Description
Like Booksmart with a twist of David Sedaris and Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Wade & Felix Forever is a biting, Texas-sized satire of first love and first grift.
Seventeen-year-old Wade Mader dreams of running away to California with his best friend and secret crush, Felix. Stuck in a stuffy Texas suburb with his horrible aunt after the death of his parents, he and Felix prank their neighbors for content in hopes of becoming internet famous. When his school holds auditions for a controversial Peter Pan musical called Pansgender!, Wade sees a path to his L.A. dreams—until the musical gets banned. Seeking to fund another venue for the production, Wade scams conspiracy theorists over the existence of a gay Sasquatch, igniting social chaos that his aunt and her boyfriend exploit for their podcast.
Meanwhile, Wade finds a rival for Felix's affection in Roland, a homophobic classmate they targeted in a cruel prank. To save his future with Felix and end the paranormal frenzy, Wade must learn to put his antics aside and confront the thing that scares him the most: himself.
Advance Praise
"It’s definitely one of the funniest books I’ve read in a while, and it did a good job of satirizing some of the modern political tensions in the United States right now, especially the bizarre patriotism, fear mongering, and bigotry towards queer people... It made me feel so viscerally uncomfortable—I remember wanting to rip my own skin off, but I was just so fascinated with how uncomfortable it was I couldn’t stop reading." - Jamie, beta reader
"This is a big, ambitious, deeply funny, and emotionally serious novel. The prose crackles, the ensemble is rich, the satire is precise, and the emotional payoffs are earned. The tornado flashback alone is a remarkable piece of writing." - Alex, beta reader
