Until the Last Dog Dies by Andy Herring is a very nice story that gripped me from the start. I practically cried throughout the whole book. The story blends themes of loyalty, survival, and the unbreakable bond between humans and their dogs against a backdrop of apocalyptic chaos.
Finn’s journey from the streets of London to the tranquil Sussex countryside sets the stage for an interesting narrative filled with unexpected twists. The tension escalates as Finn, alongside his loyal dog Doug, confronts an extraterrestrial threat, known ominously as The Greys. I loved reading “Doug’s Journal” and his thoughts; I felt sad for him, and his comments and thoughts made me think of my doggies. I also really liked Alek and Scout. The ending was sad but really good.
What I found particularly compelling was how the author explored the characters’ emotional connections. Finn’s love for Sarah and his unwavering loyalty to Doug resonate throughout the story. Ultimately, the book's comment is about ordinary people who choose to be extraordinary, and it is more than just a tale of survival against alien invaders; it is a story about the human spirit, loyalty, and the fight for what truly matters.
