Description
A slow-burn lesbian romance with a kinky twist!
From critically acclaimed creator Stjepan Šejic (Death Vigil, Ravine, Aphrodite lX, Witchblade) comes Sunstone, a love story like no other. Now presented in a 6x9 edition featuring all-new cover art by Stjepan Šejic.
Lisa’s tastes were always...unique. Longing to be restrained, without restraint. Lisa always felt like something was missing from her love life—until she met Ally. Ally was implacably ordinary—successful job, nice house, an average childhood—except for her preference for bedroom domination.
Originally posted online as a webcomic, this book collects the first volume of the often erotic, always amusing, and surprisingly heartfelt Sunstone.
**Sunstone is a slow-burn, friends-to-lovers, soft domme/anxious sub, graphic novel series featuring explicit on-the-page intimacy, healthy, negotiated BDSM, emotional vulnerability, and two women slowly realizing they’re in love. Not suitable for anyone under 18 years of age.**

I love this! The story.. the graphics.. this is just incredible! Lesbian erotica with Bdsm and a twist!
Fun, Flirty, and Fantastic!
Sunstone Vol. 1 is just ridiculously charming in all the best ways. It is the kind of story that wraps you up in its warmth, humor, and heartfelt character moments before you even realize how attached you’ve become. What really grabbed me is how sweet and earnest the dynamic between our main characters feels. Their relationship is built on trust, communication, and genuine vulnerability rather than spectacle. The whole thing radiates a tender, awkward adorableness that makes you smile through the entire read, and the art style amplifies that softness beautifully. The spice is next level, and if that is something you're into, you're going to love this story. It’s a bold, daring comic in its themes, and the storytelling keeps everything grounded in emotional honesty, making the journey feel more thrilling, more human, and ultimately more fun than I expected. Don't miss this one!
Definitely had me in a chokehold!!
Read it in about an hour or two!!
Page turner from the beginning! Couldn’t put it down!!
I was left wanting more!! Overall it was cute seductive and Hot!! I will be looking for the next volume!! Definitely a great read and will be recommending this book to all my Domm friends!!
I got this as an arc on Netgalley and a new version will come out in March. I'm so excited this series is getting a revamp! I read vol 1 a while back and then couldn't get vol 2. Since it seems all volumes will be getting a make over, I can't wait to continue the series. This first volume is so good. This sapphic bdsm story line is hot, relatable and funny as hell.
I love Allycat and Lisa.
I already know their entire story as a graphic novel and I'm thrilled to be able to write a review here.
They're witty, hot, nerdy, and so hilarious at times.
BDSM is, of course, a big part of the story, as is love.
Friends-to-lovers and a slow burn love story.
It's a beautifully drawn graphic novel.
A slow-burn lesbian romance with a lot of kink!
Thanks so much for the ARC!

I went into Sunstone, Vol 1 expecting something kink heavy and provocative, but what I found was surprisingly tender, emotionally grounded, and incredibly thoughtful.
Yes, it's explicit. There's nudity. There are scenes that will absolutely make you blush. But what makes this story work is that the intimacy never feels hollow. The emotional connection carries the physicality, not the other way around.
I genuinely appreciated how respectfully BDSM was portrayed. The respectful establishment of boundaries, consent, and aftercare felt intentional and grounded. The characters calling themselves nerds, navigating insecurity, fumbling through vulnerability, it made kind feel accessible rather than performative. It felt human.
Lisa's emotional journey felt clear and layered. You can see her shift from fantasy towards something deeper. With Ally, I felt a bit more emotional ambiguity in this first volume, her loneliness and her struggle between greeting Lisa as a friend or submissive is clear, but her emotions are less defined in a deeper sense this volume. I feel like this left room for her to grow in future volumes.
But honestly, the nuance, emotional care, and the way these two slowly learn each other in and out of their roles made me fully invested. I'm absolutely going to continue the series and see where their dynamic evolves.
This isn't just erotica. Its a story about vulnerability, communication, and connection, wrapped in leather of course.

Really liked this - super fun & hilarious moments too. Artwork was amazing, and storyline too. I am not in a bdsm relationship personally but I think anyone can relate to having a secret desire and the vulnerability it takes to share it, especially when things are new with a partner. The overthinking and analyzing of outfits/if they should we make this "more" is also relatable. Made me interested in reading others in series, as well as others by the author. Thanks for the opportunity NetGalley and the publisher. The only comment I had was how the format was difficult to read on my phone since it didn't go to the app.

