haiku's.
This is an adorable introduction to haikus for young readers, but honestly, I fell like readers of all ages would find enjoyment reading this collection of poems. The illustrations pair so well with each poem and help translate the meanings of the poems. At the end of the book, there is more information about what a haiku is, where it originates from, and even an activity on how to write one on your own. I think this book would make a great learning resource for parents who homeschool.
This book was darling! It was fun reading it to a little reader and talking about the seasons and poems. While the poems are geared toward children, I still really enjoyed reading them and even picked out one or two favorites as we read through.
The information in the back of the book about traditional Haikus and the history of Haiku was really interesting and even kept the attention of my little listener. I love poetry, and this was a fun, interesting way to introduce poetry to a younger reader.
Also, the illustrations are incredibly cute.

"Time for Haiku: Four Seasons of Poems" is a lovely introduction to reading haiku and makes following along the seasonal changes a beautiful journey for readers of all ages. The poetry and illustrations in this book are sweet and simple in the best way. My children and I all enjoyed this and had fun writing our own haiku following the guide at the end of the book.
Thank you to the authors, Publisher Spotlight and NetGalley for a copy of "Time for Haiku: Four Seasons of Poems" in exchange for my honest review.
This book is quite beautiful and very easy to read, making it a great introduction to haiku for readers of all ages, not just children. The poems are short but thoughtful. I especially liked how the seasonal shifts are reflected in both the poems and the artwork, everything felt connected and smooth. The illustrations are a great highlight to each poem. They are simple but still stunning and eye-catching, I thought they really added depth to each poem without overpowering the words. The short guide at the end is a nice touch and makes the book feel inviting, like it’s encouraging readers to try writing haiku themselves.
Thanks to NetGally for the Arc!
