Description
You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…
Bets Fowler has always been perfectly fine living her life firmly within the borders of her tiny village. But when her ex, Jack, returns and is suddenly everywhere she goes, she realises just how small the parameters of her existence have become, and starts to step outside her comfort zone.
Jack Ashcroft has always sought out a bigger life than he thought Wilsgrave could afford, but when a knockback sends him home, and back into Bets’ orbit, he comes to see that the world he once inhabited has a lot more to offer than he ever realised, and that leaving might have been the biggest mistake he ever made.
Now, as Bets and Jack find themselves thrown together at every turn, the exes see what was and what could be in an entirely new light…

Oh my a great read..A perfect couple break up and the village is on her side . A lovely love story and about growing up and facing your fears and trying some thing new . Could not put it down. Learned things about filming . A perfect holiday read. You will love it.
I knew I would and absolutely loved this book. It was achingly romantic and had me wrapped up in a bubble of happiness in no time. That said, Julie Caplin always writes such gorgeous characters and weaves romance like a golden thread.
Bets Fowler was a terrific protagonist. She was one of life’s joy givers. Simply walking into a room made everyone happy and want to be around her. I was immediately reminded of Nicola Coughlan and kept her image in my mind as I followed the story. I desperately wanted to remove her self-doubt and tell her how amazing she was, but even if that was possible, I doubt she would have listened.
It took me a while to warm to Jack, but ultimately, I saw the good in him and understood why Bets had loved him so fiercely. Yes, he was capable of awful self-centredness, but he did genuinely love Bets, and that goes a long way. Still, he’d been an idiot.
I loved the journey Julie Caplin took Bets on. It was heartwarming to see her finally receive the recognition she deserved and to feel valued as more than just an undeserving girlfriend. No spoilers from me, but I wholeheartedly encourage you to read this gorgeously uplifting novel about second chances and living one’s very best life. I totally loved it, but that wasn’t a surprise; did I mention how fabulous Julie Caplin’s books are?

Julieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! this book. this author. just wow. i love this book so much. i knew i would because hey, its Julie. Julie is a favourite author of mine. and her books make my heart sing each and every time. this book was another instalment in a wider series. i couldn't wait to get stuck in. i have to be careful here though as right now im sat remember Julie's last one. i could very much go back and be with the Rebelo family once again. and tell everyone about that once again. so to go onto another of Julie's books felt like the best treat. my book readers soul is full of Julies wonderful talent. what could be better.
a country escape bought another wonderful read.
Bets had me rooting for her from the get- go. shes been through it but is trying her best to find a life and heal her heart. Jack is never gone from her thoughts and heart though. but then who walks back into the village and her life. yup, Jack. great talk about trying to rebuild your life and have something put it at risk again!
Bets really tries to choose herself in this book. seeing her do that little by little felt so true to her and what she needed. we know she has the best heart already. she cares for others so much and so well and you can tell shes one of those people that is there for other whenever they might need her.
Jack being back feels uncertain and shes not sure she can put her life and heart at risk again.
Jack left WIlsgrave to do his own thing. to do his own studies away from home. this made him distant in both self and location. eventually then things between them ended. she wanted to stay. he wanted to stay away.
Bets eart completely broke. the villagers of course come to her aid. and they do so in their own village folk manner. but Bets becomes worried how much Jack is tied to her life and future. his family is part of her life and home and work. what if she loses more than just the man she loves?
Jack in his own way had his gaurds up. he knew, or thought what he knew he wanted his life to go like. so now being back is oth confronting and confusing. hurting Bets is truly the last thing he would want to do.back in his hometown he really did seem to move forward and grow. he sees what matters. he sees who matters.
i loved seeing more of Bets and her job. i felt like i walking into the practice, being amongst the animals and meeting the locals. and boy did i want to meet them all. even those nosy and pushy in the best kind ways(mostly.)
i didn't know how i would feel about Jack at first. i didn't like him leaving like that. but his journey was also handled with really movement and sincerity. you could feel the change, the thought and the goodness that we know Bets loved him for after all..
another wonderful book that i just wanted to crawl right into and stay there. can someone please adopt me into this village pronto?
Julie a favourite author of mine. each and every one of her books shows me why. and this one is more than enough reason to be reminded of that. her books bring me joy, make me smile, and made life and our current world just that bit more manageable. escaping into the worlds she creates feels like a comfort and balm for any book readers soul.so much so i never want to leave.
my smile was wide when i saw Julie had another book. it only grew upon reading.