Sunstone has always been a standout from its early days on DeviantArt, and revisiting it still feels special. The sapphic BDSM themes are handled with care and emotional depth, and the storytelling remains engaging and character-driven rather than purely sensational.
The artwork is as striking as ever, with expressive visuals that elevate both the intimacy and the humor of the story. It’s clear why this series built such a devoted following. Returning to it feels like reconnecting with something genuinely heartfelt and thoughtfully crafted.
I’m especially excited to see where future volumes go—this world and its characters still have plenty of room to grow, and it’s a story I’m always happy to revisit.
This is such a wonderful depiction of bdsm relationships, not only between the two main characters but also the supporting cast. It openly discusses the nuance of a kink relationship and the logistical measures involved, from physical safety to aftercare. The art style is gorgeous and very enchanting, I've been a long time fan of Stjepan Sejic's work, so it was really good to see the addition of the bonus content at the end of this volume.
Thank you NetGalley and Stjepan for access to Sunstone Volume 1.
I have to admit that when I saw this while browsing titles to request, I didn’t walk, I RAN to request it. And my excitement upon approval knew no bounds.
I am a long time fan and used to wait for the instalments of Sunstone on DeviantArt ten plus years ago. Then life happened and I fell out of touch with art aspect of my life and DA and forgot about this delight.
It is as beautifully illustrated as I remember and the characters and the romance as sweet and wonderful as I recall. What I love about this is how human and confident and insecure and sweet and real Lisa and Ally are.
If you like sapphic romance, BDSM elements, humour, and beautiful art, this is for you. Honestly even if you don’t like BDSM and a queer romance, you might find you still love this.
Excuse me while I go and go and buy the hardcover volumes now.

Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC!
I wasn't sure quite what I was expecting from Sunstone, but I definitely assumed there would be some stereotypes that would make me roll my eyes. Instead I fell in love with Šejic's art style and the characters of Ally and Lisa. The way BDSM and the domme/sub dynamic is portrayed is both respectful and realistic.
The book was very steamy, but what I found myself focusing on was the sweetness of Ally and Lisa's friendship. Watching them meet in person and slowly start to fall for each other just made me smile.
I'll definitely be adding this whole series to my bookshelf!
I love, love, loved Sunstone Vol 1! As a kinky person, it can be hard to find good rep that's still fun and spicy. I read the old edition of Sunstone a few years ago and also loved it. Honestly, I'm just excited to read more of the new editions of this series! It's such an underrated graphic novel, and it's nice to see a sapphic BDSM relationship instead of the expected Straight male Dom and straight female Submissive. I also liked the art style, whilst it was simple in place, I felt it elevated the panels and made them feel more dynamic. Overall, there was a beautiful emotion and sweetness between the two characters, and even with the erotica backdrop, the characters felt well fleshed out and living, breathing things.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review.

As a fellow kinkster, I'm always prepared to be severely disappointed by BDSM representation in media--(I'm looking at you "Babygirl" and "50 Shades"--but this was SO. GOOD. I think what I appreciate most is that the book spends equally as much time exploring Ally and Lisa's friendship and navigating their feelings towards one another as it does with their sub/domme relationship. It never feels like it's pandering or fetish-y despite it being an erotic graphic novel exploring kinks. Oh, and did I mention that the art is GORGEOUS?
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Image Comics for this ARC. I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for the second volume.

Great Comic about more taboo topics, loved it! Will definitely buy the physical copy and the next volumes as well!

I still vividly remember the first time I stumbled upon Sunstone on deviantArt as a repressed 19 year old with "vanilla" sensibilities. It awakened me to the diversity of sexuality, and I don't think there could have been a better piece of media to introduce me to BDSM.
A decade later, I find myself appreciating how lovingly and responsibly handled the fetishes in Sunstone are depicted. There's discussion of safewords, aftercare, the switching between BDSM roles and your "regular" self. While I've only tangentially tried the lifestyle, it does comes across as genuine to me. Sejic's enthusiasm for it is also delightfully catching (that description of latex--wow!). It's a funny, sweet sapphic love letter to BDSM and kink with two well-written female leads, and from what I remember, it only gets better from here.
Sejic's art is gorgeous, evocative, and sensual without being completely explicit. He knows when to fade to black without leaving readers feeling frustrated. There are also interesting uses of double-paged spreads on page 10-11 and 28-29 that I adored, but my favorite piece of beautifully composed imagery has got to be on page 77. That single image of Ally and Lisa simply holding each other in bed made me Feel All the Things. And that's what I read comics for. Producing powerful emotions in a reader through a single static image and a few words...yeah, that's magic.
The extra illustrations and author's note in the back of the book are interesting, too. It's amazing how far this little comic has come.
