Description

Someone is always watching you.
You just don’t know when it started.

Malcom has perfected the art of observation.
As a homeowner, host, and meticulous collector of private moments, he believes control comes from seeing without ever being seen. Every room is curated. Every guest is logged. Every detail is accounted for.

At least, that’s what he tells himself.

As strangers pass through his home, each believing they are safe, anonymous, unremarkable, small fractures begin to form. A woman who notices too much. A guest who lingers. A brother who won’t let go. What starts as quiet surveillance slips into obsession, entitlement, and harm.

When outside systems finally take notice (platforms, procedures, authority), Malcom doesn’t panic.
He adapts.

Because the most dangerous people aren’t the ones who hide.
They’re the ones who invite you in.

As a Courtesy… is a psychological horror chapbook about voyeurism, power, and the illusion of privacy in a world built on access and permission. Told with chilling restraint, it explores what happens when politeness becomes camouflage and being watched becomes a courtesy.

Perfect for readers who enjoy dark psychological fiction, unsettling modern horror, and stories that linger long after the final page.

I really enjoyed this. Curiosity has always killed the cat as they say. Jumping into this book I was very excited to learn what other people do in the “privacy of their own space”. I do wish it was longer and there were more guests that stayed at the AirBNB. Now everytime I travel I will have to pay more attention to the mirrors. Definitely add this to your TBR for March 3rd 2026!

you know when you step into a read. and in the end you think gosh that was good. and then someone is going to us you why. well, thats where i am. and i want to be really annoying and say "because it was, okay!" this was one of those weird, unsettling but not, horror but not. one for the psychologically bending readers like me. they are like little sparkles in other reads that make your mind think and bend and think a little differently.
we are bought to Malcolm and his home. his home which he rents out. but ermm, he watches his guest secretly. (yeh, you see why it didn't feel easy to put my review down lol) its his way of control or so he says. but can someone that does something so disturbing ever stop there. or will things begin to trickle, split, become something more? yes is that answer to that. because if ia man is willing to do this, there is going to be more.
this did make me think how i will be looking into every room i ever visit again. and how easy these things would, are to do. it makes you uneasy but in a really prickly way.it makes you feel like something bad is happening but in a really clever subtle way. its not aaaargh run room the room. but it is turn the light on so you can see the corner of the room whilst you go up to bed. but yeh, not too scary. it never goes too far. i think what makes these hit home harder is because they speak of human conditions, humans flaws. they aren't monsters. but the monsters really that can and do walk amongst us.
at the moment we often see the "you are being watched" as a whole set of people that we dont think we are. but i think we are secretly all never to far away from wondering. just how watchable are we. just how much do we fear what people are viewing of us and how. this book brings those little niggles all home to us and you think "ok, i kind of fear it and believe it a little sometimes too"
i dont think people who are about to rent should read this book quiet yet.
this was a gem of a read though. its only when i got to the end and had felt all the above, thought all the above that i though wow this author has written a brilliant book here! the atmosphere fills your whole space whilst you read it. and i love how immersed in this book i felt for every single minute i was in it.
