Description

Emaleen (Andersan) Barsan is an 11 year old girl, who has been adopted by her aunt and uncle. Every day, her Aunt Zeraida mysteriously asks Emaleen whether anything unusual has happened. Shortly before the end of the school year, Emaleen starts to discover why her aunt has been asking her this question. Emaleen learns that she has certain abilities to make extraordinary things happen with her mind. She also learns that her powers put her in great danger. In order to secure her safety, Emaleen must train her abilities and face and defeat the danger. Along her journey towards the challenge that she must face, Emaleen discovers she has many people who love her, and who are there to assist and protect her. The Peerless Seer is the first book in "The Emaleen Andarsan Series."Woven into the story are various life lessons such as the value of a good education, doing one's best work, the value of being able to research and teach oneself, the importance of choosing friends carefully, the importance of focusing and of keeping calm and refraining from acting without thinking and other lessons. The story also includes concepts in mindfulness, including a basic understanding of the amydala and prefrontal cortex's role in making good decisions and acting with control and wisely. The Peerless Seer was authored to target a 10+ age group, but to also appeal to older children and adults. Additional lessons are planned in future books in the series, such as the difference between hearing and really listening to others, and being able to reflect back understanding and empathy.
