I couldn't sleep I wanted to finished it

An intriguing story of a young girl kidnapped from her home and forced to live in the back rooms of a kings palace with other children her same age.Why were all thirteen year old orphans gathered up and imprisoned there? How does she fit in, she is not an orphan she lived with her father and brother. There are lots of mysteries in this fairytale-like story and each clue adds to the mystery. This book was a fascinating read and I couldn't put it down. It ends at a huge cliffhanger and I can hardly wait for the next book in the series!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story about a young girl, Avery, who is kidnapped by an old woman on her thirteenth birthday. Avery is forced to live, hidden away in a castle with other children who all are the same age. She is desperate to find out what became of her young brother who was with her when she was taken, her father who was not there when she disappeared and her mother who vanished two years before.

This is marketed as a Christian book for young children ages 10 to 15. Since my children would have loved this at an earlier age than the recommend ones, I think it would be suitable for children as young as 5--perhaps with an adult reading it to them. I like that it was a Christian book and how the authors "showed" Christianity . We see bits and pieces of what it's like to be a Christian in the behavior of some of the children who are caring and friendly with everyone. Then we find out that they hold church services in an abandoned chapel and the kindest children that we have been introduced to are members of that church. The authors chose to "show" Christianity instead of having long sermons, and I think that is a nice touch for young readers.

I can't wait until the next book comes out. This is sure to be another classic series for children.

Ok, the book itself is amazing definitely 5 star worthy. I loved it! ... but I wanted to scream where it left off! Only part 1 of the story and the next portion at least 6 months away is beyond frustrating. Especially since this book is only half the length of the last book I read, seemingly purposely broken up to sell more books. A feature I don't appreciate. I don't mind series but for heaven sake not without some closure at the end of each part. By all means read this book, but wait a few months to save yourself the torture.

On a side note- I think the description of being a cross of Alice in Wonderland and the Chronicles of Narnia is misleading. It's nothing like either. It's not magical like Wonderland, but based in a fairy tale like reality... no talking cats, witches, magic or God personified... just a normal girls faith in a slightly fanciful historical setting. Maybe some unnessicary name dropping to attract readers or someone's honest opinion but in my case that was almost a deterant. If I wanted to read stories like those, I would read them, this series stands alone and is great in it own way.

I was intrigued by the description of what this story entailed and so I requested this book on Net-Galley never dreaming that I would find such a wonderful book.
As I flipped through the pages in this book, and learned more about the puzzle of the Castle, I became more confused. More and more questions that were unanswerable popped up in my mind, just as the author would have you ask. This books ending leaves many questions unanswered but in a good way.
A child, who is taking care of her brother, is kidnapped and brought to the Castle as a prisoner. She does not know why she was brought there, what the rules are or why there are other 13 year olds tucked away as servants in the castle. Just when she gets some answers to her questions, more questions arise.
This author has weaved a fairy tale and has beckoned us come and read. Escape is the ultimate goal and the more you read, the less you want to escape this fairy tale world.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I have 4 children, and I believe that my 11 year old girl would love this book and this series. It might be a little young for my 15 year old girl, but it is a good book, so I will invite her to read it anyway.
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Avery and her little brother are running away from their pursuer but they cannot escape and are captured. When she awakens she is in a castle where she learns the King is sick and trying to replace his lost son. No one knows what happened to his son. The solution they think is to round up all the orphans and get rid of them but the children have other ideas. Now the children have knowledge that could bring down the kingdom. Even though this was marketed as a Christian book I found this was not intrusive in any way to any one person’s religious beliefs no matter what he or she may believe. It was written in a very tasteful manner showing Christianity thru the actions of the children in the story. This is going to be a great series for young readers. Great read. I would like to thank the Publishers and Net Galley for the chance to read this ARC.

Avery's thirteenth birthday didn't go exactly as she'd planned - after all, that was the day she was kidnapped by and old woman. The woman has taken her to the castle, where Avery is dropped off to hide in the unused areas of the castle with all of the orphaned thirteen-year-olds of the kingdom. There, Avery learns that even beautiful castles hold dark secrets. Desperate to escape and find her little brother and her father, Avery will need to uncover those darkest secrets and find the strength hiding in herself.

