Description
Joshua has inherited leadership of the Israelites and the divine imperative to provide them a homeland entirely their own. Before him, Jericho and the nations of Canaan glimmer with arms, wealth and impure blood. Can the soft-hearted Joshua clean away the pagans? Can his virtue persevere in the face of Israel's fearsome destiny? Can the Chosen People remain good so long as they remain chosen? Joshua and the Chosen People is a fictional retelling of the conquest of the Holy Land. Firmly committed to portraying the humanity of both conquerors and conquered, Joshua and the Chosen People will make you question the value of "proud heritage" and the nature of goodness.

Chosen, Powerful, and Impossible to Ignore
This story was amazing - with epic stakes, complicated choices, and a leader who feels the weight of every life on his shoulders.
This was such an unexpectedly deep read. Joshua and the Chosen People takes the familiar story of the Israelites entering Canaan and turns it into a very human, emotional, and morally complicated story about leadership, belief, and the cost of conquest. Joshua is not just a heroic figure but a man carrying fear, doubt, and responsibility for thousands of lives, and I really loved how the book also shows the people on the other side of the conflict as real families, not just enemies. It made me think a lot about what it means to call something destiny and whether being “chosen” always means being right. I enjoyed this because it felt intense and thoughtful at the same time, with strong scenes and characters that stayed with me after I finished.
I was not ready for how hard this book was going to hit me.
I picked this up thinking epic historical battle story and instead got pulled into a wild, emotional ride about power, faith, and the messy side of destiny. Joshua is not some untouchable hero, he is stressed, unsure, and trying to lead people through decisions that could destroy lives, and that made everything feel real. The tension around Jericho, the spying, the strategy, the moral questions about who is right and who pays the price, I could not look away. This is the kind of book that makes you feel the dust, the fear, and the weight of every choice, and I kept thinking about it even when I put it down. If you like historical fiction with big stakes and real emotional punch, read this. 🔥📖
