My Grandma the Chameleon is a brilliantly imaginative and tender picture book that uses a clever metaphor to explore a child’s changing relationship with an aging grandparent. When a young girl notices her once-vibrant grandmother starting to "blend into the background," she discovers that even if Grandma is becoming harder to see, her love remains as colorful as ever.

Why it’s a 5-Star standout:
Unique Metaphor: Maria Löfgren handles the delicate topic of aging and invisibility with incredible sensitivity. Transforming the grandmother into a chameleon is a "genius stroke" that makes a complex emotional concept accessible to the 4–8 age range.

Visual Storytelling: As both author and illustrator, Löfgren uses a stunning, high-contrast palette. The way Grandma literally fades into the wallpaper or the garden—only to be "found" again by her granddaughter—is visually captivating and emotionally resonant.

A Lesson in Empathy: The book encourages children to look closer and remain present for the elderly people in their lives, making it a perfect tool for families navigating life transitions or elder care.

Wonderful story that would be a perfect addition to all book collections. Ari is visiting her grandmother and searches her home to find her. She searches with her grandmother's pet ducks, Feather and Poseidon. There are also chameleons hiding on every page, which adds a fun element. The illustrations are vibrant and interesting and the story is fun and captivating.

Thank you Netgalley and Floris Books for allowing me to read this delightful book!

My son is 18 and autistic but mentally four - like I have often said, so I am always looking for new books to read to him -and now my six year old grandson is home - so it is an added bonus.

This book the grandbaby, Ari, is always looking for Grandma - and in each page she is hiding from Ari. It tells a story and then you have to search for Grandma and the missing chameleon on each page - think Where's Waldo.

Both my son and grandson loved the book!

Great story and great illustrations!

I loved how interactive this book was! I also loved that it includes the answers of where each chameleon was hiding at the end of the book, prompting you to reread it again and again. My favourite part of the book was when Grandma was hiding in the closet. All the different outfits from Grandma's jobs will make kids curious about which job each outfit goes with. I did however find the ducks in the story to be a bit random and was confused as to why they were there. Overall great story that will encourage kids to get engaged and interact with story books.

What a cute little search and find book! It's like "where's waldo" with grandma hiding in every page/room. The chameleon motif is sweet and the ending encourages the child to read the book again and look for the hidden chameleon. I enjoyed the story and the bright, lovely illustrations. The only thing I would change, is make the font of the story slightly bigger.
Overall, a great book for kids (and grandmas!)