I had no idea what to expect when I started this story. I recognized the authors - Trisha White Priebe from A Sherlock Holmes Devotional - which I really like - and Jerry B. Jenkins from the Left Behind series (of course), as well as books like Riven and I, Saul. Honestly, the authors were why I decided to give this one a go. I didn't realize how wrapped up in the story I would get...but it happened! It turned out to be a great coming-of-age fairy tale with well-crafted, interesting characters and enough mystery to keep you thoroughly engaged.

I would highly recommend this story to a wide variety of readers. As an adult, I definitely enjoyed it, and I can imagine that the target audience (middle grade youths) would relish it just as much. My only disappointment? The sequel (The Ruby Moon) doesn't come out until the Fall of 2016!

Many thanks to Barbour Publishing and NetGalley for the free copy of this book for review purposes. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my very own! :)

I loved this book. It grabbed me from the very first page and held on until the end. I could hardly put it down. I didn't know that this was a first in a series or at least the first of two books, so be prepared for a cliffhanger at the end. It is fast paced and keeps you guessing at the all the secrets that are hidden inside the castle. I would highly recommend it to all who love a good mystery. Appropriate for all ages but would probably recommend for ages 10 and up.

It was intriguing to read about a place where children served as servants in order to protect them from people who would kill them if they knew who they were.
I would recommend this book to those who are interested in Christian fantasy and mystery stories.
Avery and her brother are kidnapped and taken to a castle on her 13th birthday. At the castle Avery is part of a group of children who serve a royal couple.
Averys' mother, who is deceased, has given her clues about her identity and gradually she finds these clues and begins to learn who her mother was and who she is. Avery makes friends with the other children and she uses her talent to serve the royal couple.

*I received this title from Netgalley for an exchange for a honest review. That does not change my opinion of this book at all.

Summary:
Avery and her brother Henry were suddenly captured by a spooky woman. Avery is separated from her brother, and has no idea where she is. Soon, she finds herself in the king's castle with a bunch of other orphaned thirteen year olds. With every answer Avery gets, ten more questions pop into her head. There is so many mysteries within the castle and its Avery's job to find out and get back to her family.
Elements I liked:
Wow! I LOVED this book! I read it with every chance I got and could not put it down until my mom forced me. The writing that Priebe and Jenkins used was magnificent. The complex sentences with adjectives they slipped in there was awesome. The storyline was super amazing. This book is literally the next best thing to Harry Potter. (And yes, I just went there). It left off at a cliffhanger, but that Just makes me want to read the next book more. Personally I think a series is better than a stand alone book. Also, the Christian theme in this book was good, but not in every chapter like some might think. They kind of slipped it in there when needed, but I like that.
Comments: The Glass Castle is going on favorite shelf on Goodreads. I adore this book! This is must read for fantasy lovers. I can't wait for the sequel to come out!

I really enjoyed this book - my only complaint was that I didn't want it to end or wanted the sequel to be ready right now! Avery and her group of 13 year olds seem old for their age but given the time frame, it is believable - kids grow up fast in hard times. There are twist and turns and questions around every corner of the castle... I am eagerly awaiting the next book.

This is a interesting story, a dying king needs a heir to his throne, a woman dead set on marring the king will do ANYTHING to marry him. The king did have a child thirteen years ago by his first wife but was told they both in child birth. Since than all thirteen year olds in that time frame have been round up and hidden away in the castle walls doing tasks for the castle inhabitants, hoping that some day they can go back to their families. Until one day a special girl arrives and it all changes.
This is a awesome story it has you rooting for the underdog, but also sometimes you can't believe that people don't know that there aren't people around helping, spying, whatnot. But when the group of thirteen year olds figure out the big picture, than figure out the prince might be one of them, what are they to do?
This was a really great book, the characters, and the story are well formed, the whole thing is set up for a book 2 , which will hopefully answer some left over questions. Stay tuned hopefully I get to review that one too.

The Glass Castle, written by Trisha White Priebe & Jerry B. Jenkins, was by far one of my best reads last 2015. It was a nice young adult mystery story that will keep your curiosity spiked. Reading its first few pages got my mind wired up that I devoured each page with a bookworm's delight. I even shared a bit of the synopsis with a friend of mine because it was too good. I feel like I was in a reading schlump that finding this in a dusty to-be-read list was like finding a rare gem.

This book is just appropriate for tweens or teens. The play of words and the writing style are both suitable for their comprehension. Also, it has a very lively depiction of the setting, the period, etc. that you would most likely feel like you're being transported in the book. Plot-wise, it was full of chapters with numerous cliff-hangers that I found myself on the edge of my seat. I can't help but read more and more of it to find clues and figure out the answers to all of my questions.

