Description
Celeste King Conner tries to count her blessings-even when she forgets.
Told through essays and excerpts from her former newspaper column, Facebook posts, and other musings on daily life, Don't Let This Get Out in Pinckard is rooted in the stories Celeste King Conner grew up hearing and learned how to tell. She spent many a long afternoon listening to relatives talk, gossip, and remember, absorbing the rhythms of storytelling and an understanding that the trivial and the tremendous are often the same things. Conner lingers on small moments-conversations, routines, family rituals-while also addressing loss, faith, aging, and responsibility. Using humor to temper grief and sharpen affection, she reflects on her life as a daughter, granddaughter, mother, and caretaker, moving between the distant past and the present to reveal the complexity of ordinary lives, the importance of honoring what is passed down, and most importantly, finding joy, even when it doesn't want to be found.

"Don't Let This Get Out in Pinckard" is a collection of essays written by Celeste King Conner, a writer who reflects deeply on her relationships and experiences as a Southern woman. While I don't think that I am the target audience for this book, I can absolutely praise Conner's voice. Her ability to explore ordinary moments often made me feel as though I were in on the inner workings of her life (or living alongside her in her town).
Her story of publishing this book is especially unique: from Facebook posts to a blog, to the local paper, and now this collection! As someone from the South that left, I can now make peace with the idea of not returning because I can live vicariously through her experiences!
Anyone who enjoys thoughtful breakdowns of everyday life, especially from the perspective of a Southern woman who has lived in the same town since birth, would likely adore this collection!
