Description
Nantucket is the perfect place for a new beginning.
Claire Shipman never imagined she'd be the single mom of a teenager, going through a contentious divorce, and unexpectedly pregnant. On the bright side, at least she's on Nantucket, where she grew up, and where her mother and grandmother welcome her home with open arms.
For years, Claire lived an enviable Manhattan lifestyle. Until her ex had a marriage-ending affair and also lost his job and all their money. Claire's high school friends invite her to their book club and an off-hand joke that she could sell one of her Hermes bags sparks a business idea.
Her friend's brother, Cody, is a furniture builder with a spare storefront. He's initially skeptical about the prospects of a "used handbag shop".
But Claire is determined. With the support of Lily, her mother, grandmother, old friends and new, she begins to build a true second chance at a new life.

Love love love this book! Everyone should buy it for the summer. Claire is such a loveable character and her store idea was just perfect. It was fun that other characters from her Nantucket books showed up in very interesting ways. This was an all around favorite for me and I will definitely be recommending it!!
Pamela Kelley is easily one of my favorite authors for quick, enjoyable beach reads! I was immediately drawn into this book and did t want to put it down. One of my favorite things about all of her books is the exquisite detail that makes me feel like I’m right there in the story!
Wow!! Wow!! Wow!!! Pamela Kelley proves time after time why she's one of my absolute favorite authors. Nantucket Second Chances is her latest feel good book. It's the kind of book that makes you pause when you're done and relive what you've just read. Another purely magical escape to Nantucket that will have you daydreaming for a long time.
This delightful read follows Claire, who recently returns home to Nantucket after her husband leaves her for a younger woman. Finding herself unexpectedly pregnant, she and her teenage daughter move in with her mother. Needing a way to support herself and her daughter, she opens a small shop selling her used high-end bags and shoes, along with other smaller island gifts. What comes from this venture is so much more than a means of survival. Friendship, loyalty, love, and support are also a benefit of this new journey.
It didn't matter that I was reading this during a blizzard and not at the beach. The vivid descriptions of the ocean, salt air, and shops had me convinced I was actually on Nantucket. Beach bags will be begging to have this little gem of a read thrown into them, and if you don't add it to yours, I'm pretty sure your bag will reach out and grab it for you. This is a powerful story centering around family, friendships, and new beginnings. As always, Kelley nails it with the ocean scenery and the absolute mouth watering food descriptions.

Pamela's Nantucket stories are such examples of strong women and their families. She writes with such detail about Nantucket and the experiences of the characters. It is no wonder why she is one of my favorite authors. Claire is starting over after an unexpected divorce while expecting a baby from that failed marriage. She is a woman who is an example of strength and resilience. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley, and this is my honest review. Read it!

Although this book's characters have plenty of problems in their lives Ms. Kelley addresses these but in a calm quiet way so that the reader can acknowledge the misfortunes but yet not feel anxious. I think that if most women found themselves in Claire's position they would have a nervous breakdown, but Claire just pivots. That is how most of this book is. In a way, the plot has lots of ins and outs in it, but the author doesn't dig deep with any of them. But what she does provide is a pleasurable read with no sturm and drang, but yet capturing the sites, sounds, and flavors of Nantucket. Sometimes after reading about all the ills of the world in fiction (and non-fiction), it is fun to read a book where everything works out for everybody.

Pamela Kelley writes magical stories set in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Nantucket Island is the perfect getaway spot for anyone looking for windswept beaches, delicious food, an amazing bookstore, or quiet evenings watching the sunset. Claire Shipman grew up on Nantucket and when her life turned into a real life reality show she took the first flight out of NYC and headed back home, where all her dreams began.
Claire never could have imagined, at the age of 38, living with her mother again, but that is where she found herself, along with most of her worldly belongings, or at least the designer pieces she could sell if she ran out of money. You see, Claire’s useless husband had left her for a younger model and he was moving on with his life, while, surprise, surprise, she was pregnant, 16 years after her daughter Lily had been born. Luckily she had a roof over her head, her mom to comfort her, and her best friend, Rachel to lament with. Her daughter quickly joined her because she wanted nothing to do with her father’s mid-life crises. They were a house full of women, ready to conquer the world. Claire and Lily fit right into Nantucket life as if they had been there forever. Lily loved her new friends at the high school, Claire started her own business, and the drama of the past seemed to disappear into the morning mist. Claire left her old world behind and began a new life full of hope, new beginnings, and possibly, a second chance at love.
I'm so excited to tell you that Pamela Kelley is back with her wonderful Nantucket series! This time, she's focusing on Claire Shipman, a Nantucket native and Manhattan transplant who is back on the island during a tumultuous divorce from her husband. Claire is unexpectedly expecting again and has her 16-year-old daughter, Lily to support! She's living with her mom and really trying her best to make money to support her two lovely children as a single mother. She's selling some of her luxury items to make ends meet after her poor husband lost everything in a bad deal. Along the way, Claire learns that Nantucket is the perfect place to start over with Nantucket Second Chances. Hey, throw this book in your bag for a summer day by the beach-It's the perfect read for a day out!