I can't wait for the next book. It's definitely a good start and I am looking forward to what's in store for me next. I recommend this book to those who likes a bit of fantasy and mystery, and who had enough of insta-love in their YA books.

In the book The Glass Castle, authors Trisha Priebe and Jerry B. Jenkins introduce the reader to Avery who is celebrating her 13th birthday. But this exciting day takes a dark turn for all the 13 years olds are being rounded up and taken away to the castle.
The authors do a great job of moving the story along and keep you guessing until the end with many twists and turns in the story.
I would highly recommend this book for any reader 12 and up. I look forward to more books from these two authors. I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

First off I really enjoy Jenkins writing and when I saw this book (Wonderland meets Narnia) I had to pick it up. What transpires in this tale is a prefect story to share with not just middle school kids but the whole family.

I love a good fairy tale and from the very start this delightful book reads like one. With a gorgeous setting ready for our heroes to arrive, The Glass Castle welcomes readers in like an old friend. The characters from Avery to her younger brother are complex and the mystery behind the missing prince keeps you guessing to the very last page. I am truly excited for kids to read this one and have added it to our evening reading plan. For those looking for good wholesome fantasy and a thrilling mystery, look no further.

Nothing is certain and no one is safe.

If you enjoy reading books with others and especially your children, this is a great book to read together and discuss virtues such as honor, sacrifice, courage, integrity, and faith in God.

It opens with Avery our protagonist and her young brother playing in the woods. Today she is celebrating her 13th birthday. It is a birthday that she would like to forget as she and her brother are abducted. She finds herself in the castle with other 13 year olds hidden away. She has no ideal what happened to her brother. And she does not know what her abductors what from her or why. As she learns about the castle and others that are there with her, the stories become similar to those that her mother use to share with her. It is these stories that have significance. Avery is desperate to save herself and her family. Will she and will she discover what evil lurks in the castle?

I will have to find out the rest of the story in the next installment. I am looking forward to it. Some of the quotes that I found to be great conversation starters with the kiddos.

Everyone here needs something, and everyone here can offer something. When people feel useless, they become unproductive, and when that happens, chaos ensures.

This chapel is a great place for self-reflection. We don't worship to reflect on ourselves. We worship to reflect on God.

A king, after all, belongs to his people.

You've got to stop trying to get out of here and start figuring out why you're here in the first place.

A contrast of characters and plot...a great read by all.

This story is about a girl who is kidnapped on her birthday to save her from a new law that says that all orphans age 13 are to be killed. She is taken to where she can be protected and finds out secrets that she never realized before from her past. I liked the main character Avery because of her loyalty to her family and her talent for art and music.

So, thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the back of the book description was deceptive and didn't actually represent what the book was about. Other then that I loved the book. The characters were really developed and interesting.

I loved the plot line. The book was enthralling, I was fully engrossed until the end. I loved that this was a Christian book. That even though the characters are going through an enormously hard time they still go to church, they still pray, and they still depend on god.

The writing is really amazing. Complex but easy to read. I really appreciate finding a YA novel that doesn't have cussing. It sometimes makes me uncomfortable. I know that when I read this series that there wont be any cussing of sexual relationships. This book series is really one in a million, a rare gem in the sea of inappropriate books.

This is a fantastic book series and I can't wait for the next book.

I thought this was a great YA read by Trisha White Priebe and Jerry B Jenkins. I have been a fan of Jerry B Jenkins for forever so I was glad to see him writing a YA series now. This is the first book in the Thirteen series.

Avery goes out on her thirteenth birthday with her brother and is abducted by a scary old woman. When Avery wakes up in a room with other thirteen year olds, she is worried about her brother and what they have done with him. Avery is told that any attempt made to escape will result in his brother getting hurt.

The king is about to die and is looking for an heir to take his place. There is a woman that will do anything to marry him and she is the one responsible for having all the thirteen year old in the town rounded up. The king and his first wife apparently had a child together but he was told that they both died in childbirth. The new queen does not believe that the child is dead so she is determined to find the king's child.

This is a great read for young readers. It is also a very good start to a great series. There are lots of unanswered questions that the authors leave us with at the end of this book but I am sure it is just setting everything up for the next book in the series. Great read!
