Description

The more things change . . .

After Civil War II, America is unrecognizably fractured and scorched. In the desolate wasteland of Nevada, the law is simple: kill or be killed. And the desert bows to only one—Dante, the Angel of Death—a merciless gun-for-hire. At age twenty and with Empiripacks in his veins, his learned language is violence, and he is convinced he has no equal.

Until a brutal clash with his brother, Lucas, sends Dante spiraling.

. . . the more they stay the same.

Emotionally shattered and feeling the tug of rationality, Dante immerses himself in the writings and teachings of the past. He chooses to quiet the chaos that he helped unleash, answering to reason rather than rage. But the blood that once covered his hands is difficult to wash away. He returns with a new creed and a new name—the Archangel.

Logic, integrity, and justice prove impossible to reestablish as the same battles repeat. With Lucas destroying every gain Dante makes, he knows a deadly confrontation between brothers is inevitable. But in his quest for a better world, will the Archangel finally find his soul or lose it forever?

Advance Praise

“Dystopian sci-fi meets high adventure in The Archangel, a story that opens in 2075 Nevada with a bang as a contract killer washes off the evidence of his latest successful hit and reflects on the finer art of being a professional hitman…this raw beginning builds an instant connection with readers as events involve warlords, violence, and the efforts of this futuristic assassin to survive his world. “Bobby Lopez injects moral and ethical conundrums into his character’s life early in the story. This gives The Archangel a powerful flavor of philosophical and moral possibility that will resonate with many, making the antihero more than just a killer running on automatic: “The result is more than another dystopian story of vying groups, but a documentation of individual accountability and struggle. The Archangel pulls no punches in its revelations and arguments, which keep on hitting hard right to the end.”

—D. Donovan, Sr. Book Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

“This is an unusual book because, on the surface, it’s a very bloody tale of two brothers at war with each other. Beneath that, however, it’s also a highly intellectual tale of the ethics of killing and why it may or may not be justified… For those readers who enjoy a no-holds-barred shoot-’emup where everyone is bad to the bone, even the good guys, The Archangel is a first-rate tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Similarly, readers who like a deep dive into the mind of a killer, whether he or she is a vigilante or a psychopath, will also find this book has lots to offer.”

—Scott Cahan, Readers’ Favorite

“Lopez grounds Dante’s journey in philosophy, drawing on thinkers such as Plato, Sartre, and Camus. Rather than treating these ideas as mere decorative background, he shows how they shape policy, justice, violence, and governance in real time. Questions about power, accountability, freedom, and when violence becomes justified emerge naturally through conflict and decision-making rather than exposition…The author balances these ideas with steady, often brutal action…He stages conversations among characters that confront topics such as capitalism, bodily autonomy, and authority without imposing simple answers or one-sided conclusions.”

The Archangel by Bobby Lopez
This book hits hard. 🔥
Set in a brutal, fractured America, The Archangel throws you straight into a savage, lawless world where survival comes at a cost—and mercy doesn’t exist.
Dante is an intense protagonist—ruthless, broken, and completely shaped by violence. Watching his transformation from the feared “Angel of Death” into something more… reflective, almost human, was one of the strongest parts of this story. But don’t expect an easy redemption arc—this is gritty, raw, and full of internal conflict.
The dynamic between Dante and his brother Lucas? Absolutely explosive. ⚔️
It adds a deep emotional core beneath all the chaos, making every confrontation feel personal and inevitable.
There’s a strong philosophical edge running through the story too—questions of morality, identity, and whether someone truly can escape their past. It gives the book more depth than your typical dystopian action read.
🖤 Overall: Dark, violent, and thought-provoking. A powerful story of transformation, brotherhood, and the fight between reason and rage.