Nantucket Second Chances is a great little beach read! Claire and her daughter, Lily, escape to Nantucket where Claire grew up after Claire's husband blindsides her with a divorce request and that his assistant is pregnant with his child. Claire also finds out she is also pregnant. Claire feels she needs to find a way to support herself as her estranged husband declares he is broke. She starts a second hand shop for luxury items. A the story continues from there. Great strong women portrayed in the book with Claire, her daughter Lily, and her mother Marsha.

Stay at home mom Claire Shipman is thrilled with her surprise pregnancy, 14 years after her daughter, Lilly, was born. But she is more surprised when her financier husband, Ellis, asks for a divorce because he is seeing a 22 year old from his office who is ALSO pregnant. Claire takes Lilly and moves home to stay with her mother on Nantucket while she sorts out her new life.
Ellis soon informs Claire that he was fired from his lucrative job, and will only be able to give her a minimal monthly stipend. She scrambles to look for a job on the island, but since it is off-season, she has no luck.
Claire resorts to selling one of her very expensive designer bags to a friend of a friend, which brings a hefty amount and shores up her finances in the short run. The bag no longer has any sentimental value to Claire, since it was one of many gifts from her soon-to-be ex. This gives Claire the idea of starting an upscale second hand store, which she names Nantucket Second Chances. She sets up shop in a space shared with Cody, a furniture builder as well as the brother of a friend. Over the next few months, Claire expands to selling all of her designer bags and shoes and consignments for other people as well.
I enjoyed this book with Claire’s innovations to support herself and Lilly as they move on with their lives, her budding friendship with Cody, as well as a few twists and turns. Recommend.

Yes, what Claire had to go through was extremely traumatic as she was blindsided by Ellis coupled with her own pregnancy, but the second chances that she experienced and more importantly, created, found her with a life filled with love, support and joy in her finding herself again. In many ways, Nantucket was also a character in book. The reader could feel the ocean breeze, imagine eating at the Brotherhood of Thieves, and donning clothes of Nantucket Red. She even mentions Elin Hildebrand who represents Nantucket in a similar vein. I also enjoyed reading about the food they ate and clothing they donned. I felt it really made the reader feel immersed in the lives of Claire, Marsha, Lilly and Grammy. I cheered Claire on as she struck out on her own both business wise but also how strong she became when she fought for herself and Lilly to gain the support they deserved from Ellis. I was so glad that Lilly recognized her talents as a songwriter and singer. That is why when both Claire and Lilly recognized who was standing right in front of them was the person they were meant to be with, they were at a point of strength and self confidence. They knew that they could stand up for themselves, but with the community they created on Nantucket, it was so much better together with those they loved.
I liked this book especially about second chances . Claire and her daughter Lily were good in this book.
This is a great summer book , and a great ending to some sad things in the book unplanned pregnancy, divorce.

Pamela Kelley's books are like a warm hug. They were made for the hallmark channel. And for people who like a good story, you're not gonna find any spice or vulgarity, but you're gonna find a good sweet story with a little bit of drama a little bit of Strife. But at the core is sweetness and family, and I love all of her books. They take place on Nantucket, which sounds like such a beautiful place. This one has our girl Claire who finds out her husband had an affair. And is leaving her for a way younger.A woman who happens to be pregnant, which is an odd timing considering. Claire is also- not knowing what to do, she leaves Manhattan. And her life and goes home to her mom in Nantucket, where she grew up, she's not real sure what she's gonna do to support herself. And her daughter, and the one on the way, but she might have an idea. When somebody makes a comment on her cute bag that matches her sweater and thus second, chances is born like I said, it's a super cute story. Little bit of twisty drama. But a super cool cast of characters, love reading Pamela Kelley's books because you always get little visits and side notes from her characters- which is probably how it is, considering Nantucket, is probably not that big if you're looking for a sweet feel good story. This is it, look no further

Pamela Kelley is one of my favorite authors for quick, enjoyable reads! I love that other characters from her Nantucket books show up. One of my favorite things about all of her books is that Nantucket is like another character in the book. I feel transported there by her stories.

As I started reading Nantucket Second Chances Pamela Kelley worked her way with words to make me feel like I had arrived on the island ready to start my new life. Old and new friends, family members, book club and a scary jump starting a new business while awaiting giving birth to an unexpected baby left Claire to face a whole new lifestyle.
Pamela Kelley is an auto buy author for me and Nantucket Second Chances is a wonderful addition to my collection.
Five stars from me.
